7:30 am
we've done shy of 8 thousand passengers that came on board now here's our ridership numbers it shows a typical curve that goes for a year at this point we did in august september was filling strong and october came around and the combination of bad weather and mechanic issues we had to make a choice and put some of the taxi boats over to another company because they were funding the entire boat human resources here's where the people are getting open mostly at pier one and a half and a lot of them are doing pier trips pier 39 we got the letter of sense or acceptance a regular stop in the next thirty days here's where they're getting off
7:31 am
from pier one and a half and fisherman's wharf it used to be no one would come from high street pier until the signage got improved that's made a huge difference this is an interesting figure people are 50/50 in terms of come back to us we've not lost anyone and never came back to see use it surprise me i imagine people will wonder off this is the figure i'm interested in the total capacity the full button is 1-800 people we do many trips 7 thousand people per month for 84 thousand a year that's one boat if we do double boating i want to know from the captains that's the
7:32 am
average capacity right now 83 percent breakdown by most the yellow shows you the ridership and the black the potential passengers now all of that black actually means we ran a boat during that period of time on the water expecting a passenger if we're going to have to have dependable services this is a little strong company i created a unique model in several of my other businesses we have a unique gross profit sharing company my captains ghetto 40 percent of the receipt by itself company our market people get 40 percent and 40 percent to the operations that is allowing one button business 5 thousand passengers a year to go to 35 thousand passengers in
7:33 am
'03 years everybody works together and has a piece of the pie our business predictions we thought we'd get less than a thousand passengers i thought first year yellow both the and third year we'll interesting have to have more we exceed that our second year goal 50 passengers per day and we started getting return on the investment or 18 thousand passengers more importantly right now we need to have 10 to 18 boats have you ever had your deposition taken to fulfill the needs of technique waterway and the third year we'll get the numbers of demanded our company we set it up in order to do that that was one of
7:34 am
the mandate that was put out we owe less than $1,500 thank you put about 4 hundred thousand last year we're very, very if i am wrong r stronger with our fiscal foundation we're available for martha and innovation and experiencetion and frankly whether a startup period time as it stands the company needs 15 thousand people a dye to break the operational costs i'd like to get modest money back one day (laughter). >> to the fleet this is a taxi all the boos boats are named little taxi that is little taxi two the sister ship that's currently in san rule of law and coming out of cosmetic a pretty little thing we gave to the captains and they bet beat it up
7:35 am
i was looking for a sustainable model we can buy multiple of them they all went off the market we want to get more this is little taxi four a executed little boat seats 20 people fortunately unfortunately, the manufacturers didn't pilot it correct the little wliet boat we sent it to a boat manufacturers and had them strip off the yellow that is our taxi 5 and technique 6 is not purposed but i'll be flying back to baltimore and hope we can buy this one and several others our immediate development we have great it guys we've learned from people smaller than me
7:36 am
putting together a website that's cool over here this is what i see on my phone everyday and the champions know they get a call from me why they are seeing sea lions and not on the route i get this standpoint tracking every 5 minutes one of the things the it you guys want to raise your hand they created a program that eventually people will touch a bottom and read it in every language you can print it out in japanese or korean or spanish to help people get around the city i don't want a lot of the captains that came up with the marine rights i created a scholarship programs and
7:37 am
mentorship to create our first generation of water taxi operators we get to teach them my own bad hadn't i got to give kudos to captain george he saved an individual that jumped off a peer but captain bryan got awarded for stepping in and doing better than the medical people to less than a seizure patient i've got to tend he said it i'm not showing the christmas party but the it staff want you to have the joy we experience everyday out in the water i thank you.
