happy. i'm here to support haregue. >> good afternoon. i'm here for support of haregue. i came to know her a few months after i arrived in the united states where i was looking for a lawyer to help me with my asylum case and ms. haregue distinguished herself with her high grace and her compassionate nature and such a pleasant permit. -- personality. she made me decide she was the person i was looking for.

she demonstrated those qualities and she showed more allegiance in handling my case. in that being daughter of immigrants, she won my trust as she had depth knowledge of issues that we immigrants face today. it's for those reasons that i strongly believe that ms. haregue is an exceptional candidate for the position of commissioner in the immigrants rights commission. thank you so much. >>supervisor norman yee: thank you. >> good afternoon supervisors, my a name is victor huang and department director of outreach which is the largest immigration services in our city. i'm here to speak on

behalf of your candidate leah price. after interviewing dozens candidates we selected leah price to run our program because she's such a stellar candidate. i just want to share a couple of comments that i have heard from folks that i have interviewed. in speaking with her colleagues at the national lawyers guild which she serves at the rights project. it's a very contentious, very energetic coalition and she shows leadership within the guild and extend the guild services for those in need of our legal services. when i spoke with her colleagues at the services where she served as

a founding board member, they described the important work she did in mentoring the young attorneys and saw the hearts of even the hardest judges to work across the aisle. finally when i spoke with the foreign -- african resource immigrants they said they would like to hire her. that's why we hired leah price. i'm hoping you will select her for the commission position. >> good afternoon, supervisors and everyone. my name is abraham, i'm an immigrant myself. i immigrated to san francisco for 33 years and lived here

for 33 years. i'm there is brother of sooner lomon -- he was commission on immigrants rights. i know the importance of this commission because i have seen my brother work hard and trying to organize and had e did so many things that he could but life caught up with him and he passed away. i believe, haregue signed up for this position. haregue is signed up for this committee. she's done a lot for the community and we expect her to do more. there is so many countless immigrants that obtained their residency because of her hard work. i believe by her being in

very much, mr. chairman and thank you to the department head and her staff and to all the applicants. as chair yee indicated anytime you have more applicants than seats it's eight -- it's a challenge because there are so many great people. everyone who applied and spoken here today i think can be a pretty effective member of this commission and i actually think that the immigrant rights commission is one of the most important commissions we have , and not only is it important for san francisco, but it's important for the state of california and country because san francisco time and time again continues to be a leader around issues on immigration and because of that, who sits on the immigrant rights commission is really important because the membership of that commission will

determine whether or not we continue to play that leadership role. so this is what i'm thinking, i don't know where my colleagues are, but i think that continuity is important. so i would want to reappoint commissioners haregue, and i think those three commissioners are why they were appointed. very impressive presentations that were made by them and on their behalf and i mean the people that came and spoke about each one of them i think you know said it all and their

respective communities look up to them and i want to thank them for the work they have done so far and i think it's important for those three commissioners to continue their work. in terms of the other two seats. seat one was held by viera hail who passed away recently and she was truly a champion for not just immigrants, but for anyone who had a tough time. and so i think that's also a very important position and also the replacement of teresa chi. i have to again talking about, almudena, and i'm actual excited who someone who is not only a leader in

san francisco, but an international leader and someone who has done in credible work throughout the world advancing human rights is interested in serving. i actually think it's a testament to how important this commission is that someone like almudena is interested and anyone in human rights knows about her an i think she would be an incredible addition and for the other seat i believe that based on experience and the work that this individual has done that leah chen price would also been an addition. i'm grateful for the leadership role she has played in immigrant rights. that's where i am and wait to hear what my colleagues think. >>supervisor norman yee: supervisor tang. >>supervisor katy tang: thank you for starting us off and thank you

for the applicants who are here today. i know that we all try to meet with a lot of the inform -- folks who couldn't come here today. looking around the room, it's amazing to see such diversity here an what a city to be part of immigrants rights division and all of your work is so important and not just issues that we are dealing with now but in san francisco and how you can continue to be a leader on immigration issues. with that said, i also do agree that having our current commissioners being able to continue, i would support that, so commissioner gaime andensani, i would be okay with mr. campos no

minations and was able to speak on that as well. i would be okay with mr. romanenko and miss chen price and bernabu. >> if i may make a motion that we reappoint haregue for seat no. 3, bill hing, for seat no. 2 and elahe for no. 9 and chen price for seat no. 5. >>supervisor norman yee: okay, there is a motion and i agree with

both my colleagues here this each one of you are well qualified for this. this is another very difficult decision. for the people that are not going to be able to getten this time, please reply. i have seen it over where people did not get it the first time around many times get it the second time around. i agree with the three incumbents here. the three people that are going to be reappointed. i looked at one important issue for myself and my clooez in the past is to look at whether people show up for the meeting and i'm glad all three of them are stellar in their attendance. there is no reason for me to not want to support their reappointment.

>> good morning, everybody. welcome to beautiful delores park. this is a long time coming. back in 2008, voters approved a clean and safe neighborhood parks bond which allocated about $14 million to improve this incredible park. our goal together we are going to build the new dolores park that is going to be built to last. it is going to retain all of it's important features, all of it's historic qualities, all of it's essential beauty. but yet be

built with the idea that this is whenever people come. >> we are going to be renovating all six tennis court's, replacing the basketball court with operations underneath so the staff has the ability to maintain the park. we are completely renovating the irrigation system and in addition to the operations we are building two new restroom buildings. this fund was part of the park renovation fund. we knew community was very supportive of a renovation fund. we engaged in a community process which we began with the park to do a detailed assessment of the condition of the park and very details conversation about

what we can do in the park and utilize what we can. >> parks are where people can gather and where to relax and a lot of people in the city don't have back yards and this is where we come to be with our community. >> 1, 2, 3. our discussions, the decisions we make. it is good for us. we kind of behavior little bit when we have people in the audience. msk (music) >> we are rehearsing for our most expensive tour; plus two concerts here. we are proud that the growth of the orchestra, and how it is expanded and it is being accepted. my ambition when i came on as music director here -- it was evident we needed absolutely excellent work. also evident to me that i thought everyone should know that. this was my purpose. and after we opened, which was a spectacular opening concert about five weeks

after that the economy completely crashed. my plan -- and i'm absolutely dogmatic about my plans --were delayed slightly. i would say that in this very difficult timefor the arts and everyone, especially the arts, it's phenomenal how new century has grown where many unfortunate organizations have stopped. during this period we got ourselves on national radio presence; we started touring, releasing cds, a dvd. we continue to tour. reputation grows and grows and grows and it has never stopped going forward. msk(music)

>> the bay area knows the orchestra. you maybe take things for granted a little bit. that is simply not the case will go on the road. the audiences go crazy. they don't see vitality like this on stage. we are capable of conveying joy when we play. msk(music) >> any performance that we do, that a program, that will be something on the program that you haven't heard before. string orchestra repertoire is pretty small. i used to be boxed into small repertoire. i kept constantly looking for new repertoire and commissioning new arrangements. if you look at the first of the program you have very early, young vibrant mendelson;

fabulous opener and then you have this fabulous concerto written for us in the orchestra. is our gift. msk(music) >> and then you have strauss, extraordinary piece. the most challenging of all. string orchestra work. 23 solo instrument, no violin section, now viola section; everybody is responsible for their part in this piece. the challenge is something that i felt not only that we could do , absolutely could do, but i wanted to show off.
