the board of supervisors president david chiu (clapping.) good afternoon san francisco it is my honor to welcome you to our northeast neighborhood and because none of my colleagues are here yet i want to welcome you to the best city and county of san francisco right here and thank you for being here for another amazing chapter of the city and county of san francisco we bring millions of people around the world to those neighbors, in fact, it's our city that brought a young man from seattle mayor ed lee with who became our mayor a woman from washington, d.c. president of our port commission it brought another young man, if missouri our vice president mr. alzheimer's and when i was 22 i

came to those neighbors and like you all we envelope in love with our waterfront i'll actual 6 years ago when i ran for office i had hundreds of constituents many of r whom are here saying what is the city going to do to fix up our piers our piers were pa fatally into the sea we had had pier 35 and the neighborhood associations came together with w working with the develops developers and the city staff and the board of supervisors we brought the best science perfume museum on the west coast piers 17 chp we brought the best sailing race last year with the america's cup and used that to make sure we move forward legislation and a

hundred million dollars of investment to build the best cruise ship term on the west coast we're seeing today we need to establish the grand entrances from the world we have san francisco airport when the folks get off the plane that's their view into the port and not only just so a green this we're going to be hanging out with our families and kids and let me take a moment to thank all the folks can we give it up for the men and women of labor that helped to build it this building (clapping) and, of course, the men and women of you l y u to make sure we're bringing in millions of san franciscans thank you. i l

this time we have asked her one it so leap of faith the port envisions a new terminal but now we've done is a team effort but today marks the culmination of effort to build a new term and no one would expect that today we'd have a state of the art friendly and absolutely beautiful building with over 5 acres of parks and public access along the waterfront here on top of that mayor ed lee mentioned some of the sustain building features i won't go into all of them by the with you have gray water that will fuel or provide the water into our toilets our beautiful park we're harvesting that on the roof and if you're unable to see it from above you'll see the

functioning of the water collection it's low energy we have all sorts of sustainable features go to our website it is built for standards and has daylight savings time and bird resilience material on the windows so bifrdz won't eastbound hurt i don't want to give a list of facts i'll direct you to the program but suffice it to say it is xooerd what has been accomplished we're finalizing what's been done and we've worked tirelessly many, many people have helped to make today possibly and certainly enough time to thank you all it's not there ensue the staff and a

are here but when he when we stand on the holy ground remember 1934 you wouldn't know that 80 years later the longshoreman the police and the national guard we were frooith to try to start a union for the wagd it's about process there is is a struggle moving forward and the same people that were fighting we're all here together that's what san francisco does we get beyond our differences and in 2006 mayor newsom had a vision put a blue ribbon commission together he said i don't want support anyone can

pat you on the back i want commitment it means action and today that commission was formed in 2006 and we made the representations to the mayor and the board and we didn't know how to pay for it but put the recommendations forward and director moyer along with the lady from the city should say has the guts of a gunslinger let me tell you (clapping) the reason why we move forward is like our present mayor, mayor ed lee has said on many occasions the future belongs to the city and for the city this size we might be the waerment weight of our size but we believe in this city when i think about james herman he was

a working-class guy but this represents all the workers in san francisco we decide has a as a commission frankly, i didn't lee and joe and others on the commission redd map turn man, bruce, john martin and steven one thing we agree san francisco is a world-class city the world looks at to us we're the standard from which every other city raise the bar we've raised the bar in san francisco the average age in san francisco is 27 years old we have a repeals as an in the city this city

(clapping.) >> here in this beautiful city son one side we have telegraph hill and on the other side the bay we're weaving together the present and future we delivered the state of the art working cruise terminal as you've heard on time and on budget and created a wonderful new park where visitors and residents can watch the cruise ships sail and come back and also enjoy our waterfront all year round this is a project that we can all be proud of it's going to booster important

hospitality industry going forward and building it with san francisco is a great achievement that is being one of mayor ed lee's corner stone to provide the local jobs we've not only create those jobs but exceeded our goals for local businesses and local hiring a few people utilizing i'd like to recognition our city architect mr. lopez and city engineer two project managers cindy and oscar who worked everyday to make sure our project was here and delivered on time and many of our construction managers and landscape designs contractor

administrators and staff from our materials testing lab all part of the organization part of this project in bringing this beautiful building here and a special thanks to calvin did care sing from turner construction we worked colonel's with them on many projects but this one was a very, very excited one you'll hear from him in a minute when i'm done speaking but most importantly the strong partnership moonl i know under the mayors leadership i worked in the city for many, many years but under east side leadership the puc and mta, planning and others all of us working together to make this city the beautiful city and the city that works so it is a great
