makes the garden possible so the society came in being in 1965 we've worked closely with the rec and park department to bring our community and bring the world the garden we have today it is so i also want to say that you know we're one garden and we're one team two entities that bring the garden together but the gardeners and the rec and park staff i want to thank them we're doing several things to celebrate of '75th anniversary the fundraising galileo and gavin newsom will be the speaker and the commission president and

of the fabric of the community and work hand in hand with the neighborhood representatives to make sure the center is meeting the meetings needs of the public in 2011 they supported a sports corridor making sure they're ready to service the community in honor of centers 25th anniversary and the folks that built the community around this vital recreation overlook center the rec and park department proudly recognized jean fund recreation center on this historic milestone. >> please it was objective who received the other certificates this one in the name of as our commission president victory we're going to ask a whole bunch

(clapping) >> my name is leah i'm one of the original 5 that was hired to open up the shop i should say we were trying to open it in 1989 but the earthquake came we were retouching the floors before we opened in 1990 i want to thank the city for continuing to be part of the growing and addressing the needs of the community i first started working in the community center that south of market and what with our the liaison between rec and park and the community with robison and the rec directors and the community-based organizations in south of market created us to work very, very closely with the

community to advocate for programs the community was really needing at this point it was not just rec and park department huge recreation park it was more important that we continued to support us in collaborating in those efforts i left gosh 16 years ago to raise my children i said good by and worked with the community and as a volunteer coming back and looking forward to the right. >> event >> thank you very much (clapping.) i know we have a representative from supervisor kim's office so, please. >> thank you commissioners and i'm joined with april from also from your office we are just

incredibly proud and so chieftd to celebrate the silver anniversary i wore silver together tim because of the anniversary of the rec center i don't know what 50 juniors we had a little tribute a special acknowledgment for the staff amazing it go walk into the rec center meeting on wednesday morning i see tim sitting down there surrounded by the community workers to champion the program and it is a wonderful we want to acknowledge the efforts and have a special conformation accomodation for

staff you're going to hang it on the wall (clapping.) as well as the family of eugene and benny and jason and we're really looking forward to working with them in the coming years to renovate and to continue to look at this institution thank you so much come on come on for your investment and being part of that feeling too (clapping). >> appreciate it. >> we're just grateful to be part that this when we see how many lives voluntary changed as that neighborhood changes we

example, in fact, we have the only population of the mission butterfly anywhere in the city it is a vulnerable species it spends it's entire life on a single plant and needs a particular place to live they don't fly from her po to mexico they barely fly across the road last year, we equipment x expected two to hundred butterflies we know our work is paying off people like the blue mission butterfly this is planet earth to april is earth day we volunteer earth or earth day but we're protecting our own homes in the natural areas and rec and park he
