11:32 pm
medical division and today, i'm honored to welcome mayor ed lee director garcia are the ucsf to join together to share in the witnessing of 24 historic signing of legislation that was approved by the board of supervisors last week which will allow usf to build an africa and research building here on this compass marry in 2013 mayor ed lee recognized the importance of this partnering between ucsf and the dph in this relationship revoked the importance and therefore established a task force to explore to construct a modern facility for research and academic here on this compass and because of his foresight and leadership we're here today to
11:33 pm
have this contradiction come one step closer to fruition mayor ed lee thank you for your leadership leadership and invite you to make a few remarks. >> all right. thank you, sue and to everyone here in a room i want to say it really is great to be here this morning on a bright day and the zuckerberg san francisco general hospital where more restrictive the treatment of patient it is the invariable research that goes along with that it it takes time 3 years we we were planning for the next one hundred and 50 years this the significance of partnership that san francisco general and the city has the zuckerberg compassed with our partnership with ucsf that is a unique papering one that allows us to keep a robust kind of
11:34 pm
almost bedside to beverage kind of relationship where the research goods along with the care and that it has had significant contribution to being a level one trauma center we value the most i know that when but get a lot of also in the room (laughter) every word becomes significant to somebody on one side or the other i'd like to take the opportunity to thank all the agencies if zuckerberg general and dph and office of economic workforce development that did the labor negotiations our city zoning administrator was involved our real estate was involved and certainly they had to report up the chain and ultimately got one of the best advocates we could find at the board of supervisors jeff sheehy
11:35 pm
that knows this place personally and made a huge contribution to the dialogue at the board of supervisors that's why we got a unanimous vote at the board and on the other side i really my and will always thank our chancellor sam who personally appealed to me three years ago he said take personal attention to have this when chester and vice chair chancellor appealed you, you to you know you better work on it and they did we got it done and talking about positions and raise that might be significant in 50 or 60 years and trying to talk people off the ledge of what if a this and that happens and into why not have la relationship that lasts another one and 50 years if so a wonderful partnership has to do
11:36 pm
with with the world-class hospital and research combined patients feel that a doctor on sight not in need across the way to different buildings doing initiative research and preventing things this is what a level one trauma center does as the mayor of the city i'm appreciative it is part of historical and the development of city how we're so successful happens that we serve some 4 thousand patients a year in this place and not just this area but the below grade a mission that continues to improve the care for everyone a $200 million project miss month is funded by the function from ucsf it is not an insignificant contribution by the way, this is variable money
11:37 pm
and a huge contribution also to the labor force a strong hire and the city build academy and appreciate that they cover all aspects as if they were building a building downtown and even more so so again thank you. i look forward to the groundbreaking in 2019 and i - i know all the staff here understand that it does it takes time for good things to happen i know that we were somewhat got to a point where we had to tell each other whether the city or san francisco general and the regents we have to get the language down so we can take care of the business i didn't know is supervisor sheehy i've watched the dialogue i
11:38 pm
seldom do that go back and turn on the tv and let me watch the whole dialogue i wanted to understand that what people arrow saying and doing so we can get to a point i know the regents perhaps felt as important about this relationship that he did as the city so thank you to everyone ultimately for the compromise and says if you understand as i did as an attorney some of the phrases that had to be acted on you'll know how lawyers 0 going on for months and months is necessary did they actually did (laughter) we had to be patient and draw them back but, yeah we got to get this done they do so it will not take 3 years to build this; right? hopefully much are
11:39 pm
