in the car because i don't need a script to endorse that young lady. she's the bomb and i would like you to consider her. >> thank you mr. seymour. next commenter please. >> [inaudible] >> yeah, please come. >> hi everyone. i am amanda peters. and i am here for dory. there's a couple of things i want you to know who i am because i'm not a well known person around here. i'm a navy veteran, seven year navy veteran hospital corps man and recently discharged vet. came to the tenderloin and experienced some set backs and experienced some homelessness and i met dory
1:01 pm
through my affiliation of cloud shares and important association in san francisco and done amazing things for the 18,000 homeless people and counting that are currently creating lots of challenges in the peninsula and i want to get back to i didn't think she's the best candidate. i really feel like for me i have to ask myself why do i care about an entertainment commission or why would i care about that thing? why would a recently homeless person want to endorse someone who's in the entertainment business? okay or advocating for that? well i have to ask myself a couple of things. what is night life to a homeless person, to a veteran? there are 18,000 of us so let's ask ourselves that. maybe finding a bus ride to ride the night away on. maybe that's something you can do or pander

for some change between the hours of nine and 11 people seem to be a little more willing to give because they haven't spent all their money maybe on the booze yet. maybe you could sleep on the sidewalk. that's an option. okay. maybe you could eventually -- hopefully the pandering went well so you could have five bucks and spend it on a $5 bagel that has been marked up -- [inaudible] >> that was your time but thank you. >> that's my time? >> yeah. i'm sorry. on the podium that's your time for future folks coming up. >> [inaudible] >> thank you. >> [inaudible] >> thank you. >> [inaudible] >> next speaker please. i

have other cards i will read. [calling speaker names] let's say if i called your name pleads line up on this side over here. i'm not sure because -- yeah, if you could please sign up over here but if i called your name. >> good afternoon supervisors. i am mary leigh mondejar and with the filipino network and one of the commissioners in community and infrastructure the successor agency of the redevelopment commission and i actually represent the neighborhoods and i am here to urge your support for dory's appointment to the entertainment commission. she's a dynamic and young filipino leader in the community and specifically in the tenderloin area. you have heard her introductions. i will share with you what i think she
1:04 pm
brings to the commission. she has this amazing ability to work with multiple san francisco stakeholders and she brings to the table the most important stakeholder in the commission which is the community, and this multiple events, festivals and clubs and cultural activities that impact the quality of life of the san francisco neighborhoods, and i live in district 6 and i am surrounded with bars and restaurants and i know sound, the noise, especially after the restaurants, the bars close is very important to my neighborhood, and i just feel that dory will bring that consensus between owners -- of course they need the business but also the neighborhood representing our own quality of life and making it safe for everyone, the patrons and also the neighbors, so we can walk safely home. when you get to know her you will find she's
1:05 pm
willing to challenge in conversations and a star at glide. everything that happens there is because of her and i urge you to appoint her and select her for the entertainment commission. thank you. >> thank you very much. next speaker please. >> hi my name is michael nolte and i was considering applying for the entertainment commission so i have a different perspective because of that reason and i am also the executive director of the alliance for better district 6 and we on a regular basis deal with the permitting and the applicants that deal with that and businesses that have those issues and i have regularly attended since the beginning of the entertainment commission the actual commission so i have a lot of history about as well as i have done neighborhood planning for 20 years so i have a real perspective what is a
1:06 pm
neighborhood and when someone comes up and says they're organization is the largest neighborhood organization -- well, district 6 has a lot of venues and the festivals and the tourists definitely come to our district so i am here to support her because of that. one, because she's a native. two -- i didn't know her before this and i took the time to read all the -- the whole packet you have so i understand the challenge you have to try to figure out who to choose but she stuck out she actually had -- she worked at criss daly's office and again it's in the packet. i don't remember -- so anyway we had to -- you read all of the different things about somebody. you have to look at how they spent their
1:07 pm
time and how they have given to the community and i think the thing is that a new young voice is needed on the entertainment commission and also somebody that can bring a lot to the commission and move the commission forward. i think the commission has changed over the years. there needs to be more prospective -- this is i neighborhood seat. not that you played in a rock band type of need. all of the other people are representing well the entertainment venues or entertainment industry, but we need the neighborhood. this is a neighborhood seat and has to deal with those issues. >> thank you very much. next speaker please. >> good afternoon. my name is is gabriel medina and here to speak in favor of jeremy wallenberg for the commission
1:08 pm