7:38 am
>> so i'd like to know where you got the motion i'd like to know where you got the notion i'd like to know where you got the notion i'd like to know where you got the notion don't rock the boat don't rescue the button baby. >> don't tip the boat over don't rock the boat don't rock the boat don't rock the boat don't rock the boat. >> thank you. >> okay go well, i'd like to -
7:39 am
(clapping.) that that concludes my presentation. thank you to taylor lewis and dave thomas with the san francisco water taxi and offer up the opportunity for us to answer questions either myself or dave or taylor from the commission if you have anything please let us know. >> why not take public comment i have captain ray. >> well, good evening president and commissioners, staff monique i'd like to say thank you for the opportunity to come up here and address the commission without having to complain about mission bay anything about major problems not bay and the port we don't have any problems i want
7:40 am
to say that taylor and i have working hard to put together a unique company that is providing good reasonable jobs so for people working on the water and to provide the extra effort it takes to going forward and making sure those folks are taken care of 6 and train the employees and taylor retrains them i want to thank you very much for the support you've given to both our taxi companies we're looking for a little bit ever help with the expansion of the landing i know you have some on the boxes the signage was great we could use more of that i don't care the police cars on the hungers situation but it is astronomical if there is a way to look at the insurance requirement for the smaller vessels that will probably be a
7:41 am
help to both operators so again thank you very much for the ability to address you both bye. >> other public comment seeing none, public comment is closed commissioners. >> commissioner woo ho. >> thank you this is an area that i had a lot of interest if in i know that people hear me advocate and you're going water motor transport it really works so this is one of the areas i'm very interested in and it seems like we'll have great presentations i appreciate them their focus is different obviously thailand with the local commute and before or after the water taxis you're dealing e dealing with tourists it seems to me and it is good
7:42 am
you have your own particular toward to grow in any direction tiled see more starting off in thailand and what works for taxi answered those questions for thailand do you have the data you know how often you get repeat customers in terms of because hunching hunch of it is repeat versus new customers your focused on the commute and more of the local events, etc. you have a lot of expansion opportunity and the demand is over time. >> our local ridership will return 85 to 95 percent over 12 house house accounts that the riders can be serviced our entire ridership community is in the marin county ear in terms of
7:43 am
the communities and all of them while we're technology you can call and we're a couple degrees away in terms of our new services and how we are actually getting people outside of the norms there's not enough evidence at this point to be able to tell you if their come back at the junctions in the middle of winter and our marketing has not day viewed yet maybe we'll be able to qualify our ridership. >> you've answered my second question how the word is getting out obviously you're using the yacht club i'll be interested in a water taxi ride but it sound like you've addressed corporate
7:44 am
and you use facebook and others what sort of 345k9 media are you going to use. >> that's a great question there is a quick answer but for maritime development it didn't allow newcomers and other development businesses so currently, we go through channels like our union and the chamber of commerce we work to get a lot of ridership in the bay area discoveries the hesitation outlets to get people to understand the waterway but our goals to rehealth the younger generation to utilize the ridership we have outreach to the young don't drink and
7:45 am
drive but through the partnership hotels and yacht clubs and restaurant and the port and other union entities that help us market going forward we've engaged a new firm to help us got the word out to trick people utilizing outside of the scope of ridership from the yacht clubs or the different municipalities so you'll see o whether through social media or different stories like the sierra club or bay area other events our branding is simple and the idea to be able to pass our branding on different ideas around the community to integrate we've strategize positions ours to pigged the existing loads based on the events when the giants come and pier 40 is an easier marketing tool it's efficient we're about
7:46 am
efficiency and transitioning people saving people time and the mobility that's why facebook has come back to us. >> that's my second question the biggest issue about the congestion on the embarcadero with the fact that traffic is getting worse on the waterfront so trying to affiliate also the other 101 and 280 is my interests is trying to 1st district how to alleviate so facebook is going to continue to look at water transport with their employees is that pilot going to continue. >> the pilot ended due to the very well to the that junction going forward we reengaged the conversation and we'll we can't tell you the scope of that working with the cliendz but getting goal is what we've seen
7:47 am
and thailand is a different logical timeline with the so thankful hired us to run the service not as a gymic but as much in the best interests of the marketing we want to be embedded. >> i'm going to ask one more question and i'll let the other commissioners we saw a capacity in your san francisco water taxi what is your capacity at this point with all the barriers and how will you keep were you our ultimatetion factor. >> its strategic it depends on demand wiesh overwhelmed with the demands we're organizing them based on the best mode of transportation for the population at large. >> based on the similar figures
7:48 am
we've seen. >> from the routetion is about 35 percent matt haney now the new boats people are getting on we're driving them to the beating boat and it helps to fill the boat on its own it is easy you can't purchase time it is logic. >> so the timing of when you need to add more boats. >> this is when the service what about sustainableable as a maritime entity we're not going to flood the bay with a course of logistics to save it meaning the partnership we've engaged including the port we educate once i see sustainable ridership i'll add another vessel it's hand in hand we're doing the best to fill the boat to
