given the hiv and the aids emancipation proclamation he desk people are living longer and that's a very, very good thing it creates challenges many challenges around seniors in general in terms of making sure that people live in dignity and remain part of the community there are specific challenges that lgbt seniors face they are less likely to have adult children to care for them and likely to not be near their bio california family more likely to have gone through life with a stigma and isolation with the discrimination we need to make sure we are trooth the specific needs of our lgbt seniors and

treating them with complete respect and embracing them in 2012, we passed legislation to create the lgbt aging task force that task force did terrific of e treveng work and produced a very, very good result and the lgbt seniors and making a number of recommendation for the board of supervisors and for the city departments to take to address those needs and this is the first item not the last but definitely the first, this legislation is a bill of rights for lgbt residences long term car facilities whether nursing homes or another long term care facilities putting in place specific protections for the landlord/tenant seniors it is currently illegal under state

law to discriminate against them this puts in place a much more specific requirement and protections to make sure those falthsz as well as the seniors and families understand when was expected of the facilities that are working with lpt seniors the legislation does a number of things for example requires the facilities to speth designate a liaison that under goes training and requires the facility to respect the pronoun of their choice eye requires two residents to share a room and for bids the redetainment of another residents sexual origins or identity to have appropriate

medical door and requires did residents use restrooms available for other gender identity and those are a few of the requirements in the legislation the legislation will provide a grieved persons with the right to seek investigation and mitigation with a human rights commission and publish a mantel in etcetera with the law and the legislation will create a private right of action to importing their rights there this legislation the legislation it designed not only to protect the lgbt seniors but giving them the tools and the family members advocates i want to note that we have received strong support for the legislation including national center for lesbian rights and