seet. i'm a native san franciscan and he is also and jeremy worked with me on a variety of issues helping affected communities. for example he helped a lot of merchants displaced by the recent mission fire. he has connect communities of color in high school to career pathways and hirer paying economies, so he has a really great perspective. you wouldn't know it by just looking at him but he has a comprehensive san francisco perspective for every neighborhood including the neighborhoods where i am from in the southeast part of san francisco. jeremy has integrity. he's always approachable. he's very fair, just and he understands a lot of the issues about legacy businesses. i have only supported about two issues through the entertainment commission supportin
1:09 pm
-- c ha, cha and i am confident he would do a good job as a commissioner i ask you for your support. thank you. >> thank you. next speaker please. >> thank you. good afternoon mr. chairman and supervisors. i am here to support my friend jeremy wallenberg. i got to know jeremy when he was working with persons with disabilities get connected on the internet and he did a terrific job and impressed with the intelligence and compassion he brings to those roles so i wholeheartedly support him. as a long time commissioner myself the basic job of a commissioner is look out for the whole city but mindful of special situations and considerations and i think the entertainment commission has an awful lot of that. new time residents and people coming in and he is extremely qualified
1:10 pm
to work on that. that to me is the important issue there of bringing fairness and balance to the commission and i am glad to be supporting that and thank you for asking me about my night life habits because if it's after 7:00 o'clock they don't happen but he's young and does all that stuff and i say my role on the mta commission but i am mindful of the transportation needs and look forward to the reports to address that need for the city. thank you. >> thank you. next speaker please and before the next speaker begins i will call more cards. [calling speaker names] >> thank you for this opportunity to speak. i took personal time from my city function today to come here as
1:11 pm
a citizen to support jeremy wallenberg. i have known him for four years and we met when we were putting together summer jobs and jobs for youth in the city. he's an advocate for all communities but i was especially impressed with him and the youth and summer jobs and throughout the year whether we needed support for those positions. i understand this is a short term position for the entertainment commission and i don't have a lot of experience with the commission but i can tell you that jeremy is patient. he's a very good listener. he has the right approach with everybody he deals with and i know he's young but he's very enthusiastic and active and a lot of people on boards actually don't devote a lot of time to the boards but my interactions with jeremy he's willing to give the time and the commitment and he takes those responsibilities very seriously when he commits himself to the
1:12 pm
functions and positions he's done. he's not going to wait to take the first step. he will use resources and turns to the community if he's unsure and i don't mean that in a way he will use people. he's interactive with the people in the city. i seen him at events giving up his own time and willing to be the young person out there. he brings that perspective to any function that he desires to be involved with so i appreciate your time and your commitment to this process as well. thank you very much. >> thank you. >> i didn't even recognize you. the voice and face was familiar but okay. thank you.

>> next speaker please. >> hello i am elliot durham and here to speak on behalf of nicholas belloni. i am speaking first in the capacity of an event producer, owner of ec productions. over the years my company has been involved with [inaudible] bluegrass, nike marathon and other large events and secondly speaking in the capacity as a san francisco resident who is particularly involved in the richmond district. from the work i have seen that he's done in the community i believe he's the best candidate for the position. as a san francisco event producer i worked with nick in the capacity of doing community outreach. prior to him being involved it was challenging to build a bridge within the communities. when nick joined the discussion there was a marked difference. there's now
1:14 pm
a positive open community dialogue established for many of the events i have been involved with. most notably the yearly meeting in the richmond district where the community can speak directly with the event producers of the bluegrass festival and rkt events and impacting that area are asking to participate in the meeting. it's a vital meeting whereas it's the only place that they can respond to the community's concerns. as a residents i have seen the positive effects on the community taking a situation where we sometimes we feel we have notice voice and give us a voice and thereby other producers take interest in how the community is impacted. i know nick not just to be an involved listener but an individual that can effectively maneuver a number of situations and then create change as well
1:15 pm
as negotiate compromise. i appreciate the work you're all doing today and thank you for taking the time to listen. >> thank you. next speaker please. >> thank you supervisors. my name is karl and i am here to support dory and i had the pleasure of working with her for six years as a partner with glide. i want to rely my profound experience working with her. we were part of a team doing an exercise with the disaster and feeding up to 10,000 folks in the event of an earthquake and no electricity, no water. how on earth are we going to feed those people that come to glide and st. anthonys everyday? and if there is a quality to stand out it's her diversity and navigate different
1:16 pm
