are definitely integrating and the think tank and design team is making this happen. any questions? >> was there any public comments >> we didn't receive public comment requestion >> questions? >> did you have comments regarding the initiative? no. >> i do want to comment and cu-mind the staff for all the hard work they have been doing with this because i know what goes into what you are doing and the fact you are integrating all these component and get to the heart of the outcomes to make a dent is really important. con gratulations on that. >> i just would like to say, i think this is a excellent overview. i think that showing
7:31 am
how infact it is integrated within the totality of our programs-initially you start within house and look at the senior ranking officers and start from there and filter and go across and be more inclusive and then directly you work with the community health centers and the programs so you are are covering the water front. you are not only looking at it across board, you are looking at it with tonight for the next generation after that as you have the comprehensive modual the work force development taking a look at now and in the future. it is great deal of thipg think and work and cretivety in this so we look forward to presentations >> doctor shanchise can you speak up a little. it wasn't
7:32 am
quite as loud. >> i just fete it was a excellent presentation and felt that you centered on the core hof the department qu worked with the senior folks first and training the initiatives and the new concept culturally humillty and equate with how that is presented and how it is implement within it con tenks of the institution and you go from there through the various academic initiatives and also through your various programs to the clinics and community and work force and then to the measured outcomes on the over all health of the future. the fact that you have been able to chart this very well and have this ongoing dialogue, but more importantly a work force that
7:33 am
is going to be up to speed pertaining to what the overall initiative was has been [inaudible] and now we are coming to a real operational model that can be used in other ways with the department as we take a lk at other unique issues or communities also. it is a really well documented effort at this point and look forward to future hearings regarding the progress as we take a look at each one of these integrated models that reflect the diversity of our programs and the people within thdepartment of public health. >> thank you. >> i would like to ask whether we can ask whether the actual initiative under collective impact can be heard and reviewed at the community and public health subcommittee.
7:34 am
i know you just finish td year one about how you measure results. i'm interested in the planning of the interventions that you are thinking about in order to get those results. i don't know if it is redhy for full commission >> the continued update would be at the committee level as we envision it and as it develops and it is ready for our next hearing then that would be where the committee would let us know that is-we are hoping to be able to continue to track our progress in a number of projects through the various committees and i appreciate your bringing that up as a attention because i was going to point out that i think in all these years we have not had the clarity that your proposal-the departments initiative have shown now to say, there are areas that we
7:35 am
will be focusing on and look for outcomes in regards to these and these will have measureable outcomes on the health of the people we are looking at and tagting. that is something we want to continue to follow. at this point in time that will be in our committee structure >> any further comment on this-it is a wonderful presentation to give the overall of what we will do. min millly at a years point we would like to hear this back if progress is moving, eeben better and the committee decide to inform us, but remember we'll review mitt committee minutes as we go along >> just the fact that you brought the 2 parts together, 2 sides of the house together, i
7:36 am
think this represents a way forward as we look at what really is integrated health down the road. i think we'll lurn a lot by your successs so looking forward to hearing about them >> thank you. if there are no further comments-our thanks to the group that worked very hard. it is a very long standing topic and looks like this time we have at least some goals that we are going to really be trying to impact and i think that is really important that we will be able to track this. thank you. >> thank you very much. our next item. >> to thank everyone for staying late because this is the last group of folks here. item 11 is other business. >> commissioners, on this topic as we heard a number of
7:37 am
subjects i asked staff to think of how the san francisco health network could or should be presented whether in parts or whether we want to divide segments. some of it will be related to our 2 major institutions and we already have during conference committees for that. at the same time, the public health committee heard a update on the progress of the integration of mental and physical health in the clinics. is it appropriate that we perhaps want to look at having segments of our network development in certain key committees that are more for example, maybe dh budget and financing or do we want to have one committee to look at all the topics. i asked staff [inaudible] with the director
7:38 am
and all to really consider potential recommendations as to how we track this. we can have another committee that can track the san francisco network. most would like to avoid too many more committees and see how they can ent great. our idea is to follow the progress, updates to know where the mile stones were and are we hitting them or not and develop a fuller picture that can dm to the full commission. we know we have quarterly updates from the san francisco health network, but there are specifics within those that merit i believe a tracking and understanding and assistance to our staff so that we can then be a participant in how we are going be developing our network. does that make some
7:39 am
sense coleen? >> i think you have this item before you at the planning session so we can work on that there >> this is sort of highlighting one of the topics we would like to take up at the planning session, part of the house keeping, so to speak, is what is the best way or sedgeed way and these can be trials, to see how they work out. i think we are beginning to get reports coming back now so it is important that we also can establish a structure so we can be helpful and careo out our responsibilities >> perhaps in relationship to our march 17 meeting where we will take up in full discussion, i look at it as we-i hope we can approach that meeting with the understanding of what we collectively feem may be a oversight role and how
7:40 am
do we want to implement that. imagine over site as cleaning your room. my son cleans the room and does the bed and under the table and does a little here and there just as he bumps into things and tries to clean it up and i come in and say why didn't you clean your room and he says i have been doing it all day. or you start in the corning and go from one end of the room to the other end. i use this as a model as our oversight as we take in the data and agree it is on track or not, how do we want to systematically go about this? some commissions worked out a animal plan and say this year we want to try to accomplish this as our working plan and hope that may be some of the things you are suggesting as we come at this. now that the city is producing a lot of good nrgz for us, i think we need to
7:41 am
be responsive by coming windup a system attic way that we can digest it and provide the guiding oversight that is so essential. i hope that makes sense with the analogy >> the analogy is interesting, but i think this falls well within the fact that we have 2 year budget and 5 year budgets and different planning initiatives, we just seen the african american initiative and we have-i think you ampifyed on what we hope would be part of the discussion of the planning committee >> i am not saying we are doing it either way >> no. there is no road map at the moment. we are all looking to see what is a
7:42 am
acceptable road map. we take the let or right road or we can try something, but we need to have a road map so we can assist staff so they know how we can do this in a organized fashion and not duplicateive and be responsible and at what level for the oversight. i asked them to prepare several options so we can discuss it. nothing is fixed in stone and we can have several sessions to figure what is the best because this is a important topic on how we lead our obligations under both the public health and the system of delivery oover the next seberal years? we are basically heading towards 5 year programs kwr plans and how do we monitor all
7:43 am
that? this is a opportunity for other commissioners to also bring thoughts up for our staff so that they could take a look at that and if you haven't-one at the moment, but you suddenly think of something in the middle of the night, please let coleen or barbara know so we can put those in the mix. i'm looking for-we are looking for a consensus process that would be helpful for everyone. >> any other thoughts? any other items that you would like to bring to our attention at this point? i'll ask mark if you remind us of the date and inform us about what appears to be our naird meeting >> march 17 you have planning session from 2-6 and on the
7:44 am
calendar the topics noted are noted there so if you have others let me know and i can pass them along to the health commission leadership. that meeting is 25 van nes. april 7 you have your meeting thip migds to focus on mission related services and is going be mission neighborhood service incornerated. i lost my memory there. i will remind you by e-mail of all these things >> anyone else have items for this topic? if not, then our next item is actually ajournment >> yes, i note for the record there is [inaudible] because there hasn't been a meeting and you combined 11 with other business so i think you covered that and now we are at 14 >> motion for ajournment is in order >> so moved. second is
