leadership not only as our director of transportation by certainly the president of nah 0 could i'm thrilled you're here in the city i know you're about to see if not a lot of the things happening in our city we want to make sure that the themes that you have for the conference about cities and innovations and mobility can be sdeementd so while you're here please make sure you do all you can too walk and bike and take ride sharing obeying be careful on the upper deckerers but i think you've already and if you haven't i encourage to go down 0 or to our transbay center this is under construction and he'll

hear it and feel it as we do our central subway we'll been working hard to get those promotions those are historic projects for our city and the transbay scienter you've read we tinder to have electrical caltrain from our high speed rail from the state of california we believe that is important to our entire region to get it done and glad to be working with governor jerry brown to make sure we're investing properly i'm excited for this conference because we have got to brightest mind in transportation and say thank you. i also want to make sure i give a shout out to the mayors from the cities our from any get a chance to work with all of them they either point you or hire you i want to thank the

other mayors when we get together we have an important committee of transportation we're also sharing the best practices and ideas things that cause us to work together on a national level it is great to have chooment the transportation concert all of us go through the experience of learning everything to run a great city when our working they national level you don't forget the potholes but where all the challenges are in the city i think this is going to be very, very helpful and san francisco is very proud to be one of the 40 cities certainly in california that has officially endorsed the national good morning, supervisors and give a

shout out you're making a great impact (clapping) and i want to take a moment and thank our supervisor in my district supervisor scott wiener it was him that supported the legislation to make sure we enforced the mat could guidelines i want to relocate edward reiskin who is serving as the president of the nah could we've had a chance to work with our leadership and former leadership give a shout out to janet for her leadership as the past nah could president and underful in new york in mayor michael blossoming burger my daughters are in new york you've got to take care of them we know that streets make up 80 percent of our picking up pun realm we have to take care of that and

we've got important propositions but as you go around the city not only is it a transbay center and central subway work we're doing take a look at what utilized to be fridays before the loma prieta earthquake and we had them in chinatown along broadway if you take a look at it and ride through them you'll see popular projects that includes housing and multimodes of transportation along omaha and the we had all freeway rams making all those crossroads exciting and wonderful especially important because literally this month is the 25 mini of the loma prieta earthquake and we've become a

stronger city since that time we're also trying to make sure our cities are saving this is a huge responsibility of all mayors and all the transportation experts in this room safety on our streets you don't know how it hurts to hear news reports of seniors crossing streets and getting hit by motors or a bicyclist turning a corner and getting hurt or pedestrians not looking both ways we're educating peep in various los angeles's no matter what color the light is you could be dead right we're here to educate our traffic to slow down and people to be much more aware but ultimately within this room your street designs are going to be of great help we

have the very big investment in our city and proposition this november that summits it part of that $3 billion that ed was mentioning the first $500 million in a appropriations of $300 million will be focused on making sure our streets are designed and signal listed and signage to get to zero death our vision zero is a serious goal we're united about preventing the death and fatalities along our streets so thank you (clapping) so i can talk on and on all morning you have wonderful panelists this morning i hear that the form staff are heading up agencies in los angeles and you've got people from all over the country here to share a talk

to i'm excited i want to know what your talking about and what i think is the best approaches i'm a mayor that want to make sure our cities are successful we can't do that without successful transportation to me transportation is the great equal legislators the mayor and i have talked about the income and equality and all the challenges we have about economics when you get to transportation and certainly for our city you'll ride a muni bus or trolley or the bart and standing right next to a ceo of a billion dollar corporation because people need to get things done and we have transportation that units them all throughout the city this equal legislators gets people to work and families and gets them

the community at it have you ever seen venue i want to acknowledge the long-standing community members thank you for being here and many of you know, we lost this exit to foreclosure we've been through many, many community meetings and many hours discussing the future of 56 raymond to today it is with great pleasure and honor i announce the city of san francisco habitation acquired the ownership of this property 66 raymond (clapping) and what's most important this day is not about reclaiming a building but about reclaiming an important piece of the visitacion valley center community for the community this asset was lost a long time ago due to foreclosure but with

the help of the mayor's office the help of my staff and, of course, the tremendous help of the community the members 3 stand behind me their advocacy we won this is symbolic because a neighborhood stood up and fought and we've delivered 2, 3, 4 tremendous interrelation mom it's occasion to the visitacion valley center neighborhood we're here to be here i'm proud to deliver back to the community 66 raymond the city's ownership means the residents will have a health place for activities to gather as a community the cities ownership of this community center of this building we'll have a place tour our seniors and visitacion valley center thank you to all the community members that have remained

