come in and celebrate this great opening of the home. my name is greg young and i would like to welcome you to the hall at 1028 market street. the hall is an use project to activate the site prior to the redevelopment of the mixed used housing and the retail project. our team is currently pursuing the entitlements for 186 rental housing units and ground floor retail, and as part of that journey, we believe that by breathing life back into this building, we can help to promote the community engagement and inspire more people to visit the purpose of the hall is to activate this stretch of market street and the foods to bring the people together and enrich our neighborhoods through community, building and culture creation. it is a collection of six local food entrepreneurs each with
8:40 am
its own offering inspired by the ingredients that is a great deal of time meeting the stake holders in the community and learning about the underlying dynamics of the neighborhood. we are acutely aware of both the opportunities and the challenges of this stretch of market street and this project is carefully considered, and it is a reflection of our genuine belief and the potential of the neighborhood. and we could not be more excited about the event and it is apparent that the hallmark of our approach to be engaged in the communities in which we operate. i would like to thank our team and that helps to make this vision a reality, and without you all, we would be not here today so thank you all so much >> with that i would like to pass it over to my partner who will discussion, and which is closer in our broader vision. >> good morning. >> thanks to everybody for
8:41 am
coming out today and all of us when we think about the urban development and trying to make positive changes in the community, one of the most things that we can do is to get the people to come to the neighborhood but also to support the people that were here and how can we support the golden gate theater and it is not about go to a show but how do i get the great date and it is a dinner and a show. and, and twitter, and we were and so many, and you know, bold, ceos and companies that decided to move to this area as well. but we felt that it is a lacking and how can we help out with those and both of those team mate and employees so that they also think about what am i going to do in the morning when i come? am i going to go to the building and get my coffee there? and we hope that the hall represents a place that is powerful and it is interesting and has a selection of drinks and party and community and that the people will come out
8:42 am
and walk down the street and make a difference with that too. and so, and i think that the most important thing that i want to do is thank the mayor and the planning department and the city of of san francisco because it is really is a public, private partnership and from greg and my perspective we just want to say to ed and mayor lee is let us know how we can help, let the private sector let us now how to help. and what else can we do? and thank you. >> well, scott and craig, welcome to mid market san francisco. we have got new partners to work with. that is wonderful. >> well, first of all, everybody, go giants. and that is the spirit, that we celebrate today. and i don't have to repeat to you that market street has been my focus since day one since i became mayor and i used to sweep these streets a lot and i
8:43 am
knew this construction board here and would not last, and we have an imagination that occurs in our city and this imagination has come right here to mid market and i want to say, again, my presence here is really the thank craig and scott for their wonderful vision here and i know that they are going to talk about the housing units that i consider invaluable to our city's housing stock that will be built here. and what from now, it is all about great food, and it is about music and we have a grand piano here and it is about blending in and assisting with the enlifening of market street, and this is what this center does for all of us and i am excited and i am excited that they are investing in the mid market and they believe that this will be part of the ongoing transformation, that randy shaw wants to see happen in the tender loin and that i want to see with supervisor kim happening in the south of market that we all came together here with so many
8:44 am
incredible art institutions and you see across the street with the free space and with the art museum here, and with the number of small businesses that are located here, and more and more as the time has gone on. and the risk of their investment has been reduced, and they literally see and feel what i knew all along that the history of market street is in front of us and it is about to relifen it and we have the un activated every friday and we have the show dogs and the machine coffee here that already start and they are making a great impression on not only the residents here, but they are drawing people already and this is yet another great draw and we have the great investers and they are all rebuilding on the ends of these blocks and mind us, and not only building, but they are also utilizing the programs that we have to ininvolve the local neighborhoods and be great neighbors to be involved
8:45 am
neighbor and to be engaged with us. this is going to be a lot of stories about this establishment and while we say that it is temporary, gosh, there is nothing, temporary looking about this and actually it looks like exciting to be here and almost like it is already belong that we are just kind of unraveling this present, for the rest of market street to enjoy, and this is literally like a present, and so, i am here to say, thank you, and to also know that myself, and anita when she gets better will be down here eating. and i invite the friends to be here and enjoy the food, and establishment, but also, get a sense that this is part of what we always said market street was all about and it is really just taking the coverings off and exposing what we have already felt that this is going to be a strong neighborhood on the rebound, and during these days, i think with scott and
8:46 am
craig's investment and we are going to have the great partners to engage us and all of the things that we want the great neighbors to do and not only have the successful accomplish. s invite the people here day and night and by the way i told craig from the start that i love these lights at night because mid market street should also be about the great night life in san francisco, and market street, was and was our great night life in san francisco, and let's bring that back. >> yeah. >> let's bring that back with music, and with art and with the small businesses and neighborhood serving businesses, and all of the people that visit here, they are going to yes, they are going to find dates, and they are going to reinsight their relationships, and it should happen in the great city of san francisco, where their hearts are, so i want to say thank you to you, and of course we are going to help them with their incredible 186 units of housing that they are proposing and we are going to help them with the retail space, and make sure that they are here in the long term, and we are also going to
8:47 am
make sure that the businesses that they invited here will also be able to stay here in the mid market area and once they start, the people should have roots and they will have enough time to build the roots, and so we will work with craig and scott to build their presence here for a long, long time. and in fact, we are already inviting other people that have vacancies along market street saying how can we work with you to inlifen there and i want to thank, supervisor kim, i know that she is not here, this is the second in her district this week and we will probably have a third for them in the fifth because her district is the area where a lot of things are happening. and we want it to happen in the right way for the right reasons, and i want to thank all of you for chrisening, this ground breaking, and it is exciting to see the hall react vaited and i am thankful for the investers and for the people who will be here for a
