>> last november he got the offer to help proposition c. supervisor norman yee -- [indiscernible]
11:01 am
>> i am here to speak in support of hillary running for president of the board of supervisors. as a young and aspiring leader, hillary ronen is an example of what bold leadership is. it is important to me to come
11:02 am
here and speak on behalf of someone i considered has set a new standard for future d9 supervisors. i believe what makes her different from the rest is that her ability to connect with the people of her district. the ability to convey her passion and love for this community and this city. she has given this community a voice against displacement and gentrification, and relentless courage to drive the work despite the opposition. this is a time for bold and ambitious, pushy leadership. this is a time to be unafraid to , and this is a time for women like me and next future leaders to see hillary ronen as president of the board. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> good afternoon. i have been waiting on that one for so long. hello, everyone. i am a mission burnell resident,
11:03 am
and they work in the mission district for one of the oldest national latino institutions of this nation. i am here to support hillary ronen for board president. i don't have to remind everyone we are in a housing crisis, and we are facing thousands and thousands of people on the streets. we are facing a hostile federal government that has zero investment in supporting the cities. i -- just -- we do not have the time to play respectability politics. what i mean by that is that our values cannot continue to support the status quo. we have to be representing those most marginalized, and i urge this board to foster and bring forth leadership that embodies emotion, that embodies boldness, conviction, and above all, justice and love. this is a hillary. i think we have seen her in our
11:04 am
neighborhoods across sectors work her tenacity to bring people across differences. i have been at the table when i don't agree with hillary at times, and we talk things through. that is what we need. to have somebody in leadership who can bring folks together to address those dire needs that we have two face in the next several years. hillary is my girl. i hope you will join us. i know a lot of folks are here, but i want to thank everyone, and thank hillary for the relentless leadership you have provided to, not only to our experience as a surviving organization that has been displaced, but we will continue to try and come back from exile into district nine. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> good afternoon. i want to congratulate the new supervisors, and the reelected supervisors for this office. i am here to make some support
11:05 am
statements as a 50 year resident of san francisco, and is a an individual to support supervisor norman yee to be your next president. i have known norman for over 12 years with his board -- role on the board of education in terms of dealing with child care issues, and now being on this board, he is going into his seventh year of being on this board. i have worked with him on not only children and youth issues, the senior issues and adults with disabilities. he specifically looks at the issues, and ways the situation. from subject to subject, they may differ so he is not necessarily all in one camp all the time. he is very fair and very levelheaded. he will be able to assign all of you to your public -- particular committees based on the expertise to make sure the city is running in an appropriate way i hope you will support supervisor yee for your next
11:06 am
president. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> hello. my name is gladys. i'm representing one of the oldest nonprofit organizations in the mission. >> can you please speak very close to the microphone? >> i'm here with my colleagues. we are in support of hillary. i believe she has some things to say. >> can you finish your comments first and then we will go to each speaker. >> sure. like i said to, i represent one of the longest nonprofit organizations in san francisco. i am pretty sure you are familiar with us. >> thank you for your comments. please, cap next speaker. >> my name is diana. and we are from a nonprofit employment agency, we are here to support hillary ronen or president of the board of supervisors.
11:07 am
she is a compassionate, determinant -- determinate and effective leader. within the last few years, as district nine supervisor kaci has been committed to tackling our homelessness program and has produced results. alongside with devon, they have dedicated a morning every week with -- for several weeks to clean up what many of our janitors would not pick up at our 16th street train station. she also has over six years with a legal fine -- firm, organizing to get unpaid wages for domestic workers, and day labourers. alongside the chief of staff with the former district nine supervisor, where she helped craft some legislation that helped our city his families teachers, youth and facilitate the development of affordable housing. hillary ronen's passion, or
11:08 am
fearlessness, and commitment to foster a better san francisco is what we need in the next president of the board of supervisors. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> good afternoon. i am an episcopal preach and i work in the mission district. first of all, congratulations to the new supervisors. thank you for stepping forward. for ordinary civilians like myself, this is an embarrassment -- embarrassment of riches. it will be a very critical and important year. thank you. if i recommend supervisor running for presidency, i have seen her work close up. i know how good she will be in this role. our district in the mission, as you know, is ground zero for many of the issues facing the larger safety. homelessness, gentrification, police brutality, the assault on hard-working immigrant families.
11:09 am
i have seen supervisor ronen wade into some of these issues. where to locate a navigation centre? how to create and maintain a sanctuary for immigrants? how to keep the plaza safe and clean, how to keep our families from being displaced. in each case, she argues her position persuasively and clearly, while at the same time listening carefully to the other voices and moving the conversation forward. she is not too passionate or too ambitious for the job. i cannot believe we are still having conversations like this. right now our city is under attack by the current white house. not only are they not working for us, they are working against us. they are coming after us. given this, is it possible for anyone, male or female, to be too passionate clot maybe you saw a tweet this morning in which he quoted dr king.
