e someone that needs no introduction i think along with supervisor kim the two are incredibly committed to making that city for all as the mayor likes to say a champion of affordable housing for many, many years has worked in this field as a participation and now as an elected it official and policymaker he is something that i think made it clear this is a huge priority not only in this term with that i want to introduce mayor ed lee (clapping). >> thank you doug doug in many ways this is an honor of you and certainly of our wonderful combination between you and st. anthony's i want to be here because i've known vourgz and want to say thank you to jane kim we both

continue this record pace of cutting ribbons and opening doors of opportunity and praising our developers our nonprofits our service provides in this community it wasn't long ago that st. anthony's opened their brand new kitchen more than that a kitchen their entire services a whole floor was being created along with a brand new food center in this neighborhood and we pointed out at this time we pointed to this housing side as the one i wanted to get to as soon as as it was ready to get open you have to be at least 62 year-olds well, i'm 62 this year laura i joined the ranks of other seniors wanting to make sure that our city is welcome to everyone this is an incredible

center over 90 brand new units in the heart of one of the most challenging afterwards our city i know that supervisor kim knows that we've been at oscar pistorius were time after time the needs were identified and this city with its strong foundation can do more and more to help and combine more and more this incredible combination of the stoilgdz and also mercy hours you could also expect they'll produce quality good types of housing for the seniors that as larry said earlier represent the respect that is deserved that is this project we have in your sights the opening of another senior housing in the bayview and in the western edition all appropriately named

as well but i want to be here personally i've known and worked with vieira over thirty years when i began a attorney she was there asia annie is here in her honor i know all the senior housing and services from joint powers authority from our own regional go people who have worked with vieira over many, many, many decades and it is unquestionable she was dedicated i wanted to be here in praise and her daughter's may know my name was mentioned in the household vieira and i go back the first when she asked me to attention. if to eviction and food and health and housing were you'll part of her entire life for over thirty years when we

placed her on the emigrated rights commission it was all about civic engagement and her tenant she was such a strong advocate for immigration she joined me last year to make sure i got out to new york and joined the other mayors to talk about ignition she was there to continue to advocate there were times she brought the air tank and she never wanted to miss a beat so i wanted to be here to praise her and to let us u you know that one of the reasons that drives me so openly supportive of housing is people like her she will consciously be in my memory and never forget the movement we started about the housing and the seniors and immigration and advocacy for the poor

that has been her mantra i want to honor her with every single day that occupied this office of san francisco it's her dna that should be here the name of that for the senior housing and the entities that were put together i'm looking at bobby think that the brothers they've got it their dna in this and other projects throughout the city we're going to do more in fact this is what i know vieira will say mayor ed lee you've got to do more i'm planning to put more in the budget i know that last year's budget vieira and annie said you have to diesel with food security seniors are having a hard time it can't be the food centers but make sure their better endo you do we put money into the food security for

seniors in particular because costs were going up drastically a plate of healthy food was used to be one dollar 050 and people can get that but now four or $5 so with we have to make sure the services were there and housing is incredible part of that that are but all to say that everybody in this city is stepping with the affordability agenda prosperity agenda i don't want to miss an opportunity to put together the kind of talent that's been demonstrated here and build buildings but rehab them sworn testimony with i don't want to rebuild to replies lost housing we're rehabilitating housing as well where hud has helped they've supported our rad program that's

going to authorize some 6 thousand units to be rehabbed in the entire city y while we gain additional housing i need not remind you of a population that is more senior as time comes with the affordability of the city becoming more and more out of reach i have to giving me get to an aggressive housing agenda i hope your not only here to celebrate but join me in november to pass a housing bond to make sure we continue an aggressive affordability of housing we're not only going to do that i've asked all the vendors in the city to join me and do a call i don't even ask them for money i should have i skmd asked them to call each of their banks the institutions

that fund their market rate housing they have investor conversation tell the banks to call mayor ed lee and give him your best below market rate you have so we can create an accelerator fund so we we announce a project we can accelerate that ability hud liekdz to see that they love our choice neighborhood to accelerate those projects go work it is partly giving credit where the money is right now our households is because people needs it can't wait years at the same time i'm not not allowing our seniors to be part of evictions we were in sacramento to carve out ellis act evictions

as supervisor kim i'm getting more and more excited as people say i've got land that is underutilized let's grab it and get our stabilization funds to buy down those rent control units not a plagiarized for slack later we can only do it if we have the collaborative government it licenses to our citizens demand we took it perp to act i'll continue to do that as long as i'm mayor and even beyond age 62 hopefully, we have more of those sites made and i've already identified sites we can get our hands on in fact i've shocked one of the church, i called them up wheaten do you do besides the parking lot they're saying you're

foundation of the building i'm really glad we have that memory of her and those pictures of her thank you for naming that building after our mom it really is fantastic culmination of her work and her dedication this building embodies so much of what she worked for and fought for and inside this buildings are the residents and the people the residents the seniors a that's who she worked for and cared about and we told the story at her memorial on her way to intensive care on the last days of her life she took the list of potential residents there's a long list a printout

of the lottery and she want to review the list because like i said, the people are what meandered the most to her she also encouraged us to volunteer so as a teacher i've brought some of the fifth graders to the community service and glad memorial i really appreciate having this place to continue to serve to bring evan is serve and volunteer (clapping) and keblg with his grandma this is truly we believe a perfect way to memorialize vieira and better than any gravestone thank you
