my name is ms. lauren i'm joined by some other colleagues from the division who will be able to answer questions about the proposal so it's been discussed quite a bit in this meeting the residential parking is a process we've established the criteria in place those criteria have remained relating the same for the last 40 years residential permit the sfmta doesn't initiate them but reviews and recommended if the suggestions are in an area or an expansion of the area is warranted thank you. >> great. >> so you know desperate the

citizens this is a wide variety of interests and parking is a challenging topic that hits home for a lot of quick overview of the presentation i'll just remind the audience of how the program works as director reiskin mentioned to discourage people with out of the area vehicles the program can't promise a parking space for everyone in the area but helps to meet the outside parking demand like the bart stations so for this proposal to is a map of the proposal as under consideration today for the majority of the area is currently unregulated there is

certainly a high demand for parking ems residential parking is proposed in a blue area you'll see on the map and what that means specifically is that resident will be able to pretty much a parking for residential areas and others a two hour time period for parking in the area they purchase one parking permit that is for occasional drivers the map has been solid if i did over a if you reproduced of community discussion and covers masonic and page and golden gate so we'velittle bit the residential parking is a little bit unique among other sfmta projects the

neighborhood led rather than staff led and in that process the mta's job to be responsible for the identified by the neighbors so this particular area on the previous slide was under discussion by some set of neighbors for quite sometime and couple of years ago a discussion about the filling up project in terms of the public outreach process establishing nearby residential parking areas that helps with the parking lot and during that outreach process the sfmta explained the process i think at this point the neighboring neighbors started to gather petitions that's where we are at today significant coverage i want to thank everyone for facility those and

bringing the voices on the challenging topic together the significant covers with the blogs and other neighbors for the vehicles in the area there's a significant awareness of the proposal process for establishing the residential parking area is defined here it is typically resident initiated it doesn't have to be it grins with the communication on the topic and certain level is why the sfmta begins to look at the proposal by collecting data at this point the contrary sets out in our mta policies on the residential parking the mta has a shape a proposal and gather you further input on the

proposal requirements for a creation of a new residential permit parking area are here they deal with the minimum number of spaces the size of the ear the minimum levels of the occupancy in the area and an estimate of the vehicles and also a criteria that residential permit parking be considered on in an inadequate off-street parking salt lake city is to the area meets those predefined criteria as the proposal began to shape up as i mentioned further input from the neighbors two neighborhood groups north of panhandle helped to facilitate

the conversation and gather feedback i believe the representatives from those groups will be in attendance today i'll let them to speak about they're reading of the public support but my understanding is that the larger neighborhood groups are in support of this proposal but that self-mean there's not a lot of conversation can respond better to the neighbors in the future we've heard a lot of concerns about the process that are listed here and our you know we share the interests and further evaluating and making improvements one example of that we have heard in the area there's a lot of churches in the panhandle area whether the residential parking will interfere with the church

parking did during the daytime is didn't effect the morning activities but there are a number of churches that meet on week days that's the - we're in the process of tracking down information working with the churches when those activities are take place and what their transitioning are so one of the many conversations we're going to continue to really make sure we understand how remain permit parking impacts all neighbors we courage going forward with the proposal none of the concerns raised where we've had to identify as quick fixes that can be identified alongside the

proposal it is waerntd future discussion and wonderful ideas raised the sfmta as mentioned earlier received a federal grant to study the residential permit program and circling driving to have neighborhoods to identify the program work better as well it works nicely with the work on the topic we expect it to be improvement the proposal before you today has some sort of envelopes down the line for the residential permit for the change is real and the parking is challenging we can say with certainty it will affiliate some

bp the neighborhood association took issue with this bus parking is so tight there and they relied on the elms of the curbs to park their cars the other thing we looked at was the fact that alamo square didn't necessarily have a large number of people like delores or on the parks it is toured and tense players and people walking their dogs and not large crowds so actually the need for parking around the park was lower so we negotiated we came to a coincidence to have it restored so 6 of the 8 sectors r vp and the remaining two sects be two
