people that work in city hall. they come around all day, whether it's the shift department or upstairs or the mta, just want to pet the animals and it helps people feel better. a lot of people proactively ask us, are you bringing back the kittens? we've been doing this for five years. it usually culminates in a party in december. we'll see animals adopted throughout the year. if people are thinking about animals to adopt, they may go to a pet store, buy from a breeder, go to spca, but we want people to know that the acc has animals that need homes. >> every year, her office does the 12 days of kittens. and she picks up every morning cute, adoptable kittens.

she has different groups of kittens every day and brings them to her city hall office and they're there all day for everybody that goes through to see and enjoy. we adopt out 900 kittens every year, cats and kittens. we're working all year long promoting adoption, getting people in to see the cats. so it's a pleasure it have the opportunity to showcase some of them in supervisor tang's office. kittens love to play and they're frolicking and all that and it's super fun. >> sometimes they will roam around people's desks. if someone wants to adopt a cat, they can identify any of them that might be hanging around our office, but we have to go through animal care and control, make sure they pay a fee. it's very affordable, as well as they receive the proper vaccination. >> come on down, adopt a cat. there's a lot of kitties waiting for a beautiful home.

public utilities commission. the program came about with state wide legislation in 2002 to enable people to take more control over supplies. i first heard of the program when the organization was advocating to launch clean power sf. what i'm most excited about, it's going to bring 100% renewable energy to my home and reinvest into renewable energy infrastructure and jobs. i had gone to a lot of street fairs and heard from the staff at the san francisco public utilities commission to sign up for clean power sf even before it launched. >> we learned about clean power sf because our sustainability team is always looking for clean

operations. linkedin is the largest online network. there are about 530 million members using our site. in this san francisco office there's about 1400 employees working in roughly 400,000 square feet. >> after signing up for the program we heard about the san francisco program and learned they had commercial rates and signed up for that. i'm the co-owner of the new wheel electric bike shop. we opened this store in 2012 and the new wheel sells and services electric bikes. 11 people work here in san francisco and our store is about 2,000 square feet. electric bikes are fantastic for transportation in the city, they're clean and green and you get places faster than any other form of transportation. it amplifies the power, it doesn't replace it. it makes it easier to get places by bicycle and it's so enjoyable

and environmentally friendly way to go and more convenient in san francisco. >> clean power sf requires two products, green, 40% renewable and competitively priced with pg and e. for those who want to fight climate change more, 100% renewable at $0.02 per kilawatt. >> i decided to go with the super greens, after finding it only to cost about $5 more a month to have super green, that's a no-brainer, i can do that. >> we were pleased that clean power sf offers the super green 100% for commercial entities like ours and residents for the city of san francisco.

we were pleased with the package of services for linkedin and now encouraging our employees who have a residence in san francisco to sign on as well. >> clean power sf buys its power from renewable plants that feed the energy directly into the grid. >> there's a commitment to sustainability throughout the entire organization and this clean power opportunity reflects that. >> one of the wind farms we use is the shilo wind farm and that is large enough to be able to provide energy for up to 200,000 homes. >> our mission is sustainability, even though our bikes are minimal energy use, it still matters where the energy comes from and part of our mission in sustainability is how we run everything -- run our business. having the lights come on with

clean energy is very important. >> the sunset reservoir has solar panels that take up about four city blocks covering the reservoir and the solar power generates energy for city resources and clean power sf for residents participating in the program. >> it was easy to sign up for the program, i went online to cleanpowersf.org and i started getting pieces in the mail letting me know i was going to be switched over and it just happened. when i pay my bill, i still go to pg and e and i don't see any difference between now and a year ago. >> sign up online, just have your account number ready and it takes about two minutes and there's nothing to install. no lines are getting connected to your home. all the power goes through the existed power grid. >> we haven't had any problems

with the switch over to clean power. >> it's super easy to sign up. our book keeper signed up online, it took about 15 minutes. nothing changed but now we have cleaner energy. >> we see clean power sf as a key strategy to meet renewable energy goal, we have a goal of 50% renewable energy by 2020. currently we have enrolled about 86,000 customers across the city. about 20% of what we hope to serve in the future and in the next two years we'll offer service to all san francisco electricity customers. >> an easy way to align your environmental responsibilities and goals around climate change and it's so easy that it's hard to not want to do it and it doesn't really add anything to the bill. >> joining clean power sf is one of the easiest ways to fight climate change, receiving

