here at alice griffith i know that reverend walker talked about this i'm about making sure it happens tony salazar that said we have bumpy parts yeah. it is bumpy not only between him and me but everybody and the reason it has been bumpy at the beginning we're trying to are we're going to hold each other concoct before you we introduce new friends we've got to honor the old friends i remember working in the mayor's office and huddling gavin newsom to try to figure out when there was is so much negative blame where i

am blame for the past, present, and future it's going to be a struggle to get everybody together now we have the foundation and we held each other accountability and hiding was a great part because of leader pelosi and now it is secretary castro it's ophelia and the others that gave us the opportunity tony as we talked about choice neighborhood wow. being part of 5 cities in the country is get this grant we better hold each other acknowledge so we redid the r50e789 and ocii a brand new commission a fresh director and tiffany and friends in tab in that case that met with us and lavelle and the tenants association came in and all we

weighed in now, it's about deliver i'm happy to say we're going to go vertical today (clapping.) i know so many other parts of city going vertical why not bayview this is the austerity here we're going to try to do this with the involvement of people that have trained themselves to do it's not just rigor mortis we're rebuilding people's lives that's why i gave a call to mr. cook at apple yesterday to help people to allow people to work at the headquarters there everybody should be involved in redemption and restored justice this community has learned (clapping) for many, many years to fast forward this is why we've got new leaders it is about building

education and about taking advantage of transportation and about investing in people's lives to prop c and the children that are here as well rebuilding homes for all different incomes to people can choose to live here not that i was forced i choose to live here by the way, hold into our properties when this gives up people will be chu's to live here i'm excited we're working with all the different agencies i just met our acting captain with the boyer station she's going to help me recruit cadets because people need to change the candle stick bring in the youth for all folks to become police officers all the different languages and cultures this is the way to help

the culture like at the city hall we've affected the culture changes through the new lisp the puc and public works and everybody is working hard for our community i want to end by saying thank you thank you, thank you to the alice griffith tenants to the residents here for allowing us that we make the choice to invest in you you'll help us to make the city successful? a way forward this is why i do this everyone with president breed and commissioner cohen we'll invest in people first, i look forward to the ribbon cutting and the other celebrations you'll find me at many other grourgz in this neighborhood we've got a lot of work ahead of us thank you very much for being

came time to return to plaza east many of the people were not necessarily welcomed back with opened arms when i become a member of the san francisco redevelopment commission when fred blackstone was the pointing there was no question that if we were going to move forward with this project we will not displace one resident here (clapping) and that was so important to me and years later look at where we are and what we're about to do we have amazing residents that have been fighting the fight and asking the city when it the our 7, 8, 9 when you are going to do i appreciate the mayor it is not about making promises but fulfilling the old because of

the mayor and because of leader pelosi and because of commissioner cohen or supervisor in district 10 so many amazing people we're going to invest over $500 million over the next 3 years to roommate and rebuild all our public housing in san francisco (clapping) when i became a supervisor the mayor that's it held a traditionally meeting what's outdoor 3 priorities mr. mayor i said number one public housing he's like opposing okay. your second. >> number two public housing. >> number 3 public housing the condition that existed when i grew up in poubz sadly exists today, we have to do better at a city and make sure that the folks who live in those communities thrive and public

housing gave me an opportunity to live in a neighborhood full of people that were resilient and took care of of me i graduated tb college and made a commitment to make sure they had the same opportunities today is our day i'm landmarking to the rebuild and the lives that will change not only as building a new place but bring a new energy a new culture a new project a new day so alice griffith thank you (clapping.) >> thank you, president breed you're doing great the 15 percent rule next it gives me great honor to bring up our regional lady from the housing ophelia thank you (clapping.) thank you and what a great day

to be here in the bayview 3 and a half years ago i stood and announced that hud award the thirty and a half million dollars choice implementation grant i want to put that into prospective when hud made that announcement as a choice neighborhood was brand new san francisco has a redevelopment agency and many in the baseball world wrote off the san francisco giants because we won the 2010 world series today in california all the redevelopment agencies are a thing of the past but hud program is well established and we've funded $350 million invested in 12 major cities across the country the important, important it leveraged $2,100,700,000 and

you'll see the same here we you'll know how the world champions san francisco giants have faired they've hit it out of the park 3 times are we looking for the fourth? absolutely (clapping.) hud partnered are san francisco and how do they do that to hit it out of the park for families in public housing this is the 50 years of hud this is the corner stubborn of a new approach to public housing that is moving beyond the braishgz and traditional property lines to recognize we need to help the residents and the community to have to build you have to look at it outdoors and not within the property itself when hud designed this program we were in 3 core areas housing and people

and neighborhood and san francisco earned this through the participating that will tormentor this neighborhood by revisiting and leverage further high quality schools and early learning programs and public transportation and great access to employment opportunity and functioning services so for the residents we've referenced the champs for the neighborhood and the surrounding area has eaten for years inadequate housing and crimes and the economic stupidities it's time for us to make those issues things of the past the leadership that has been recognized here today we've gotten this far because of the leadership and with their continued support and the collective effort of everyone we'll make this come to frustratedtion i'm honored to represent the obama

administration and and long run said our president believes in what we're doing here and he had a quote i thought was perfect he said if poverty is a disease if affects the entire community failing schools and broken homes we can't treat those symptoms in sloiths we have to heal the whole community so for all of you to 3457b8g make this possible thank you and graktsz we have a lot of work to do but you came together to recognize the power to make this happy each other has helped person by person and house by house and neighborhood by neighborhood your commitment to the neighborhood overcoming barriers and more anything the characteristics of everyone

projects scombin with the residents brown they devote their 7, 8, 9 and energy and wounded be a success without their effort second i'd like to acknowledge the time and effort of the staff in project like this can take a a long time and the staff in san francisco have dedicated themselves to making this in a time of distinguishing resources for affordable housing and they've been innovative in pioneering the new programs it is not easy to be a pioneer with new federal or public sources and they've been admirable in their pursuant i'd like to recognize the participation of the city of san francisco there are if you cities in this country that invest in affordable housing the way san francisco does participate the

truly on how you were to be here with them we work at urban four and with the people of this community this is a great community i've learned to call double rock our going back job to support this community the residents and stakeholder here in the growth and department of their families and which were so that very, and will live well when complete all but beautiful physical development we've done our work here thus far within an array of san francisco stakeholders a starting with the folks that brought us here this gentleman here mr. blackwell doing the work we've joined hands with great partners the center for youth wellness and y cd

unrespectable and unified school district we love you the principle the principles at the schools they serve our kids as malcolm x we stand here not loan but the achievement and urban has been here a long time such seen hope and the hesitantcy and the using permission and the desperation and the pain we've seen the joy of this community as they waited for the change for this that's beginning now their children in the households over 3 hundred children 60 plus fragile seniors that waited for eubaited breath and on behalf of all of them i thank you

residents have not been idle but busy awhile waiting for job training one hundred parliaments of people in jobs from this community and more to come great labor groups like those that taken the residents will and the 88 residents that run the beautification in cleaning up their community because nobody can do that better over 50 seminaries celebrations and 36 monthly meeting in endless confuses our residents completed victor and renée and others have kept the belief earning our professional staff who are

have potrero hill and we'll the sunnyvale it's the largest pougz unit that is always forgotten it is in the southernmost part of the district we're here to say it wave of hope is not forbidden we'll deliver on all promises we've made largely inherit those but that's true what we do when on the one hand you are good you deliver and that's exactly what we're doing you have folks that are delivering and the people in the back they're coming together and saying we're not dipped by our short coming we're going to do rise up and claim our victory thank you, everyone for being
