is still verb a car oriented city and fascinating when the oil crisis hit in the 1970s people took to bicycling in a way that created the will to create infrastructure and credit they have flat streets but colder weather on the rain it and coldest of days bike lanes were crowded so who was fascinating one that people drove slowly and law law-abiding not people speeding from the light to light and in general people respected the fact they were sharing the streets with various modes of transportation and had a successful bike track to the city and small streets they didn't have a cycle

fracture a east bump at the end of the street that proementsd traffic slowing down and made it great for families on the street i thought it was a fascinating woo we have put in speed bumps because of traffic in the neighborhoods that was a dual solution they came up with what was fascinating in the morning on some of the major thoroughfares more o far more bicyclists than cars they have the bicycle lanes on market street they have 42 thousand cyclists pass by and getting used to the rush hour pace etch people going to work they were seniors and kids and families with their cargo bikes those cargo bikes are st. mary big champ they look like wheel barriers and they built the

tracks they hadn't anticipated so many families in the city taking kids to school it is fascinating how the product was created to respond to the needs to take the kids and secondly, how to deal with the cargo bikes that take up a lot of room i was thought that was fascinating the friendly approach but overall a lot of lessons they're still have traffic they still have lent plenty of cars on the street, of course, a hundred tax fees it is quite affordable when i think of the hundred and 50 percent car tax it is a registration fee they made a

commitment to cycling only 10 percent of the people wear helmets because they abide by the law and seniors kind of sheriff more safety practices i felt encouraged it was the traffics one of the things they've expanded the curves and situations for restaurant they came up with other ways to help with the concerns around business they have at same struggles struggles people want to double-parked but they i thought that was really a great example how they've come up with a way to share the streets the other thing that was fascinating the motorized wheelchairs and accessed chairs that created a

smooth pathway for the disabled a consumers i thought that was an important thing the sidewalks with not as ideal and because of the stone and the brickwork into the sidewalks they're not great for not only for going on with a hero but a moefrtd vehicle it was a great example we've learned how to improve the bike ways if what was really kind of illuminating with the intersection there's not people sitting in a left-hand turn lane everyone feels unsafe the cars are unsafe and bicyclists are not feeling safe their competing with cars we can create a separation to pedestrians and

driving skills but to qualify i have to demonstrate a strong safety records and good attendance and safety record a meeting of the, if you will bus operator world a terrific source of pride to be in the competition alone i'm pleased to introduce you to this year's winner of the international bus rodeo for the 40 feet how is the the transit because we have them in the most common bus in the industry but the international winner happens to be from sfmta so without further introduction i want to thrill about it this quite a preservation award mr.

kevin grady (clapping) i'll say paul petersen is the training manager that passed on his tips in terms of kevin kevin is a 29 year veteran that just to show you his versus tilt his day job a cable operator he's able to navigate who types of conveyances this is, in fact a prestigious award we're hosting the american transit association in the fall so congratulations mr. grady. >> on behalf of the board of directors and the agency congratulations.

tentative agreement the agreement for a 2 year term beginning on june 30th to go through 2017 and it was presented to the membership on may 27th of 250 a to be voted on tomorrow so we'll innovative we'll pubically disclosure the terms of the agreement and moving forward we believe this is a very fair deal and good deal both for us and the employees this is an important group of workers that play a vital role in getting service out we're pleased to therps able to get to a deal and extend the wages during that period through the citywide package from our

>> two other just quick points of information mr. chairman and board members after we did introduce double stopping in the system and the good news s it worked the bad news the system integration between the upgraded computer and the announcement computer was not was it needed to be we've shelved it and directed the measures to correct the software problems we'll not reactivate the feature until it is working properly and, of course, go through the necessary notifications other thing i want to mention on sunday night we were scheduled to complete oath segment of the tunnel that work did not took

place as anticipated this week the contractor was not prepared this weekend the signal on the signal that is in on the west side of the tunnel that directs as your approaching even though curb that directs the speed they're not prepared with the right materials 0 our construction folks moved to she did and we're working to impose a new set guidelines and rules with them so we hope to be able to get on track shortly when we're able to get a viable work plan and finally on tuesday night last tuesday night a town hall hosted by director reiskin and the chair of 258 most of the questions focused on the safety of our system and what was

agreed to a series of safety campaigns messaging to emphasis the importance of safety the number one goal in the last couple of weeks we've been doing collaboratively between management and 250 a giving the railroad courses a reeshlt course on the braking system and when to use them we've reached out through trainers and instructors and inspectors to operators on defensive driving and good driving techniques the local is out to reinforce the safety message it's part of the renewed and ongoing commitment to renew the safety practices in the day to day operations of the
