4:00 pm
riding the bus. i'm surprised to hear they are crowded in the day and appreciate the work matt is doing but done see that in the day. also the buses that were too big for the lanes the buses now and show the picture the buses not in the red zones and we also take picture of them driving on both lanes in the middle. i think it is drivers that need to be looked at and not the size of lanes. i worked with merchant and inorder to engage you have it go 2, 3, 4, 5 times to find out the owner especially in the neighborhood where there isn't a lot of trust with people coming to businesses because a lot of scams that happened to them in the past. i'm surprised they were able to reach that many businesses. it took me a year to build trust
4:01 pm
with the merchants and find out the owners. most are workers and not owners. i think that they need to do a much thorough outreach to the merchants, 3, 4 times in their language because a lot of them speak spanish or mandarin. i tyke to get a report where all those e-mails came from because i got a call from david compos [inaudible] we dent want to dwhide riders between the merchants and cars, we want it to work for everyone and think the numbers are skewed is for the bus riders which is fine but we need it for everybody. thank you. >> next speaker.
4:02 pm
>> rick hall, speaking for cultural action network. we have our office in the red zone building right at 16th and [inaudible] so very close to this area and work with gabriel and eric and all the people in the mission trying to preserve the mission as we know it. meaning preserve what is left after 8 thousand lutinoes are displaced. now the mission is very fragile eco system after years of attack from forces of gentrification and people are displaced and culture white washed. we understand there is natural change with time, but now we are in the middle of a raupd forced change that is
4:03 pm
very uncomfortable. that is why a third of the people in the bay area are now considering leaving. see, we were very unhappy with what we called the sfmta red carpet bombing of the mission. i give matt credit, he is good to work with but get the feeling his hands are tied because we met with him and talked to him one on one. there is a very very few things that can be done without the sfmta board approval to correct this mess and we know how the sfmta works and thinks. it will be a long battle and will continue. we
4:04 pm
did speak at the sfmta board and wanted to be clear we are supportive improving street safety and traffic service. just because i have to drive and can't walk far doesn't make me totally a driver. i ride the bus and came here on the bart tonight. but, we believe that the stated goals can be met with different alternatives. their solutions are way too rubber stamped and simplistic and hidden under the guise of safety, not real safety. one issue we asked about is no left turns. had answer we got is left turns are more dangerous than right turns, vision zero says so. we
4:05 pm
totally agree with that. >> thank you very much. another time. alright, any other members that like to comment on this item? seeing none public comment is closed. we are on to the 10th item which is general public comment. this allows members to address--what? >> okay. no commissioner comments. >> i have a question. >> you have a comment on this item? >> so, no feedback to the sfmta or next steps? >> if i-i agree with the red striping. it does create like a railroad system but it is right turns. that is really the sticking point. if you can
4:06 pm
really in honesty look at that and address that if you look at it it starts traffic jam up too crescent like today i was on mission and had to go through brunal heights, i don't want to say it on public because that is my secret. that is my way into the mission. it has unintended consequences because i go through other neighborhoods. the right turns and think that is the biggest compromise your agency can do with the mission merchants corridor. >> any other comments? >> i want to say in closing to the sfmta staff thank you for being here for long meeting. i don't think we thought it would be quite this long when we planned it so we'll be more careful and think we'll good to
4:07 pm
maybe have future planning meetings with the president of the commission and myself and you as we move forward with our next projects and presentations. thank you to the staff being here and providing us. >> you have been very generous if your time and preparation so thank you very much. appreciate it. sorry, we have one more comment >> i want to say my major take on tonight if i want to bring one comment forward is that i think we heard enough to know that it would be extremely important for the public to be inform of the 2017-2021 capital improvement project and should be made aware to the public before it is reviewed and they should be able to revee that
4:08 pm
before it is voted on because we get back to the same thing of the people feeling like things are already decided yehind their backs so i urge to make public as quickly as possible what your projects are for the next number of years, what your proposed projects are rather than just bringing them forward as a done deal. >> any other comments? alright. we are done with item 9. next item is number 10, i remind that you item 10-13 or 14 two minutes limit on public comment. this public comment is the opportunity for anyone to propose-talk about things not on our agenda or propose new agenda items for future consideration. if you have anything you would like us to consider in the future let us know. do we have members of