11:10 am
the question is not whether we will be extremists, but what kind of extremists we will be. will we be extremists for hate or love? supervisor ronen is in an extremists of love and i strongly recommend her for board president. thank you. >> to the members of the public gallery, please hold your comments until after the president president has been elected. >> hello. i am a proud member of the san francisco latino democratic club , and i also and the print producing host of an independent radio program, and we cater to the latino community. that is why i know that hillary is the champion for the latino community. she is a weekly guest of hours. all you supervisors are invited. all you have to do is call me. but the reason i know that hillary is so vital to our communities because of the feedback that we get.
11:11 am
district nine, even though it has been highly gentrified, it is still the latino community, and will always be the latino community. hillary represents the values. she speaks the language and people in the mission rely on her and love her. she is a champion for domestic workers which are highly made up of latinos. she fights hard to maintain the century city because yes, we are under attack, and we will continue to be under attack and we need someone like hillary in san francisco to defend not only the latino community, but all the immigrant community. she rolled up her sleeves, and she went to work and went to clean up the 16th street plaza she tackled needles, trash, excrement, and she did it with a smile. she instituted a sharp program, office of sexual harassment for women when women don't have a place to go because nobody listens to them. they just sat them on the shoulder and told them to go home. now she has done that for all
11:12 am
women. she worked closely with horace mann middle school for the kids who don't have a place to sleep. now they have a place to sleep at night. all these kids who became homeless through no fault of their own. thank you for that. i will always be grateful for that. she is a strong champion for criminal justice reform. she not only talks the talk, but she walks the walk. please, hillary ronen for president of the board of supervisors. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> [speaking spanish] >> voice of translator: she is here to support as a member of the community to support hillary ronen. >> you are welcome to use the other microphone. [speaking spanish] >> voice of translator: i have lived here for 20 years in the city. [speaking spanish]
11:13 am
>> voice of translator: as an assistant for compost. [speaking spanish] >> voice of translator: she has shown the love for the people in san francisco and the people who live here. [speaking spanish] >> voice of translator: it is important to have somebody on the board of supervisors as a president who knows the needs of san francisco because she has walked the streets. [speaking spanish] >> voice of translator: as a low-income person who lives in san francisco, i'm here to thank her and supporter, but i know we
11:14 am
don't have to be poor forever. she will help influence us to get out of poverty. [speaking spanish] >> voice of translator: he will not be long -- wrong if you elect her. good luck to you. [speaking spanish] >> next speaker, please. >> hello. my name is sarah. i work with the san francisco childcare providers association supporting early care educators throughout the city. i am going to look at my notes because time comes up fast. i want to congratulate all the new supervisors. i look forward to working with each of you and i am excited by your elections. i appeal to you to work together on your first decision to elect a board president with a track record on the board for supporting people and addressing issues in our vital and wealthy city. i welcome the nominations, and
11:15 am
the strengths of advent -- advocacy. quietly or with fight as long as it is done with dedication and passion. while i promote to women, i also value support for key issues. supervisor yee has been central to advocacy for early care and education, both expanding services and addressing the two low wages -- the too low wages of the workforce. as women's lifetime earnings are affected, and access to childcare, this is a core issue for women. i support supervisor yee's long-term dedication to this because. i urge you to consider a candidate with long-term history on the board, and commitment to equity issues. you have a difficult choice before you. both of these candidates are qualified, but i urge you to choose between the two of them. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please.
11:16 am
>> good afternoon. my name is maria, and i am a childcare advocate, and i have been an advocate for 23 years. during all this time, i have never been to a board meeting where i will ask to support a certain candidates. we have a lot of candidates. hillary, you are in my great deals you are great but today i will go for norman. i will tell you why. i have known him for 20 years when i was a childcare planning advisory committee. he was also the executive director of the children services. he was a school board member, a school board president, and norman so far is, you know -- in my experience, our strongest ally, and because of that, i strongly urge you to support norman. i also did my research, and know that his record proves itself.