populations. i know it's not per se part of the entertainment commission but that quality and skill set is important and she's a fabulous person and i enjoy work with her and one word to describe her is "ubiquitous" and she's everywhere and in person and in social media and she's the person for you. i think that stem from a core value of dory with the support letters and there are many and folks that knew her for a long time describe her as "as having a shared humanity" and if you're looking for a neighborhood person to represent the commission she's your girl. thank you. >> thank you. next speaker please. >> good afternoon supervisors. my name is chris holmes the director of director of operations for the newly named

zappos breakers [inaudible] which is coming up in two and a half months. i had the opportunity to meet nick a year ago when making rounds in the different community meetings and a background we changed hands to the wasserman media group in 2013 so 2014 was the first time doing the event and we figured out nick was not only valuable to know within the community but in san francisco as a whole and the proof is really in all of the work he puts in not only with par but rec and park as well as many other organizations he been able to link us with. really one of the strongest assets he has is the ability to talk with both the local community within his district and elsewhere but also able to communicate their concerns to the events that affect his district. we were able to effectively address all of the
1:18 pm
concerns and found ways that we can benefit from the event and have minimal impact on their communities so we look forward continue to work with nick over the next year. he's been fantastic to work with and a valuable addition to the commission. thank you. >> thank you. next speaker please. >> hello i am christine [inaudible] and the executive director at glide and i am here to support theodora marie caminong and she runs all of the events at glide and planning events, working with communities, events and et cetera and i thought it was a natural fit with this position but the real work of glide in the event is bringing different people together and she's a master at that and why she's been successful and not just putting on the events but how do you make people feel comfortable and that's my support of her.
1:19 pm
the second reason i'm a resident of san francisco since 1993 and i'm on the 22nd year and a mother raising two children in the haight and she's the representative i want to see on the entertainment commission. it's her expertise but the warm and caring and entertainment committee is more than just the night life and i want to raise my children here because it has events for all people and we as a family can participate into and i think she knows how to do that and i want her on the commission to make sure it's there. thank you. >> thank you. next speaker please. before the next speaker i have two more cards. [calling speaker names] >> good afternoon supervisors. my name is david jimenez and a member of the sikh community here in san francisco. i fully support nicholas belloni for the commission. he personifies the voice of the neighborhood
1:20 pm
[inaudible]. he has the unique ability to identify the special needs of all parties with the event he has listed. having known him since 1979, kindergarten, i can truly say that nick cares about the neighborhoods. he cares about san francisco. he was born here. he was raised here and continues to reside here. the commission needs more people like nick who just care about the city, and the unique needs of not only those that bring events to san francisco, but those people in the neighborhoods who are affected so greatly. i want to say that i support nick fully for this position. thank you. >> thank you very much. >> thank you. bob freeze. i am here -- i have been a board
1:21 pm
member of san francisco beautiful and paul wells was a valuable member and served from 71 to 79 of the chair of the board of supervisors task force on noise control. noise in my opinion being one of the major variables with these events and the condition is controlling or at least advising on and there are three reasons that i felt paul might have some special qualities given the luxury of wonderful candidates you have here today and one was his ability to simply be a terrific adviser, listener and maintain an objective argument in favor of the neighborhood interest as well basically dispute he's known as a entertainment and media person and by virtue of the access and the things he does for the community in that area. he's also a person as i say has been gifted in my
1:22 pm
opinion being able to challenging in a way of getting through divisive circumstances without turning the thing into an actual fight over things and i think with all of the good neighborhood candidates that there are out there he may have the quality by virtue of access to the media and could be a special value to the group and i say that with respect to the other candidates. thank you very much. >> thank you. any other member of the public who would like to comment please come forward and if others that would like to comment on this appointment please line up along the wall where the doors are. >> good afternoon. my name is jason roth brown and director of programs at the african-american cultural group here in san francisco and i am here to support dory in this seat of commissioner with the san

francisco entertainment commission. i think someone used the word "ubiquitous" and it's a great word and every time i look over she's there and a multitude of different programs and stevie wonder -- once a year and call a phone number and find out about the event and she is everywhere and she's always smiling. in addition -- not to embarrass her she's an auntie to my three daughters who love when she calls on friday and where are we going to eat? what event do you want to do this weekend? so i am one of the folks that came from new york strictly for art and entertainment about 15 years ago, and was really well plugged when i met dory through