having an out of state contact, to call, text or post on your social network is really important and being able to know how you are going to communicate with your friends, and family who live near you, where you might meet them if your home is uninhab hitable. >> how long do you think that it will be before things are restored to normal in san francisco. >> it depends on the severity of the earthquake, we say to provide for 72 hours tha, is three days, and it helps to know that you might be without services for up to a week or more, depending on how heavy the shaking is and how many after shocks we have. >> what kind of neighborhood and community involvement might you want to have before an earthquake to make sure that you are going to able to have the support that you need. >> it is important to have a good relationship with your neighbors and your community. go to those community events, shop at local businesses, have a reciprocal relationship with them so that you know how to

take care of yourself and who you can rely on and who can take care of you. it is important to have a battery-operated radio in your home so that you can keep track of what is happening in the community around and how you can communicate with other people. >> one of the things that seems important is to have access to your important documents. >> yes, it is important to have copies of those and also stored them remotely. so a title to a home, a passport, a driver's license, any type of medical records that you need need, back those up or put them on a remote drive or store them on the cloud, the same is true with any vital information on your computer. back that up and have that on a cloud in case your hard drive does not work any more. >> in your home you should be prepared as well. >> absolutely. >> let's take a look at the kinds of things that you might want to have in your home. >> we have no water, what are we going to do about water? >> it is important for have

extra water in your house, you want to have bottled water or a five gallon container of water able to use on a regular basis, both for bathing and cooking as well as for drinking. >> we have this big container and also in people's homes they have a hot water heater. >> absolutely, if you clean your hot water heater out regularly you can use that for showering, drinking and bathing as well >> what other things do people need to have aren't their home. >> it is important to have extra every day items buy a couple extra cans of can food that you can eat without any preparation. >> here is a giant can of green giant canned corn. and this, a manual can opener, your electric can opener will not be working not only to have one but to know where to find it in your kitchen. >> yes. >> so in addition to canned goods, we are going to have fresh food and you have to preserve that and i know that

we have an ice chest. >> having an ice chest on hand is really important because your refrigerator will not be working right away. it is important to have somebody else that can store cold foods so something that you might be able to take with you if you have to leave your home. >> and here, this is my very own personal emergency supply box for my house. >> i hope that you have an alternative one at home. >> oh, i forgot. >> and in this is really important, you should have flashlights that have batteries, fresh batteries or hand crank flashlight. >> i have them right here. >> good. excellent. that is great. additionally, you are going to want to have candles a whistle, possibly a compass as well. markers if you want to label things if you need to, to people that you are safe in your home or that you have left your home. >> i am okay and i will meet you at... >> exactly.

my name is vlady. i use titus and i am the resident commissioner for the san francisco housing facility. from the very beginning, this whole transition of public housing and affordable housing was a good idea. but many, many residents didn't think it would ever actually happen. it's been a life changing experience. and i'm truly grateful for the whole initiative and all those that work on the whole sf initiative. they've done a wonderful job accommodating the residents, who for many years have lived in delap tated housing. now they have quality housing.

i was on a street where the living room and the kitchen and stairs. it wasn't large enough to accommodate. the children are grown. i had the accomplish of having a dishwasher in my home. i really like that. [laughter] i really like not having to wash dishes by hand. we still do it from time to time. the mayor's office has been a real friend to us, a partner. we know that our city supports us. i love san francisco. just to be able to stay in my community and continue to help the residents who live here and continue to see my neighborhoods move into new housing, it's been a real joy. it's been a real joy.

japanese restaurant, chinese restaurant, american restaurant, and the cultural diversity is just what makes it so amazing my name is ching le, and i'm the owner of the kingdom of bounty. 17th san francisco, 94116. we make the most authentic and different kinds of dumplings and dim sum. recently more and more popular because they are vegetables and meats that we use fresh vegetables and meats in the business. it's really inspired to start discover your district series, because i wanted to find a way for neighbors to come and get to know our small businesses and our neighborhoods. get to know each other, get know our office, and do so in a setting that was unintimidating and fun. so i launched this idea call the

