1:34 pm
people that spoke before me came after me. >> were i here to speak about - beyond the scope i don't have one more middle school. >> i'm mating i didn't i submitted the card. >> okay. we're going to look for this you can start thanks i understand i'm sorry we can call you next we're looking for your card right now. >> hi, i'm mary ami i've been a resident of san francisco since 1989 before the earthquake my children went to aloha middle school and then gateway and lowell high school i'm here to
1:35 pm
encourage you to settle with the teachers union and the united educators of san francisco and to increase the salary scale i fell in love with san francisco in 89 and quickly learned i could drive 20 minutes south and earn $20,000 more i will or want to pass out a copy of your salary scale and yourselves and have you see that you can easily see there's a couple of things to fix frail you go up to 6 units my district we go up to 75 units and secondly, i want to encourage the idea when our spending school fund your spending closely to the classroom and that's the school teacher great
1:36 pm
positive teachers will take care of the students like you said you rejected this charter because i think things are happening they or are when teachers feel respected and well paid this is an expensive city to live in to be able to do that i have to drive thirty minutes away i'm saddened this year i have a new physics teacher she's a 14 year veteran from washington high school she said it was the reason she left was the school district sadly she makes more money at the school district i ask you to settle and take a look at the salary
1:37 pm
schedule. >> ma'am, if you want to speak go to the podium you have to minutes. >> i'm going to do my best. >> to president fewer and the commissioner of the body of education i'm here i'm very upset i've been upset but done my best to maintain? any granddaughter arena who is not enrolled in school because you have sent me a denial letter for every middle school there say, i can't understand how can this be not only that we have been to the charter schools to creativity arts we've tried there from 2013 we didn't just
1:38 pm
start she graduate from elementary in may therefore we started in 2013 applying for middle schools and we've gotten september 23, 2014, letter after denial letter after denial letter out of $8 million she doesn't apply or qualify for missouri any of them you say the chapters are under the unified school district and i'm sore that the person from gateway and the lady they've denied us i've left preliminary hearings to superintendent carranza this is a native san franciscan she went to mckinley that's where she graduated from any was understanding the woman that we're talking about bumming she was bullied at the mckennel
1:39 pm
we promised her, she won't have to go to the middle schools so we started in 2013 applying for mifldz how can she be denied from every middle school how could that be and then get a letter telling her she can be accepted in visitacion valley which is no where in our district some children mature faster than than others mentally ariana is not like that she's a child and thinks as a child i'm not going to let her go through the city of san francisco over an hour that was on a street i don't know where this is and so many parents from sdidz 94110 and 117
1:40 pm
and 118 was given the same letter to go to visitacion valley why i understand this commission to say those schools are our choice i guess dr. ackerman said that should have been changed because that's wrong a child is not able to go to a school in their own strict e district so the child in the district is pushed out and can't go to 1, 2, 3 hours away that's ridiculous i couldn't understand why superintendent carranza doesn't answer any many, many messages i left with his secretary as of september 17th my granddaughter has been out of the school one month i talked to the defks they
1:41 pm
said have the truant officers come to get my granddaughter i said not yet i wonder why she didn't have a school to go to. >> okay. thank you it up for coming and advocating for your granddaughter mr. steel is he in the room he'll he'll return i'm going to have him take down our information. >> no disrespect president fewer do you know how many times we've been down here and over 7 times. >> i know your federal regulation and no disrespect but darlene who is the head of of our placement center is going to have a conversation with you.
1:42 pm
>> thank you very much i believe that two names have been also we've called our two names i'm sorry merriam and don please come forward you 20 have two minutes. >> aim marian i started an initiative with my colleagues called engagement for public schools we want to tell you about what we're doing but a particular activity engaged ♪ the engrossment fair for those of you who don't know we've interviewed a lot of people in the room and spoken that about public engagement for public schools is a process not a new organization that is designed to build public support for public schools among a board basis in the san francisco population we're not a reform effort and not a new organization kind of a
1:43 pm
dialog it's leading to aforementioned we right started with one hundred interviews and did those informal and we left hand to what people said when we said what did you think we could do a a city as a population to better support our school system people said that's a green great question go out and talk to the people we can't talk to the people that don't show up at our doorstep we interviewed about we had a dialog process with thirty groups thought the city in all 11 stroirl district those were people from adams 12 to 90 they said we would love to support our public schools better we think we'll support
1:44 pm
equitable funding a pr campaign and stronger school and neighborhood skeksz so our schools are not strange islands in our community so for the last several months we've been pondering and working hard to make that happen and my colleague donna is going to talk about one of the ideas >> i'm dawn also we're working on a larger process about the 3 goals but one thing that's immediate that come out of our dialog process was just creating a showing of the enforcement fair of the public of the people not directly recommended to our schools as the rest of san francisco the san franciscans that don't have kids we'll be at
1:45 pm
the enrollment fair and creating a pop up launch where fair gorlgz goers can come we've got to large poster that says stay calm and working with institutions to help post the allegiance we're looking forward to showing fair gorgeous that san franciscan that have no relationship to schools which like i said is the majority are cheering them on to go public so that's the school fair we'll have updates on other things but say hi again and let you know what we're doing. >> thank you for publishing that and now we have let see
1:46 pm

1:47 pm
