[ applause ] >> one of the most ferocious players on the court, one of the most genteel and fun guys off the court. damon green. [ cheers and applause ] his nickname is the senator which is why i have him separated from ed lee because when you talk about election results, i don't want to have two politicians together. one of the rising stars as he is. [ cheers and applause ] and a man who continues to

dominate the nba from seattle to all star weekend to years in the league office in phoenix and now the president of the warriors, lebron james business, rick welch. [ cheers and applause ] now, events like this are always important to the warriors because there is two baseball teams in the bay area. there is two football teams in the bay area, but there is one basketball team and this is the one team. we are the bay area's team. you think about it whether it be from napa and sonoma all the way down to fresno to sacramento and tahoe, san jose, oakland and san francisco, our new home. this is really something where millions and millions of people come together for one squad. this happens to be at 36 and 6, the best team in the nba. [ cheers and applause ]

we always say about coming to a warrior game and the crowd with this collective bay area molestation lestation mojo that our players feel it and if you were there friday night to see clay thompson to go from 37 and a quarter. i know we are worried about the san andreas fault but that building levi taetd on its own. it's so important to the warriors. if you think of san francisco with the largest population of chinese outside of mainland china. it becomes a key

part of who our fan base is and we reach out to our fan base of all races, carried, ethnicity. really for china this is a place where we the warriors have traveled. harris and damion has traveled. i have traveled with the olympics. it really shows you how the nba can be identified on a global bases. what i found out in china is that every city in china must have a basketball court. that's by state law. no matter where you are in beijing, shanghai, places the warriors have visited or the agricultural areas there is always a basketball and always someone like tramd

green is. we have an account for the very first team to get involved with social media, internationally in china. it's important to us. we have a special unveiling today that links the warriors specifically with something very special in the chinese new years. >> let's hear from eric welch. >> let's hear it for bob. [ applause ] . >> we are going to have some fun today but i want to do something a little serious from the beginning. we are at the betty young recreation center and we are known for the history with the warriors and you need to know who betty was. she was a flight attendant who took off from a flight from boston. the first flight that hit the

world trade center building and somehow during that flight she had the presence of mind to be the one communicating to the people on the ground what was happening, who had been the perpetrators of this horrible event and showed so much strength and courage. she was born in san francisco, she grew up here in chinatown and she's a true american hero. it's important that you remember that. thank you. [ applause ] >> is her sister here? where is she? right there. stand up. thank you very much for being here today. thank you. [ applause ] >> so today we are here to recognize and to celebrate the importance of the chinese community to the golden state warriors, how about that. is that worth a round of applause?

we are the bay area's team and i'm sure you know that three of the five largest asian communities in the united states are right here in the bay area, in san francisco, oakland and in san jose. you may or may not know that this today's nba 20 percent of the players on our nba rosters come from outside of the united states. no more important than in the history of -- has opened a whole new area of basketball and interest in the nba in china and everybody will forever be indebted to yaw to keep people's mind in china to enjoy the nba and basketball more than ever before. in the last four 4 years we have staged that the warriors are asian

heritage night and we have a special celebration for chinese new year. we would like to think of ourselves as innovators, we like to think of new things. not all of them work, but we would like to try them and we want to make everything a better experience. and we have a team to introduce the short sleeve jerseys. that's coming up in just a moment. today is an at some point to celebrate our relationship with the chinese community because we are going to make a little bit of history. the warriors and rockets are going to unveil a special uniform they are going to wear on the court in honor of chinese new year. [ applause ] . so we have two very appropriate representative. not only are

they two of our star players in the starting lineup but two players that not only traveled to china with the warriors but they also on their own taken trips to china and been involved in the culture of china and met the people of china and have on their own time understood the connection between china and the bay area. so without further a do, we would like to ask barnes and green to get up. this is where the drum roll comes. and unveil the uniforms that the warriors will be wearing this celebration of the chinese new year. go for it. to you, bob. >> now, as exciting as it is to see harrison and dramon when we left the warriors, it was difficult because we had to leave the other warriors and we left the guys standing on the curb very upset that they were not chosen to wear the chinese new year jersey. these are great. first and foremost is where to get them? >> thanks for asking, bob. >> that was a trick. >> starting right now you can go to warriors.com and preorder these jerseys. the first game is on the 20th against the san antonio spurs. the shop will be full of chinese

