school to meet the needs of the growing numberoffs families. a renewed focus on transtd infrastructure and state of the art ucsf research facilities. all these recognize mission bay is not only a vibrant community but sets the standard for neighbored izthe city. mission bay and south beach residence are highly engaged and i want to recognize edlee and also the mayor of mission bay, curen woods and your cantbution to the mission bay cac fl many years. thank you. they care deeply about public safety and they were very org inanized around this development and the redistricting process. i want to thank our police chief greg sir and the police commissioners here today for

earthquake safety and emergency response bond that as you heard was approvaled in 20s tent 10. while this project is stlshly about police services, the friar department is also fundsing approved by voters. that bond and the second set of funding approved last year in 2014 dedicated more 150 million dollars to neighborhood fire houses across the city. including in the project is the restoration of the fire state 30 and that is now the home of the fire departments bureau of investigation, but it is also a community space where the neighbors here can use for meetings. at this time please welcome [inaudible] white to say a few words. >> good morning and well to

looking at that is behind many of you was able to be cherished and kept. it is a beautiful condition of the rich history and o thf department and the new. this fs station 30 in the mid70 was defunded and [inaudible] until construction on this building. now we repurposed to 2450 serve the community and house the bureau fire investigation also known as the arson task force. it wouldn't have been possible without the 79 percent voter approval back in 2010. san franciscan have always prioritized public saeftd and we are grateful for that t. is a great time to celebrate this biltding. we are looking at april 18 as a commemoration of earthquake and fire. it is a great message to open the building and committed to product the sit phrns as well as those that visit the city.

street. a good partner in the project is the arts commission and to to champion these instullation squz talk about some of the art i ask the director tom [inaudible] to come say a few words. >> thank you mohammed and all the partners on the projict. the fire and police department, congrtulations on this beautiful building and all your partner shb and making this a suck siss. i want to mayor lee and board of supervisors for the on going championship for the arts in san francisco and making sure the arts are a part affevery naird. san francisco led the nation in 1969 by passing a ort ord nns that dedicated 2 percent of every public infrastructure to art. that caught on across the country and now have many of the same ordinances. we are able to lead as we on do in san

francisco in the wonderful in which we integrate the arts. today we celebrate 2 addition thooz the art collection. behind inside the lobby is the [inaudible] fallen police officers entitled spiral of gratitude bytia mon[inaudible] it it combines the element of glass, sky and light together with the written word. the text on the back wall reads, look up, their courage shines. it draws peoples eye to the sky light above evoking a re och light of all those who enter. the 16 foot cylinder is inscribed with a poem written by a local poet, margo perron. is margo here today? let's give a round for margo perron. margo worked closely with the

artsest and member thofz bay area [inaudible] key in developing this work. the poem is written based on interviews with families and colleagues of fallen officers. unforfinately mr. oughty and brook cannot be here because they rin new york, but mr. perron is here and would like to thank the members of bay leaf for this memorial. i invite you to read the complete text of the poem located on the wall in the lobby. mr. [inaudible] the artist is known for video projection work. this commission was [inaudible] thank you for the camtle planning committee. we are doing our best to make it affordable to maintain over a period of time. he exceeded in creating a nob nab experience with glass. the art work changes throughout the day dependent on the weather and position of the sun. you see

on the wall, the beautiful lights light up against the waum so it is a wonderful work. in the afternoon i mentioned it is on the back of the wall thmpt second work we want to acknowledge is by a local artist in san francisco, paul causs. is paul here today? there is paul. paul's work first responder plaza is when you walk on the corner you can take a look. he is inspired by the work of fire and police department. set out to for fr a inviting space [inaudible] the applauseey features 3 icons. iconfer, a bell and star or as mr. cosdescribed them, the 3 tenors sharing one stage thmpt focal point is the 21 thousand pound all is well bell. the bell represents the fire department and ringz throw

times each day at noon letting everyone know all is well and should be timed very shortly. the second icon is the polished sev pointed granite star representing the police department 7 core value, truth, justice, 40itude, temperance, prudeants, tolerance and brotherhood. the third and last essential design element is the serbian spruce tree was serves a as natural flag pole. on behalf of the arts commission i want foothank sth artist to fr creating these works of art we dedicate today into the civic art collection. let's give it a round of applause. lastly i want to thank everyone at the arts commission who made this possible jd belltram and [inaudible] as well as the

