from producing dance, theater, presenting music having a full- scale education program, and having more than 50,000 visitors in the building almost every year. a lot of our emerging artists to generate their first projects here, which is great. then we continue to try to support figuring out where those works can go. we have been blessed to have that work produced in new york going on to the edinburgh festival the warsaw theater festival. to me those are great things when you can watch artists who think there is nowhere else that might be interested in you being a woman of color and telling your story and then getting excited about it. that is our biggest accomplishment. having artists have become better artists. what is. sheri coming back to brava, here

years later and seeing personally my own evolution as an artist and thinker. the whole effort to put the chicano or indigenous woman's experience on center stage is in itself for euro-american theaters, a radical position. because of the state of theater it is a hard roll to hold up in institution. it is a hard road. i am looking at where we are 25 years later in the bay area looking at how hard it is for us to strive to keep our theater is going, etc. i like to think that i'm not struggling quite as hard personally, but what i mean by that, the intention, the commitment. particularly to produce works that would not be produced in other places, and also to really

nurture women of color artists. i think that is something that has not shifted for me in those 25 years, and it is good to see that brava remains committed to that kind of work. ♪ >> when people talk about the reflection of the community, we can only go from what we have on our staff. we have a south asian managing director, south african artistic director latino community out rich person. aside from the staff, the other people artists that we work with being a reflection of us yes the community is changing, but brava has always tried to be ahead of that trend. when i came in i tried to make it about the work that shows the eclectic mission district as well as serving the mission.

the competitive bidding policy, a real estate transaction between the port and teatro zinzanni. >> who is presenting on this item? anyone? item no. 2, thank you, sir, please come on up. >> thank you, chair cohen and supervisors wiener and kim. i am the department program manager with the port of san francisco. i am here recommending -- representing the port commission, requesting your consideration of a resolution authorizing the port to enter into negotiations with teatro destinani and their project tzk bredway, llc. to develop and lease portland with a boutique hotel and dinner theater. the resolution requests an

exemption from the competitive bidding policy set forth in administrative code section for the potential real estate transaction involving port property as seawall lots. i have a map showing the location of the site. it's right there at the corner of broadway and embarcadero. and it consists of just those two parcels. teatro zinzanni is a former tenant, beginning in 2011, it operated as a successful venue, combining dinner and theater at pier 27. during this period it welcomed many performing artists and close to a million customers.

and frequently partnered with charities. in 2011, the port asked teatro to determinant the lease for pier 27 and vacate the location at pier 27 to accommodate the america's cup and construction of the [speaker not understood] by state law the port is required to relocate tenants including teatro. after searching widely it became clear that the best location to keep teatro in san francisco was at port site seawall lot 324. a 1.4 acre site at broadway and embarcadero with picture being shown on the screen that currently operates a parking lot. in 2011, teatro conducted

extensive outreach to seek comments and address concerns about the site from community groups and stakeholders including the barbary coast neighborhood association, golden gate commons, chinese community development center, telegraph hill dwellers, golden gate tenants association and many others. seawall lot 324 is a permanent site along the embarcadero. some community groups and stakeholders indicated that they prefer for teatro to develop a project that would be a distinguished gateway between neighborhood -- between the neighborhood and the waterfront and chinatown. the community also requested the site to be developed in a manner consistent with the northeast waterfront historic district in terms of architectural characters, zoning and building massing.

to be responsive to the community, and the comments from the community, teatro expanded its project to include a hotel with a theater and public park. prior public planning for this site called for a hotel at the site. teatro has engaged an investment partner and together they have formed a limited liability corporation called tzk broadway, llc., so that teatro can return to san francisco. the proposed uses as indicated -- in the line use regulations that cover this site. including the port waterfront line use plan. the port previously sought a development partner for a hotel on the site. the site continues to be recognized as ideal for hotel and entertainment using because of its location's attributes. the board of supervisor