new year jerseys and if you travel to travel they will be available there too. >> we are g -- going to wear these four times, they are going to be broadcast here and in china. i will again the broadcast with ni how. going to china, you have gone a couple times with the team but you also went on your own. tell me what struck you with the chinese people and the fervent and interest in the nba baseball? >> actually i have been three times. i also went with u.s.a basketball. the mannerism and their appreciation for you to come to their country just to play basketball, i mean, they will give you the world there. just the mannerisms and they make you feel like one of their own and you

can't thank them enough. coming to the bay area, my rookie year, coming from michigan state. i was so homesick. so to go all the way to china, i was homesick in a day but they make you feel at home with their mannerism and appreciation. i can't thank coach enough. [ cheers and applause ] >> harrison, does it give you an idea of how maybe small the world is that a dramon green and harrison, and the knowledge that people had about basketball. they knew about teams and players and the whole bit. >> i think that was one of the most surprising thing about china is how knowledgeable they were of the teams and they knew about our

coaching staff and how we played and they tried to imitate how we do our fast breaks and how wild and the energy that we are. that was great to see. not only do our fans here recognize but the people in china and they really do care. >> rick, initially with the dream team, the idea was to really make the nba available on a global basis. nothing says more global than china and that fervent basketball. your linkage between the nba and china. what's been your experience between now and 2015 that highways taken leaps and bounds in the next century of it? >> already today china represents the largest market in basketball than anywhere else in the world. it's the only country in the world

where we set another company, nba china to grow the sport of basketball in one country. that doesn't exist any where else in the world. longer term, we give all the credit to yaw and the houston rockets for establishing the connection with the nba but over time, the golden state warriors has to be the chinese team that we look to because of the amazing chinese population here. so long-term, we want to be china's team. >> tell me about the uniforms themselves. tell me about the design. i see the warriors slate a little bit like on saturday. there is a lot of different accents and color teams. what was that in >> slate is a lucky color for the warriors, we are 5-0 on our saturday night game. we never lost a game when we were wearing the slate

color for the jerseys and yellow a tip of the hat to china and of course warriors have yellow in our color scheme too. on the shoel on the waste band you see celebrating the year 2015, the year of the goat. i just want you to know that. it's been a 2-year process to have us go through development and be able to present what we are presenting today. from a basketball point, gog is a greatest of all time. when you think of the warrior season so far in our franchise season in the whole year, this is the greatest we've had. [ cheers and applause ] >> i think dramon when you

think of the chinese community and the culture there is such a sense of family and you see multi-generation really people hanging out together as well as attending games and the honor of people that have come before them. the camaraderie of this warriors team is so exceptional that it should be a high school team or youngster team, yet it is an nba team. what is so special about this years warriors and this group and this staff of players together? >> it's amazing the chemistry throughout the entire organization. it's not just the players or the staff. it's the entire organization from the marketing department to the pr department, everyone. you can feel that love, feel that bond. it shows where this organization has come over the last 4 years from an organization who, i mean, you look at the calendar

from what i have heard and you mark it to a win to now you wonder what's going on. it's a testament to everyone who has been involved from building this from the organization to rick wells to joe and peter buying the team and revamping everything and everybody is super close and it's a family. it's building the family and when it helps that, winning games always helps but everybody enjoying being around each other and you speak and you feel like family. anytime you feel that way off the court, it makes everything on the court a lot easier. >> harrison tell me what it's like to wear the jerseys nationally and internationally and have this fan base

so extended. >> that is our fan base. not only is it diverse but our fans they are almost a part of the family. they come out to every game. i remember rookie year, we were losing games and still they were packing the house and now their culture has changed and they are entirely changed. to be able to wear this uniform and have that sense of pride and showing that we are doing something different state of the art, it's great to be a part of. >> one guy whose big part of the presence and future is mayor ed lee. when you think of the building in process in san francisco, we already have the best basketball team. we might as well have the best place to play in. this is the best to happen. this can happen in san francisco because ed lee puts that to

