8:17 pm
gastrogarbage cans or a single homeless person passed out on the street and didn't see a lot of sirens i heard one siren i would think with all the brittle seniors you'd have more medical responses we've is a different situation i'm not naive enough to think that the entire place 1.5 million people live in phoenix that makes it the largest sixth city in the united states what was instructed i was mostly in scottsdale the equal to our union square and perhaps parts of the mission district where everyone goes if theres shopping or going for hotels if
8:18 pm
they're going to entertainment they don't do anything in phoenix not much in downtown phoenix everything is in scott's daily and that's the area that people derive their impressions of what the phoenix area is and what they derive their impressions of us hopefully, we'll work on some of the items i'd like to not see in san francisco as they have been able to do for one reason or another in scott's daily and presuming other parts of that general metropolitan area i was encouraged to read while i was away mayor ed lee had a press conference and spoke about the triage center for homeless and in support of the housing it is a great first step if we can
8:19 pm
provide and begin to have rules and have treatment you know will begin to solve some of the problems we have because no one t is benefiting most importantly the people that are the victims of this situation and i think this is really a step in the right direction one other thing that keep that in mind came to mind while i was in that area i read in the paper that was this talk somewhat facetious talk about housing in san francisco but i think there is some merit in that the reason why housing costs are a lot less in marriott phoenix is the reason we grew in 196050 we had land available they built further and further out and in 1960 we built certainly we don't have enough land to meet the
8:20 pm
housing needs so i think we should take into consideration all the land that san francisco owns in alameda and san mateo counties which or has control over because this would be an ideal place to look at not only affordable housing but market rate you housing all types of housing to fulfill our needs to try to think we can build within the 346 square miles of san francisco there could be a case that the housing on the land should count towards the quiets that san francisco should build as part of meeting the housing demand alameda county gets credit for housing built east of livermore it typically one of
8:21 pm
the reasons their satisfying their affordable housing goals even the maurlt housing built there it is low enough to get the one hundred and 20 per actually, we learned a long time we couldn't put an airport or water system here the jail here there is only so much land one of the solutions for the housing plan to look at some of the los angeles police department we have control over identifiable we have to have the consent under the communities i know that san francisco land has been used for housing in the pleasantville area it was privately bltd built but the land was sold is to the developer by the city and they developed it i'm sure something like that could be work out and
8:22 pm
happy to be back and looking forward to today is meeting. >> good to have you back commissioner richards. >> i second that i'm happy too son saturday i've been knifed by the walk around to here the issues to get i guess the first-hand look at the concerns that have been from a housing point of view it coincided i'll let you know we've had this thing back and forth for the housing in the mission we need affordable housing and it is it seems to me like a goal i came across an article in the xooirm examiner this guy is a smart guy and opened my eyes both of those sides have a short-term problem to be addressed by a long-term
8:23 pm
solution they're trying to figure out how to bring the types together to solve the problem we need to think about in depth how we solve the problem by the time we get to the problems there is no solution jerold fitzgerald rodriguez is a good author. >> commissioner moore. >> working group the subcommittee on rules we met today, our first meeting we were discussing the items the first meeting we organized ourselves around the substantive discussions of the amendments of the guidelines of this jobs and made a good presentation we will come back to the full commission within the next month i'll say to report and submit a number of
8:24 pm
finding. >> thank you for your effort thank you. >> commissioners commissioners if there's nothing further to department matters 12 departments nominates. >> thank you one announcement i want to let you and the members of the public in response to the high demand for registration for short-term rentals we're holding a late evening on wednesday matrix 18 walk in only for that time period we're asking people not to make an appointment walk in during regular housing but wednesday from 4 to 7 in the department at 1650 mission we'll be taking appointment for registration for short-term rentals we received at that point a thousand phone calls from folks trying to register as
8:25 pm
and reminder folks too weeks ago it was important to note that registration you have to have a business license in hand before coming to the adopt depth to register. >> do you know mou how many permits have been applied for or granted. >> ross are two different numbers i think i don't have the numbers in front of me there's no the rage of 5 are 6 hundred a couple of hundred that have been issued and several more hundred coming. >> okay. thank you. >> commissioners item 13 past event and board of appeals and the preservation commission no hearing for the board of appeals nor one for the historic preservation commission. >> just me. >> good afternoon, commissioners aaron star

8:30 pm
