like to start off this evening but saying two simple words go giants (clapping.) with that, over a week ago more than 3 thousand 5 hundred step forward students were treated to a free sincerity on the bluegrass festival we remember our festivity and founder of the festival warren had a kid's only concert and the beloved tradition continues today, we wanted to thank all the staff and administrators and the students for attending that festival i'm very, very happy to share with the public that one of our elementary schools has been recognized at 2014 blew ribbon school by the democratic

our treasurer natalie is not able to be here she's in the field working at the council meeting it is the first board meeting i've spoken at i'm normal at the meeting but i'm glad to acknowledge i'll the good work stick with us as we move along there the school year and support all the hard work in the schools and on the ground and in our central offices i'm sure you're aware of we're affiliated that the san francisco labor compoundable and the school administrators and the american federation this weekend we're going to be hosting the large urban district administrator unions out near the airport and we're very expected to talk about the issues in urban settings so that's it for the evening just

acknowledge her long private life here and just a moment talk about i thought her life was a exemplifying with the united states of america was about my mom what was born if russian and her father and her and her mom had to flee from the revolution where they announced they would be shooting all the people including my grandfather i never met who was a factory owner 83 she lived in a place she returned 78 years later after the sovereign period and came to the united states and she grew up in the bronx and was one thought just like the millions of eastern jewish emigrates to the united states she graduated

from a college she is now, one of they're old it alumni she worked at barn i can't do and was active in the alumni association she actually give up being the court reporter for her class that's what she said nobody tells them with would e what to write they have 9 living members in their class anyway, i said to take this really personal privilege that i have i have this public roll to acknowledge her and all this country has done for her and our family and to thank you all for your kindness

meeting the pack members continued to explore areas of focus as we work to establish our priorities for the year next week we'll continue this processed and develop specific goals and identify action plans for you work one program will be to hold parent meetings with the community advocates and district partners about current district policies and possible briefings radio the african-american achievement plan, the new and interim reclassification standards and implementing the safe school noichts to name a few for about opportunity for the community partners to know how to support students and let their input directly impact

those decisions. >> thank you. >> i'll be reading on behalf of the 70 san francisco school district second family empowerment conference the pack members partnered with the staff in equality to plan and orientation and facility the workshop a call to counterpart african-american parents the idea for the workshop was from racial ethnicity as the schools that have greater you participation of african-american families and are created in leadership tints for acknowledging families the pack members wonder what support does african-american patterns need for their school sites to create their leadership opportunities what were some of

the successful strategies practicing tools to get african-american to participate what are some of the opportunities for the establishment of african-american groups parents who attended this workshop also wanted to know what more can they do to help their schools parents who also attended the workshop wanted to know the black street celebration to schools that don't have them the workshop was designed to support and build on the african-american parents ssi and create an alliance for african-american parents groups across the district to reduce the isolation we have i would like to say i also