rest. everything has happened and can happen through his leadership. rick, why don't you talk to one of the biggest warrior fans we had. i know he was building the arena and talking to the warriors last night. >> before i bring mayor lee, i want to say how proud and happy i am. it means so much to me and i'm sure the audience as well. [ cheers and applause ] the first chinese american sportscaster i have always tried to spotlight asian american athletes and asian americans love sports just as much as everybody and you go to warrior games and you see chinese american faces there and it's great to see the warriors recognize the strong fan base they have in this community and now they are wearing these

jerseys. hats off to the organization. okay, mayor. some tough questions here. are they going to ask you who is your favorite team or local sportscaster. we'll skip those questions. i know you have been a warriors fan for a long time. to see those jerseys, what does it make you feel like? >> >>mayor edwin m. lee: the greatest team is not just the warriors. they are our community's team. that's something different. it's great to see dramon and harrison here honoring us in this stadium and honoring our hero and this special unveil with your presentation of our cultural diversity and bring this on an international scale is really a part of the dna of

san francisco. i'm proud of our community. i'm proud of the past representative. obviously i stand on their shoulders when i'm the mayor of this great city. i truly appreciate it. i also want to let dramon and harrison that i used to dunk. of course, after dunkin donuts, right? i used to stick my tongue out and run down the court and like harrison, i used to sky jump and nobody could touch me. of course i woke up after that. but i say this to rick and the entire warriors organization from the very ownership and the day it was announced, we were feeling that it was going to be a huge difference in approach, not only in just building the arena but a relationship with the communities. you've done

that. and nick used individuals in advocating in the community and your presence of time and the values we want the kids to grow up with the values and strong teamwork, a dedication of excellence, of supporting each other because that's how we are going to succeed in the city and this represents that. with this uniform, my gosh, don't be surprised if you will find thousands of people in the chinese new year's wearing it because it's going to be that popular and they'll want to display it because this signals pride and we strongly feel that the warriors are part of the community and hopefully many more years to continue this relationship. i can't wait until that arena gets built and you are here in our city, but also everywhere you play, i think you hold yourselves high because of what you do throughout the court as well.

>> bob just mentioned this. how proud are you about the team so far? >> i went to the mayor's conference in dc and i go to brag. the president was there. i said we have the best nba team and what do you got? no answer. the record is fantastic and how you do it and especially 19 in a row? you've broken that very and these are not easy records to break. i mean, you've got other professionals that have spent all the years accepting this but you are able to do it and i'm very proud of you. i'm proud of your display of the creative innovation on the court. that kind of blends with what we are asking everybody to be is innovative in everything you

do and reach the highest standards and reach all along as much as possible. >> in 2015 the warriors plan to open in san francisco. what will that mean for the city >> gosh, the economics are going to be very clearly there. you are going to find thousands of people coming up every night. it's an arena more than just the basketball. basketball is a main play but it's an entertainment center and that's where peter and joe had a center where a lot of activities are going to compliment the exciting basketball that we have. i personally do think that you know when there was an announcement to come back to san francisco, i truly thought the value of the team tripled over night because of literally the kind of excitement that our city brings in attention, not only sports teams but to all the things that go with it. i'm

excited for this arena, for it comes back. i know the warriors have a lot of stories about the history of this team to share with everybody, the excitement of past championships and the teams that are a part of it. more and more as these kids realize, it's the entire story of what this team will do for the city and you will find a huge draw where it's going to be in a place where so much positive activities are going to happen. the innovation right across the street, right down the block where the world class pharmaceutical companies are using stem research to create solutions to the newest, the historic diseases that have not been cured. that's going to happen alongside your sports innovation and your incredible aspirations that happen as part of this team. >> as a chinese american, how

does it make you feel ? >> you know, i have to say, i think just like you, the immediate sense of pride, the ability to share. i think you also known even for you young players, you have to recognize that for the histories that we have grown up in, there always wasn't good times for chinese americans in the country. in fact we have a history in the country that we teach kids and that's why there is so much embracement of opportunities to our kids because those are not opportunities afforded to our parents and grandparents. there was a tremendous blockage for that and now for us to enjoy equality is really a strong word in this community that has a lot of history where it was constantly blocked, it was

blocked for african americans if not more so and for asians to come out into a community to be very much respected and regarded has truly changed. >> thank you very much, mayor. >> well, i think if mayor lee is having dreams of dunking and shooting 3s. he's got to have the appropriate attire to do that. rick, if you would, i think we have a little something for the honorable mayor lee.