steadfast and the next person you'll here from is mayor ed lee he'll share with you his vision after the mayor maria sue between many meetings she and i have met to late out a specific strategy and services that happening happens at 66 raymond mr. mayor thank you for being here (clapping.) i think we want to make sure many have translations let me say something in chinese okay. >> (speaking foreign language.) >> cowen - raymond all right. i just said to them that

supervisor cohen just announced that the 66 raymond street has been gifted to san francisco government so that we can in turn use it according to what supervisor cohen has explained for all the community uses and the seniors here that are gathered are here know this is an important thing you saw them clap they've been for years wanting to make sure they've expanded the services limited at 50 raymond to now the other side of the courtyard filled with the capacity services of the city i know that supervisor cohen has think been here for quite some sometime and through her leadership that did owners of the building said we have to do this and make a difference we went through some times when we

doesn't were not certain whether or not the owners of the building would cooperate now they have i serve as a back up to supervisor cohen and i said this wherever she said we have to do something and certainly the same thing with the board president president chiu we wanted to make sure the funds we at the time set aside with supervisor cohen's leadership those funds would be spent to make sure that the buildings would be rehabbed and make sure that they would get a good level of rehab so that it could be converted to senior use a lot of champs but welcome everyone to visitacion valley this is a wonderful part of our as you can see xhooufd said the sun is shining on us we have good news and right here

visitacion valley we were down here a few months ago opening up the supermarket and across the street you'll see 17 hundred brand new units of affordable housing because of the location here and because of the income that people make around here i know the developers right here is excited about this we support him and make sure this project gets down this community is on the move a lot of things happening in the south crossroad of our city therefore this of 6 raymond is a good announcement and investment thank you to supervisor cohen for her leadership and quite franklin e frankly wouldn't be done without her tests her persistence as a team i mean team kind of like the team that is going to play tomorrow night and i want to say

thank you to supervisor cohen we're happy to share this news with everybody who uses the center and wants more activities and more improvements we're going to be hearing a lot there's a lot of things to get done and thanks to her leadership with supervisor cohen we'll continue to get a done your next up maria sue for families it oversees many of the families at raymond. >> it's a such a beautiful, beautiful day and appropriate we're celebrating if this with the sun and residents and community members i'm maria from the youth department i'm proud of the leadership with mayor ed lee and supervisor cohen and president chiu for truly bringing back this sister building of this true community

interit has been is an anchor within our city and the visitacion valley center for well over 95 years and supervisor you said one hundred years this has been a place for residents this place is a place for parents to come to seek support services for their children to learn how to support their babies a as they develop e develop a place for youth for mentor and place for seniors for nutritious meals for opportunity to congregate and socialize to bring meaning to their lives i'm proud to be standing here with the city community and our community balances partners to revitalize this center and bring that back to its full glory of what was was before i'm proud and committed as folks to bring

the services back here to insure that our young people whether they're coming from school back into they're community there's a safe place to come to if they want that first opportunity for career development come here for the skills tests apartment that need support for after-school program and services they can come here and receive the support i'm really proud the leaderships once again and mayor ed lee and supervisor cohen and president chiu and i look forward to working with them as well as our community based organizations and our community residents to make that as beautiful and vibrant as it should be thank you. asked to move to our invitation center a lot of the seniors wanted to program but that was under foreclosure thank you supervisor cohen for listening to our seniors and expressing their needs to have their programs here we're very happy to be partnering are mayor ed lee and supervisor cohen to provide the programs the seniors need and thank you very much it up for listening anticipate protecting our seniors making sure they get a place they call their second home so thank you very much (clapping). >> in closing, i want to say this is the physical manifestation when everyone has a team effort again, thank you to the community partners and other community partners behind

>> we are here to celebrate the opening of this community garden. a place that used to look a lot darker and today is sun is shining and it's beautiful and it's been completely redone and been a gathering place for this community. >> i have been waiting for this garden for 3 decades. that is not a joke. i live in an apartment building three floors up and i have potted plants and have dreamt the whole time i have lived there to have some ability to build this dirt. >> let me tell you handout you -- how to build a community garden. you start with a really good idea and add community support from echo media and levis and take

management and water and sun and this is what we have. this is great. it's about environment and stewardship. it's also for the -- we implemented several practices in our successes of the site. that is made up of the pockets like wool but they are made of recycled plastic bottles. i don't know how they do it. >> there is acres and acres of parkland throughout golden gate park, but not necessarily through golden community garden. we have it right in the middle of
