wish to address the board of education tonight, you need to complete a speaker card prior to the item being called and presented to executive assistant ms. casco according to the rules and regulations speaker cards will not be accepted for an item before the board and next the superintendent report truth. >> thank you, dr. murase i'd like to talk about the stated core mass implementation and common core algebra class one here in san francisco as an yicht on april 11th the san francisco unified school district administered the cc ss algebra eligibility came to

seven hundred students will will be 9 the grader for standards in grade a math if a student passes the examine they'll be placed in dbi try in ninth grade if not proficient they'll be enrolled in algebra one invocation it was in bop high school and combooel and student tested at 9 o'clock and all students were in clamor within one test proximate causeer it was expected the examine would take two and a half hours so the students can show what they knew it ran for

over 4 hours few students implemented it in over one hour most took two or three hours there were less than 5 students when we called the examine time and left campus the validation can say 7 open-end problems that students showed their work each the problems and the associated problems had 10 thousand students and has shown before valet each has a quote/unquote cut score and the test has a whole also has an associated cut score the items were chosen by the common core with their alignment to the standards i wanted to be clear not chosen by people about knew the thoshz chosen by the actual authorizes

of the standards for meant the exams will be scored in early may by smos who will participate in expensive training how to score the tests it had been led by a ph.d math person for mathematician resident each item will be scored twice and if a discriminatory it will be settled by the folks that are in attention additional as an added procrastination 5 percent of the examines will be randomly scored the lawrence halls of scientific and the california office of president to valid the scoring members of your san francisco unified school district will be in at the scene for the whole

francisco unified school district will deploy additional math coaches in support of math teaches to help with the common core and differentiation for students that is necessary in addition to that number two a reallocation of resources to target the class sizes in the eight common core math sclaz from 22 to 24 students keep in mind this is a significant investment but will significantly reduce the class sizes of anywhere from 32 to 34 students that's a significant reduction because we understand that our teachers need to have smaller sizes to make that transition in about mathematics and number 3 the san francisco unified school district and i are accountable for results as part of the transition therefore i want to pub state we've set

the following goals number one by the end of the 2018 we'll reduce the number of students 0 needing to take algebra or geometry 2 by restraining order percent from the numbers in 2013 and number 2 by the end of 2018 we'll reduce the number of students passed the math courses i want to be clear the fourth year there are postal bra courses we'll increase the numbers of students are a c or better by 10 percent and finally by the end of the 2018 school year we'll increase the african-american and latino students that took the placement cola's we want to make sure our public knows we're accountable but resolute that the common ero

core is the next generation no more than or not only for san francisco but to be competitive here 2340 in san francisco and land jobs in the steve richie and high wage industries here in san francisco ladies and gentlemen, i am very, very happy to announce that the san francisco unified school district student nutrition services has been working diligently to not only approve the school good or food but more students getting food any student that hadn't eaten a meal is less able to participate in class every sfusd schools offer free breakfast before now only 9 percent were take advantage of the food served so we've done something about that we've

learned that eating in the cafe before school can be socially soliciting and create the expression that a child that poor on top of many families structural to get themselves or their children to school for a meal we noted to take a different approach over the last two years we change how we get breakfast into the hands of students including the opportunity for students having to have a meal in class can i 149 to the teachers this is an equality issue and work out the kings to help our teachers to do this in the day i say this because i couldn't be more provide this morning i was privileged to be a guest added balboa park high school the one

moisten accounting breakfast was served we are approaching 90 percent of students taking advantage of breakfast i was happy to be there for the microwaveth breakfast in the teacher a shout out out to the teacher she has it down that luck student in her class that had the one admitting breakfast had the golden tickets there was no candy factory associated with that this lucky student received movie tickets i was thrilled to celebrate that she is the one admitting to be the breakfast student and got the golden ticket worth the price of four tickets to the movie of her crisis i want to congratulate all the hardworking administers

sites and are being funded i'm going to ask our superintendant for the social justice and the president of the unit san francisco mr. dennis kelly to share a few remarks before we hand out certificates and money. >> good evening, commissioners and community members for our superintendent q ta calls for recognizing our demonstrating the impact in innovation wards with in partnerships are the san francisco we launched the program last year and this resolution the awards in two categories the first is the impact awards to recognize schools that are implementing effective practices as outlined in our strategy plan that impact

the lives and the sick to recognize the school applications in the recognize for initiative practices that dare to achieve some the aspects called out for vision 2025 tonight we will you been recognizing schools more than 55 applications from more than thirty schools they had the option to apply in into an award i want to recognize that was a committee of 7 members which included included representatives from u sf and the opted administrators and the q t e a oversight committee that participated in a blind review process to select those winners i want to shedded to another individual that maintained the
