scottish fiddlers are playing no concerts in san francisco where they started about 30 years ago but are playing at the brass terrace in folsome. it is just wrong and this is a organization that gibs so much back to the community and helps educate so many people and we-the performing arts are something the student want to do and should be allowed to do. as howard said we need your help to do this. thank you >> thank you mr. hall. mr. [inaudible] >> president of [inaudible] chair of the public utility commission [inaudible] the public [inaudible] i ran last year for board orphtrustees on a plat form i wherea lot of

people are talking about accredidation on what the role of the community college was. for me it was personal because i saw myself in the [inaudible] as many know i came from blue caller family and father didn't graduate from high school and i was the first to go to college. i struggled until i got to community college and went to 4 year university and graduate with a degree and make my parent proud. for me this college is about elevating people out of poverty and chaifging peoples live and giving second chances and most vulnerable students are at stack now and they are being treated as pawn on a chess board. it is why we need to restore the board of trustees and take bay local control. when i hear undocumented student who don't qualify for federal aid are paying
1:02 pm
thousandoffs dollars in tuition every semester only to go fl to debt for the next semester and can't register again that is heart breaking. when i read in the paper guardian scholars wasn't funded and foster children that have been through the worst of the worst cannot register for classes or buy books that breaks my heart. when i see we have building trade who want to do apprenticeships at evans campus and that is stalled. it is give-we talk about local hiring in construction. i work in construction and that is important. i feel wlee setting up student to fail. with the issue of enrollment we also keep student from enrolling with the debt cycles we put them in and canceling the classes so we can't complain we don't have enrollment when we don't have the classes and cut them back. thank you so much
1:03 pm
for paying attention to the issue. i means a lot to me personly and the stud thont school and faculty who are amazing, but i feel this process needs to happen a lot faster than it has >> thank you mr. air gone. next speaker. >> good afternoon, my name is gab rial taumps is residence organizer for community housing partnership. inel rr a direct neighbor to the eddy campus. nigh address is 650 eddy. i'm upset about the statement that was made that if the people were in danger they were going to move them out so who moved us out i live on this block. i'm their direct neighbor so that is disheartening to me. as i work as a resident leader we decided to take upon ourselves to start something called take back the block so
1:04 pm
the neighborhood can be safer. bringing back the campus is important to my neighborhood and family and very important to the community. as low income housing people and we have spanish speakers in my building this was a source and actual step up for them so that could move on with their education. sometimes you need to start at a school that is closest to the house before you brounch out of your community so in order to do that we need to the eddy street campus. we appreciate the victory had today but this is something that we need. let me leave you with what a child in the building, if they close down that school will they close down my school? >> thank you. >> my name is jermy and student at ccsf and a organizer of yesterdays demonstration. you asked the president of trustees what we depended and
1:05 pm
he sfrgot to answer that even though we had multipm demonstration. we asked for removal of special trustees and cuts to classes and resource centers and end of the payment policy implemented last semester who kicked out new students before they had a chance to take the classes. there is so much i would like to say about city college and how it helped me and families. [inaudible] i didn't expect to see her here and i'm so proud to see what it has done for her. it is a festment to what city college does. my mother went to city call blg for child development. a liteena woman and house painter were able to buy a home because of resources provided because of city college and public
1:06 pm
institutions. the studsants organizations i belong to we are not demanding these be cut, we have ideas to rectify the issues. we know there is work to be done and we would love to have open communication with these people so we can make the a change and love the students center to a opportunity to do that. there is so much more i would like to say. we spent a million in advertising this year and that is great. what if we put a million in the school to give more resources? why not give studsants free rides on bart and muni and give them all tickets. why not advertise to kudants that can't live in the city. can we just talk about it? >> thanks jermy. next speakers >> hello, my name is albert
1:07 pm
hawj. i'm also a student at city college and was at the protest yesterday that we taij staged. i am a life long learner because of a number of issues. when i first moved to san francisco in 2001 i found or 2002, i moved into the accessier neighborhood just a ways from city college and found that was the time for me to go back to school since i wasn't able to go immediately into college from high school. i want to tell you a tail of 2 city colleges. when i started in 2003 i saw a large number of diversity studies courses, african american studies, gay lesbian stud as, latino american studies and a number of different arts classes that appealed to me. when i started
1:08 pm
there i was working on my aa degree and 2 dance certificate that the college offered. i had to leave school a little while after that because of some family issues and my fathers health but when i returned last year found a lot of things changed. there was a dance major program offered there i can work tworts fwr my aa and focus more on that, but at the same time the performing arts and education center wasn't present and found that a lot of money was diverted from that. a number of diversity courses offered in the past were significantly lowered and i found that disheartening. at the same time i was happy to see the faculty and student seemed to be more motivated on getting more people to class.
1:09 pm
the course repeatability [inaudible] made it difficult to get the numbers up for at risk communities to come back and enjoy what the college has to offer >> thank you. if there is anybody else that would like to speak please come forward. we are going to close public comment >> [inaudible] vice president for political affairs for hrfby milk [inaudible] thank you for all that you have done. what amazing me most is the xhunty that came together to support city college. the harvey milk club is extremely proud to be a part of this on going fight and the coalition that has built. it is a sample of what san francisco should look like when you walk around the campus you see such colorful wonderful
1:10 pm
diversity and i think that this fight is just a indicator of what we are able to do when we come together as community and we are grateful to supervisors and to everyone for joining and standing unand being a part of it. nothing that i can say hasn't been said already, but want to show my appreciation >> thank you. next speakers >> supervisors thank you for everything that you have done on behalf of ccsf. my name is [inaudible] i'm teaching the african american studies department at ccsf. in 2012 the [inaudible] evaluated 2 colleges in particular. ccsf and heeld college. they passed heeld college with flying colors. they threatened ccsf
1:11 pm
with closeier. this is hard to imagine how this could happen. i can make some suggestions. earlier in the session we heard about the compensation of the special trustee with extraordinary powers. what we didn't hear is that special trustee passed a pay raise if the highest administrators wile we are told faculty cannotigate a raise because there is no money to pay them while student services are cut by twoivl percent. i can go on and on and my students know i go on and on. i suggest why that happened in 2012. ccsf wasn't organized among the business model and heeld college was.
1:12 pm
what is happening now at ccsf is the business model. highest level of administration gets paid well and reduce the pay of the faculty and staff, you cut resources. this is the business model and this is the model we are told we should be falloge. there is no place in education for the business model. there is no place in business for the business model. it is corrupt, it is destructive and emoral and at best a moral. i'll shut up >> thank you mr. fur ar. we are going to close public comment. if there is anyone else that would like to come forward >> [inaudible] became involved with city college because i also attended city college and many of my former student went there. my husband and i are having a forum at