7:49 am
facilitate the needed of the transportation demands if this psyches our goal to add a sister it is important to us. >> maritime to represent the clean and safety environment so hopefully by string our goal. >> to the other commissioners. >> so those are great questions there what percentage would you say commuters would be the percentage of passengers. >> our commuter service we have to dance the dedicate so it's for the corporate aspect that is 6 months of daily usage as a high demand the company we're working with and the service because of our lack of assets we did if the facilities if our
7:50 am
vessel now we have there and start selling the commuter service we'll capture a new boat sooner or later when it is offered it is full. >> okay. your in a position to on the new boat if needed. >> it's more based on what makes sense to the maritime operation so if the service we move one knot a minute so it is really a joint effort between the education for the city to insure to get another boat if the demand warrant it i can get it. >> i understand thank you commissioner brandon. >> i just want to thank for such a wonderful presentation i'm happening happy to see you're both successful and hopefully we'll help them whatever way we can with our continued growth month of my
7:51 am
questions have been answered with sustainability so thank you very much. >> thank you. >> commissioner adams. >> yeah. i think this is a good program unify answered the questions two different styles and philosophies we have over 3 million passengers a year that used the ferries now adding the water taxis that compliments what we have in the city and people to be able to take those weigh the taxis and go here and there the businesses will increase i agree when the demand comes you'll bring on more boats i remember 10 years ago when i went on a water taxi i respect in sidney awe transmittal i know that commissioner woo ho when she was president she was 30u7b9d away and as commissioner
7:52 am
we decided to move forward and monique and staff i'm pleased and hope to build on it to get more passengers in the bay area to have this as a mode of transportation thank you. >> i echo the comments of my colleagues i'm thrilled above you vsz have been doing well and seeing increases in ridership obviously i'd like to see that go up more a chicagoan chicken and egging in terms of expanding our ridership to the extent if there's anything we can do it facilitate martha e getting the word out to increase that but we all do better when it occurs one of the things i've found i've mentioned the existence of
7:53 am
water taxis and leave people are not aware of the existence so i think that would be nice to partner with the various organizations with the city tied to the tourism industry and you've done whether or not a lot of with corporate connection by perhaps more capitalization created for rapidly as a personal note i attended an event where they offend transportation service over to marin and people railroad raving about it and the host for the party were upset they were so anxious to get open the boat they wanted to leave the party early they couldn't say enough nice things about the events for everyone that came over on the button. >> happen to serve.

i'm jim with the ports maritime division to talk about pier 96 and request our authorization to ask for a proposal to solicit a terminal developer and operator for the deck operator at pier 96 in terms of the opportunity we got a large waterside vacate water maritime facility at pier 96 it creates a maritime revenue for the port and received a number of expressions we want to issue a request for parole to test the market and try to identify the best opportunity for the port arrest pier 96 i mean is in the portsdz maritime industrial complex it has excellent water or industrial

transportation access including the water and rail and truck access pier 96 is in the bottom of the slide in front of ever you here circled by red this is an aerial view with the gunman try trains and along cargo way and the back land adjacent to that you'll see the concrete bast plan sites not right to create some context rfp site we have 15 acres of paved land sloongd the water with an opportunity to add 15 plus acres adjacent to it to create a potential opportunity of thirty to 32 acres along pier
7:57 am
96 this shows the pier 96 site from the waterside by the berth this actually is a copy of the brochure that the port staff put together to promote the pier 96 site i'd like to go ahead and allude to my colleague now retired colleague jay the ports new retires rock star those are jay's hands he's holding a piece of iron ore he left of the this behind as part of his retirement thank you jay and like to enter this into evidence as exhibit a (laughter). >> for those who can't see it it has a port affixed to the

front. >> this is a magazine it's i've learned from jay iron objection acid it is month ago nerve you'll see that hold the magnet feel how heavy it is a heavy rock so those are jay's hands he went up to outside of love lock nevada to retrieve that iron ore is the mine commodity to target to start with it really fits our facility quite well and the special attribute for one thing noting non-intoxication and non-hazardous it is not harmful to the environment and quite heavy so it requires fairly deepwater port facilities to
7:59 am
accommodate the leaguer ships to make is viable to ship it and again thanks to jay who's managed to keep pier 96 drenld to 40 feet it's an attractive port to handle iron ore and consider others amenity i will say not to entertain fossil fuel and petroleum some of the attributes of pier 96 a larger vacant handling facility it is approximately thirty acres at and near the water to build a facility facility has on dock rail assess two tail trucks that go out to pier 96 and enough space at the

pier to actually enhance and add on to the whale infrastructure eaten geotech an engineering study the port commissions it is economically and geotechnically feasible to build a facility that is economic at the site the engineering firm i've mentioned they came duo to us as part of the engineering design or engineering study with a concept design of a facility we could potentially build another pier 96 the loop track from the rail generated we're connecting the two trails at the warrant those will connect the tracks to allow for the efficient movement of trains out to pier 96 to unload and load their ore and get