florence she lost my phone number one time and i mean for me to call the mayor's office as a parent i don't think my phone number should be lost and the lottery well, there's no space for my child i said to my child don't quit i'm doing to today, i know that a child right now that lives in san bruno that's attending a school and i'm told there other children in the school that are you're going their grand parents address in chinatown that's i see we are all telling us to support the public school system i live in a dump i had a problem with my school system but i want my children to have the opportunity
1:48 pm

1:50 pm
in the not true we have the facts to back up the union tried to reach out to the leadership in h.r. but they refused to act in grandfathering gather i'm currently unemployed for some reason i'm the first people that had to wait for a month to the transferred from the district to the city i'm a sdoorld vet that served his country with honor i fought to have a job i placed by the rules and now i'm asking for my job to be given back to me, i'm asking that h.r. management start working with the my own this is on fair. >> thank you. (clapping.) >> good evening, commissioners president fewer and
1:51 pm
superintendent carranza my name is yvonne and i'm the president of the local i'm here on behalf of the my members vernon has been a good employee that worked for a number of years for the san francisco unified school district does not have a blemish in his evaluations he's placed by the rules he was simply told he was going to be laid off because he didn't fit in the restructuring of the plan for human resources given to him lift ev'ry voice and sing by his director in human resources you see when the restructuring was coming about she should have invited the union so if this situation was a coup we could have worked with her to make sure our member was going to be place somewhere not 40 to be kicked out of the strict and set
1:52 pm
on the curve this is a veteran we have enough veterans outs otsz on the street nothing but their hands out it is only fair to be restated into the skfth giving given his job back until we're finished going through the grievance process we're at step two not even a chance to finish with the grievance step this is a shame an outrage and i'm appalled we're all appalled the district has done a number of wrong things to our members it's high times we do the right thing to do we want to have a good working relationship with the human resources director listen to what we're saying and help us to help our members don't just kick us out on the curve we've
1:53 pm
worked so long without us you couldn't run the school district none none of this would be going on our members are behind the lines you running the rooms with the lights on and if we leave you guys are in the dark listen to what we say and run state vernon back and wait until he gets a job in the city and go on would the process. >> i'm not sure i can follow that let me try the broader prospective so as yvonne mentioned we've been grateful to have a less function relationship since the new director took office that's been
1:54 pm
helpful because there's a lot of things to work together we like working together rather than being angry i hate being angry so we were hopeful that we would experience the same thing with the chief of human resources there's other changes in the human resources that has been positive but this is an unworkable wanting we can't endorse the civil serve rules our member has rights he was kicked out of the district without a position in the city the district doesn't file his paperwork with the other districts going to work with him it's unfair to him and easy to fix his work is still there in the human resources department would no one to do that let him continue with his work 88 guidance is part of his
1:55 pm
portfolio and the management of the human resources management is important and something or something that's not being done because our member is at home not working so, please let him get back to work human resources is too important to leave undone. >> president fewer and board of education and superintendent carranza and ladies and gentlemen, i'm the union representative of s steel 1021 in san francisco school district i hate to get angry that's what my brother said but i'm getting angry the way the new human resources director treat us at the confer process and the city has not responded to the unions
1:56 pm
request for continuance negotiations she if listen to our advise in the rules and she even gave us not good signal in terms of norwalk with his in good faith this is not the beginning of a pro traffic fight with the district if you remember during the and/or 1021 has filed cases over cases because the human resources at that time was craving hostilities with the union this is the beginning of our demonstration to showing show that 1021 is not going to tolerate those practices we just want her to consider the civil service rules and bumming her out of her position she said
1:57 pm
she's doing the job so she can get out from under the district for her to not consider to bump the people that are not permanent civil service is not good for our relationship we are not going to just sit back and listen to what she going to say we're going to be 5th back i was the driving from our local union and you know we're going we're not going to stay away. >> thank you. next speaker, please mr. solomon. >> i have a question before i start, i put two subjects on my card
1:58 pm
yes. i can speak on both of them i'm sorry ms. solomon i got the card after we spoke about. >> this was any intention. >> you can speak about in general but not specifically about the two items we voted on today so feel free. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> good evening, commissioners susan solomon unit workers of san francisco i'm up here speaking in support of mr. passion, prejudice i don't think we've worked with him often he's one of the point people important reasonable accumulation he's put reasonable in the reasonable consumptions he's caring and kind and realistic so he doesn't stripping our members along if they can't get their
1:59 pm
accommodations he's helpful we're saddened he's been let go he's a valuable employee as for the other matter i wanted to speak to in light of the fact we're in negotiations right now and chapter school the students of chapter school employees have been award a benefit that our members have been denied that's the preference for enrolling their students their own children in their schools we'll be amending our demands at the bargaining table thank you thank you (clapping.) okay. so i have a list of other people that signed up to speak.
2:00 pm
(calling names) so sorry i can't read our last name come on up and press the bum and identify yourselves. >> i'm lisa i'm a mother of a sixth grader at heros as man it has handled several very difficult situations around the death and suspect of murder of two children in our school our vice principal was taken is a harsh word but charged with a different responsibility days before our school started he's gone and we wish him well, we want him to serve the district in a different way but i'm here because we're talking about something imitate the l