captain john goldburg who was really the go between public works and the police department and without him i think we will not be able to get many of the issues resolved. i appreciate all his energy and work. john goldburg >> of course sam [inaudible] who was the project manager who is handsling all the nob nub and all detail oz thf project from the beginning and all the work that made this project possible. sam chewy. finally, i now get to turn over to the person in charge of this new building. he has been a central partner in this project the now and current primary occupant of the new police head quarter squz couldn't be happier about turning the keys over to him and his staff, our

the block. that is all that was here and sometimes we find out early in the mornings and that is a different story. the previous speaker spoke about robustness technology and art, but one thing that is cool about this bilgding is we also have video remote interpretings here at southern police station as we celebrate the american with disabilities these [inaudible] through use for interpreter for those limited english speaking or hearing impaired. people come to nob flaub request information are better served through the use of the vri software program and a application like skype or face time where you can come in and talk to someone nase to

is the palace too so we'll call it peoples palace south. when the hall of justice was on kerny street was rebuilt in 1912. when the t moved to bryant street in 71 mayor jordan was there, which is wow! i was 2. that isn't a shock mr. mayor. i was 22. we only do this once every half a century or so and i'm the luck a one that gets to do it today. after today we'll preserve the cities there in 1961 we'll use the cut the ruben and i'm the last speaker so everyone can apply the irish paint after this, but we may do it with a laser. what this building is about, it is about the many people to whom generations of san francisco police officers and nire foirthers will be

french grateful. people that had the vision for this head quarters and made it happen, elected leaders who supported the proposal and got it on the ballot, the voters of san francisco who aproveed that bond, the architects engineers and consultant who gave imprissive form to that theory, a construction team and see frank is there. he told me this building would be open on mibirth day novembero i have a lunch coming. the artist and families of the fallen officers that helped us with all this art and john goldburg for making sure bay leaf and the families had the influence to make it perfect because it is just so. we never want to lose track of those people who made the ultimate sacrifice. and the too the neighbors who i will beg for a little more

patient as we get-make ourselves so we get it here in the neighborhood. they have shown such patience through construction, welcomeedtuse the neighborhood so i beg just a little more patience as we get used to being here. we have a new home to best serve our community because it is all about the people here in san francisco. this building means that no matter what, your police department no matter what, your police department will be able to respond and provide assistance to him too, as needed which is what the san francisco police department is all about. it is about helping people every time all the time regardless. so, with that, believe it or not i think we are done.

located in the heart of this district. it offers a view of the downtown skyline the bay bridge, and the east bay. it is one of the best kept secrets in the city. it is hardly ever crowded. on any given day, you will run into a few locals. bought a 37 bus to get there without any parking worries. for legged friends can run freely. there is also a patch of grass for the small box. >> it is a great place. it is a wonderful place to have these kinds of parks. that dog owners appreciate it. >> take time to notice of the wildfires that are on the grassland and keep your head out on the lookout for hawks and other bird life. be sure to take your camera and be prepared to take a view of the city will not forget.

it has a beautiful red rock formations. you could watch the sunrise over the bay. this is another one of our great lookouts. we are at mount davidson. 928 feet. this is the place for you to bring someone special. to not forget that dogs and enjoy all of the pathways and greenery that surrounds you. it provides a peaceful oasis of open space and great hiking trails. the spectacular view offers a perfect place to watch the sunrise or sunset with someone you love. >> it is a good place to get away from the hectic life of the city. come up here and listen to nature, i get some fresh air.

that view is fantastic. >> where sturdy shoes . hikers get the feeling of being in a rain forest. mount davidson is also a great place to escape the noise and the bustle of the city. take the 36 bus and it will drop you at the entrance. it is quite a hike to the top but the view is worth every step. this is the place to bring that someone special. golden gate park's largest body of water is an enchanting place. is a popular spot for paddling around in boats, which can be rented. created in 1893, it was designed

for these your boating -- for leisure boating. it is named for the wild strawberries that once flourished. there is also a waterfall, two bridges and trails the climb to the summit, the highest point at more than four hundred feet. you can catch glimpses of the western side of the city that make this hilltop a romantic look out. for public transit, i take the n train. the lad the ad -- lake is ada accessible. watch many ducks swans, and siegel's.

>> i enjoy the history. the diversity of nature that exists in such an urban city concrete streets cars we have this oasis of the natural environment. it reminds us of what the history was. >> there is a section for dogs and plenty of parking. transit is available on the 28 bus to get you very easily. the part is ada -- park is ada accessible. it is also a natural lake. this is your chance to stroll around the lake and let the kids run free. it also has many birds to watch. it is a place to find and appreciate what you -- a wonderful breath of fresh air.