"discover your district," where we go every month to one or two small businesss in district 4 and we have done things such as learning how to make dumplings that we're learning today and there are so many different activities that we have exposed our residents to. >> today is the very special day, because the city of san francisco hosting this for san francisco city. learning how to make dumplings and knowledge of dumplings. they love to do it and all enjoy it. >> this is definitely not my first time making it, so i have definitely improved a lot. the first couple of time s i tried to make dumplelings they looks inedible. they have definitely improved. there is a special dumpling eating contest, which is amazing. everyone those eat the dumplings that

withollins consulting inc. for e design of the infrastructure to support new development, primarily in the candlestick project area. some of these services they are offering are reviewing subdivision apps at the new lots for the new buildings, reviewing improvement plans to bring utilities to the new locks created with the maps, reviewing form water designs in excess of water from storms and delivering it to the bay, coordinating various regulatory approvals without side agencies and other city departments.

the project area is shipyard one and two and can dill stick point, but the primary focus will be candlestick point where they are preparing multiple phases of projects final maps. this will require extensive review of utility designs and public improvement plans. in terms of consultants for this work since 2015, it is currently done by hawk engineers, the contract with hawks engineers expires at the end of this month. relative to this selection process, ocii followed the

following steps. on august 8, 2018, ocii issued a request for proposals for engineering and technical services. on october 22, we held a pre-proposal meeting with five interested firms. we went through the r.f.p. criteria to discuss the issues and answerkies. on september 11, we responded to all written questions from the various interested parties, and on september 22, all r.f.p. responses were due. our outreach efforts inintoeded 90 e-mail solutiontationses to the city for engineers. we contacted the african-american chamber of commerce who disseminated the

r.f.p. to its members. we coordinated the shipyard assistance center, both disseminated the information to clients or members. finally, we posted the r.f.p. to both the city contract and administration web page and oci web page. we eventually received one r.f.p. from holland consulting inc. it included sub consultants hawk engineering who is the older for the contract and sustainable

wattster shed design and sustainable watershed designs are certified lpes. after we received the response, we conteened a review panel for all subject matter experts. we had a member from ocii, public works and two developers. it was selected because they met all of the r.f.p. criteria. the panel received positive reports of previous working relationships. fees were determined to be fair and reasonable. the panel found they were

>> the commission actions today are to find the developer made good faith efforts to lease the grocery space and to approve termination of the developer's obligation to provide a grocery store in transbay block 8. before we start, i want to step back a little bit. i want everyone to know that block 8 is one you have the cal tran's parcels that was a former embarcadero freeway parcel. the proceeds from the sale of that piece of land went to the funding of the transit center, and, you know, the goal of all negotiations and sales is to maximize the land price and get as much affordable housing as possible. for this project land price we

were able to negotiate with $71 million and 70% of affordable housing. summary of the key findings. the developer and broker reached out to numerous grocers, too much grocery competition. ocii hired a consultant to review the grocery market. the developer met the dda conditions. block 8 is follow some street between -- folsom street between fremont and first street. it consists of 548 residential

units. 50/50 affordable 17,000 square feet every tail. the grocery portion is totally of 13,010 square feet, 2700 square feet is to the ground floor. 10,400 square feet is located in the basement. the dda was approved in 2015 and dda requires developer make good faith efforts and hire a listing broker to market the space, provide proper staffing and provide quarterly progress updates to ocii includes market surveys, outreach efforts and obstacles to leasing the space. the dda reading the developer is

unable to lease within a year of opening the developer may request commission approval to terminate the obligation. that shall not be unreasonably withheld, conditioned or dela delayed. regarding the developer's efforts, they hired collier as the listing rocker and contacted 13 grocers. the majority were local. all of the grocers declined due to competition from woodlands market. they opened in 2017 located three blocks away. there was too little space that was not contiguous or they were not interested in the area. this is a list of the grocers contacted by the developer and broker. the developer provided staffing

this was brought to the transbase cac last thursday. they voted against recommending the commission terminate the grocery obligation. that was a 5-3 vote. there are cac members here to speak during the public comment period. although staff understanding the cac's concerns, staff finds developer complied with the terms. made good faith efforts, the o ocii hired retail consultant agrees local demand cannot support two grocers. space constraints are challenges. in our opinion the dda language is very clear the approval shall not be withheld. therefore staff finds the developer has fully comply with the terms and recommends the commission approve termination