1:14 pm
at the college, indpaijing in your coffee shops and neighborhood, getting people to talk about enrolling at city college and trustees you don'ts have a job now, get on those buses, meet people, great the public and get them to enroll. this is the college that is a reflection and best reflection of san francisco. don't lose it by attrition and inattention. thank you so much >> thank you. colleagues we'll close public comment now and i would like to ask if there clouzing remarks. i want to thank jeff hamilton adjustment liaison from city college. we did ask special tustee to be here. thank you to chancellor art tyler for being here for the full time and other staff and members of the board of trustees. i want to thank elisea meser and pleny

[inaudible] activist for being here and coalition around the tenderloin as well and also dillen oyang from the mta has expressed he could not be here but they are trying to work with city college to assure there is strong transportation support for the students especially in the civic center areas. supervisor campos >> thank you chair mar and want to thank you for bringing this item forward and thank tooz the entire san francisco city college community to the chancellor who was here for the whole meeting to the trustees and going back to the question i raised by the special trustee, i'm happy to be corrected, this is not right, but i think the number of people have given me is the sprelsh trustee makes 216
1:16 pm
thousand a year. as we heard from the chancellor he also gets a 350 subsidy a month plus a vehicle and mileage and gas and as a chancellor indicated he is in the office 3 to 4 days a week. one question i have is if he is out of the office maybe as much as 2 days a week why do you need a housing subsidy? beyond that i'm not sure how to justify something like this given everything that is happen, the cuts being made not only the slry cuts for inadequacy of the salaries and also the services being cut to students. you can't talk and preach fiscal responsibility if
1:17 pm
you are not living that yourself. thank you >> thank you supervisor. thank you to supervisor kim and christensen. i want to say a lot of great suzs and want to thank city college administration for clarifying the new lease in the work frz the market street site and hope thael there is a task force that includes the staff faculty and studen in that process and it is up and running as soon as possible. i want to thank the coalition to save city college, the civic center tenderloin coalition multilingry and ready to mingle. i want to acknowledge enrollment campaign and moving the needle-the hand out given to us and acknowledge that as supervisors as a city we should think strusteejically
1:18 pm
as john rizo gave financial suggestion squz others and we'll go back to our office and work with the coalition and the trustees and administration on how the city can be more supportive of the effort to reinvigorate city college and move the needle forward as people said and be supportive. with that let's close the hearing and i'll make a motion we file this hearing. can we do that without objection? thank you. thank you for coming out. we have one more item so if you can leave as quitely as possible >> item number 2 is ordinance waibing pan banner fees under 18478 for up to 4 banners to be placed by the alternative school to pubalize [inaudible] >> we have from supervisor tangs office mr. law >> good afternoon supers

1:27 pm
we wanted to offer a program that is, you know makes people happy and leaves them with memories. >> here and there. >> so more points. >> ready 1, 2, 3. i think a big part is it's coming from san francisco it is real estate a kind of vibe people relate to each other and everyone's living in the city and you can feel the breath of fetish air and the experience you get out here. i think it give us an opportunity to get away from technology you come out here and look at it here and not look at our iphones and you kind of lose users in the city and have a cup of coffee
1:28 pm
>> i'm corey a typical day increase no typical day. and just the first time being on the talent show and getting a huge applause and i never expected it is is r is a great experience i'm an executive chief here at kathy serve over one hundred meals a day for the camp mather folks. people love our meals and the idea they can pick up a meal and don't worry about shopping or doing dishes and enjoy and have a great time at camp mather >> grasping grab on. >> i like camp mather it is a
