know that tdr 62 teaching positions and 60 paraprofessional jobs unfilled in the district there are kids 20 to thirty depending on the grade level sitting there without a teacher in our case the spartan arts teacher, however, the district has also placed 2 hundred highly qualified teachers into teaching our special assignment positions that keeps them out of the classroom it is true that san francisco is an extraordinarily expensive place to live but 60 but 62 minus 2 hundred that's a leadership human resources issue not a pipeline issue if you don't have enough teachers in

man, i want to talk about the lack of a spanish teacher many people within the sdrirth they're saying their filling the position this is wonderful i can only hope the replacement will be of the same high caliber of the teacher hired we not got answers to qualification why not processes in june when hired who was responsible for mr. prayer not getting his transfer and why was the district not able to resolve the problem what processes are being put in place to share this process didn't happen none of the questions have been answered if it's true

there's a general lack of spanish teachers the h.r. department d department shall have done everything to make sure the teacher was able to come to work when the school year started the parents need to know how the district will share this will not happen again and our lack of 0 sixth grade spanish teacher we think the district should be working on filling the open teacher positions and leaving the classroom teachers and attempting to rouse grace size as opposed to putting the teachers on special assignment they need to look at the hiring for accountability in putting children first thank you. >> >> thank you. next speaker, please. >> hi, i'm karen i'm the mother

of two girls at buena vista horace man one in sixth and one in 7th grade they went to the school for the spanish program now any 78th grader has here spanish development with a substitute teacher and my sixth grade teacher has the spanish development with the substitute teacher who's spanish is at a lower level daily asked her what happened in school today and very little instruction is going on last week they watched school of rock and the other day they planned a birthday party in the nearly two hours of her day everyday we're going into our

sixth week of school this is disappointing i know that our principle went and requested we have one of those teachers on special assignment come and fill the position and that was asked to use one of our paraprofessionals i believe to help fill the position and they the kids are being served by those other teachers are really borderline we can't take resources away from the children so tsas sound wonderful and great i think all of our teachers deserve the coaching, however, it isizing on the cake when i don't have a teacher in the classroom that's is what comes first, i encourage you all to really work on getting all of those open positions in the district filled thank you.