my wife of 15 years as well. i am impressed with this meeting with the commission of the concern of san francisco to take care of its residents. thank you. >> thank you very much. next speaker please. >> good afternoon members of the committee. eddy long with [inaudible] project here to speak in support of nicholas belloni. we have been impressed with his work on rec and park in particular and i have been brief and seconding a lot of comments and support already made for him. thank you. >> thank you very much. if there are no other members of the public that would like to comment we will close public comment. [gavel] and i would like to thank all of the members of the public for commenting and of course the people seeking appointment on the entertainment commission we have four people who are very, very qualified who have a lot of great support from the community and people in the entertainment industry as well and i think
1:25 pm
it's very challenging appointment that we're making here before us. if i may go first about what my preference is i was able to sit down -- my staff was able to sit down with most of the candidates and i was able to personally sit down with jeremy wallenberg and with theodora marie caminong and i was very impressed with both of them. one of them i actually know very well from her work in san francisco at glide and the community and is a personal friend as well and that's dory, it's very challenging decision to make to think about the two individuals that i felt had really talked well about what the real role of the entertainment commission is. it's really balancing how we promote entertainment as one of the great things that san francisco has to offer residents and tourism, a real economic engine with the needs of neighborhoods and both spoke
1:26 pm
very well about that. i felt that coming from the excel sesessor district with she lives and works it gives me a strons sense of her as a neighborhood person and people that actually work in the entertainment and night life industry and what they face in terms of getting home, getting to work, getting home, but also she's very, very familiar with the word ubiquitous is what i would use as well for her. she's in a lot of places at the same time and knows very well the entertainment industry and is able to navigate that from various perspectives, from the neighborhood perspective but also from the perspective of the entertainment entry as well. her work at glide gives her strong relationships with san francisco that needs attention from the commission and south of market and the tenderloin parts
1:27 pm
of san francisco. i am impressed with the people who are in support of her, many people involved in the entertainment industry as well so that's my preference and i do want to put in some strong words for jeremy wallenberg as well. i found him to be charming, a great deal of experience in san francisco and a lot of different neighborhoods and has a wide breath of knowledge of what the commission does as well as his connection with a lot the diversity of san francisco as well, but i think i would like to put my support behind dory so that's my take and i would like to hear comments from my colleagues. supervisor tang. >> all right. i guess i will go next. thank you supervisor avalos and thank you for your interest and everyone waiting patiently for your items today as well. i agree with a lot of what supervisor avalos said. i think when i think of entertainment -- i heard
1:28 pm
comments during public comment they wanted to address so number one i think entertainment comes in all different shapes and sizes, and there are neighborhoods for example the districts i represent and the outer sunset and we don't have a lot going on out there. it doesn't mean we don't pay attention to the area or don't address it. i think entertainment can help boost a neighborhood, create community, change a neighborhood, actually create better public safety in some ways so i am interested in looking for the new commissioner coming on board to address issues city wide even where we're lacking entertainment so for me i saw in the candidates that we had people ranging from those who have deep knowledge of the industry who are performers themselves, people who have done a lot of work for neighborhood organizations and worked very well with various communities whether from the community side or bridging the relationship
1:29 pm
between vendors or entertainment venues so it was a very difficult decision actually. for me it came down to two people as well what supervisor avalos said of the same two. i know mr. bell lonnie and i appointed him to prozac and really a community person but in terms of this particular commission i think one of the commenters said we need a new young voice and i would add for me diversity and for me my decision will land on dory because she represents a voice currently not on the commission, a young woman of color so looking at the makeup of the rest of the commissioners that's what my decision will be today. >> thank you. supervisor cohen. >> thank you. good afternoon. thank you to the applicants and i appreciate your time and
1:30 pm
interest and i hope this doesn't dissuade you those that aren't successful today and you will continue to serve san francisco. on the rules committee one thing that i take seriously is creating a commission that is balanced that represents the ethnic and gender make up of san francisco and i am concerned about the entertainment commission. it is largely -- it's actually all male with the exception of one woman and largely caucasian and asian. i think there is one latino and one representative for lgbt community and so as i listen to the response -- as i read the response and listen to the questions i did ask a question about what you bring to the commission and one of the things that is important to me and that i did hear was an acknowledgment that dory spoke of bringing