11:17 am
he worked in pedestrian safety, he worked in the participatory budget. he supported initiatives and children and families and corporate accountability, senior support services, and improving a lot of things. norman has proven what he can do , and i think this time we need someone who can unite to the board when the country is divided, we need someone who can unite us, and whoever wins today , whoever you think is the best person, please do so, and we love you all. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> hello. i am a san francisco voter. i am born and raised in san francisco, and i am also a former san francisco youth commissioner. being an advocate is a marathon, it is not a sprint. norman he has a long track after record of 20 years in san francisco. he supports our entire city. he advocates for children,
11:18 am
families, and seniors. he holds corporations accountable, he stands up for pedestrians, and i am someone who has lived in the city for 42 years and i've never had a car. i take this very seriously for someone who stands up for us every day. there have been a lot of children who have been hit by crossing the street, as well as adults. some have even died. lastly, he's also about making sure all the san francisco residents participate in budget processes. it is important to me. i think sometimes when we are not in public office, were impacted by what decisions get made in here so it is important to have an official who bring the community into being part of the decision-making. that is why i recommend norman yee. thank you so much. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker. >> good afternoon. i i'm a long-time mission resident. i went to elementary, middle school, and high school in san francisco. i have been a longtime advocate for 20 years for young people and higher risk people in the
11:19 am
city. people who the city has many times forgotten about, or did not provide good enough services you see the inequity and the racism in this city for some of the conditions of the young people to live in. all the years of my life you're, i have learned a few things. the foundation that every friendship or relationship is built on a foundation of integrity, honesty, and action. i vote for hillary. i hope you vote for hillary, because she has shown nothing but integrity and hard work. when you look at the dedication and her track record within the community, she has stood on the side of people who needed the most help. that is what we need to. we need someone who has values and integrity and honesty. my support, my vote for my community is all behind one help -- hillary 100%. i hope you made the best decision for san francisco and all its residents. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker. >> good afternoon, honorable
11:20 am
supervisors and elected family. i'm the executive director of homey. this is a really rambunctious, allowed, mission crowd outside. i don't know if you know that. and to the overflow room, there is quite a lot of people listening in. the mission community has come out for our sister in arms. she has come out with protests to community meetings, to countless, countless activities for our community, has supported many, many issues that are important to our community, time , and time, in time, and time again. today we are out here urging your support, urging the newly elected family to support our sister in arms, hillary ronen, and i ask you in my deepest of hearts to do this for us.
11:21 am
our communities in crisis, as you know, and father richards said it. we are at the epicenter of many different issues, homelessness, housing, and the person we can always rely on, every time, is hillary ronen. and so i ask you, from the bottom of my heart, and from the rambunctious crowd that is outside that support her, support hillary ronen. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker. >> hello. i will keep this short because you have not had a shortage of speakers, and you have plenty of things to do. i work with various nonprofits, but i'm speaking today as someone who is a native san franciscan, who has lived here for 30 years, congratulations to the new supervisors. this is a monument is time for san francisco. the big elephant in the room is that we have a progressive board
11:22 am
i know some of you may have made up your minds, but this time will not come up again. you may not have another chance to have a truly progressive board of supervisor president. you need someone who will not just run meetings and make sure that everybody agrees, you need someone who will have the vocal voice. this is an amazing platform. not to run meetings, but for the city of san francisco. your president is a true progressive who has an equal footing for the mayor. that is hillary ronen. whether you like her, whether you agree with everything she says, she is a voice that will push the progressive agenda. i see the progress of supervisors there right now. you still have time. we haven't voted yet. you really have to think who is going to be a voice that will be on the news, that will be in the newspaper that is really going to make change happen? they will not run meetings or create agendas, but what do you really need in san francisco now
11:23 am
caught the time may not come again. this is a time. i really hope that you take a moment before you vote and really think to your next board president would be. i personally hope that is hillary. thank you. >> supervisors, my name is richard lau. i am supporting norman yee to be your president of the board. it is a very cold winter and the rain is coming. we have lots of homeless people in this city. i am sure that supervisor yee will provide a safety net for our homeless so that they have a place to rest and spend their time and before he becomes running for school board and supervisors, he worked as a
11:24 am
peace crew or the head start in chinatown. when you went into their organization, just one head start school. he spent 15 years when he left. that is his record of public service. after that, building up all these schools, he went for the board of education. the students benefit from him and his policies, and then we heard so much that the formation , when they were babies starting with two years old, and then the city should be spending more money for the head start and norman yee will hitch the
11:25 am
way. he cannot do this all by himself he needs the whole supervisors who support him as the president president of board of supervisors. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker. >> i will interpret for mr james lim. [speaking foreign language] >> voice of translator: i'm here to support norman yee as the next president of the board. [speaking foreign language]
11:26 am
>> voice of translator: if a man is a new immigrant -- he has been here more than 20 years now he had a penmanship with mr norman. >> he is a gentleman and a scholar that has a relationship with everybody. >> when he was in the school board to, he had a very high reputation for the benefit of the students. [speaking foreign language] >> voice of translator: his number 1 priority is training them right. training them young.
11:27 am
>> voice of translator: he also become the president of the board of education. >> voice of translator: he devoted his energy from morning to midnight into the further education for the young. [speaking foreign language] >> voice of translator: he really put in a good effort and with good results. [speaking foreign language] >> voice of translator: and then he became a supervisor.
11:28 am
[speaking foreign language] >> voice of translator: he passed lots of good legislations [speaking foreign language] >> voice of translator: he also put forward for the start for the low income family and it will be free for the children's education. [speaking foreign language] >> voice of translator: it benefited the low income family and the children had a good head start for their schooling. [speaking foreign language]
11:29 am
>> voice of translator: lots of people benefit with these legislations, and we are surgeon that president norman yee will do a good job. thank you. [speaking foreign language] >> voice of translator: the train travels fast depending the energy and dedication of the train's head. >> thank you for your comments. thank you. [laughter] >> i am a deputy public defender and native san franciscan. ms. miss ronen possesses
11:30 am
personal traits that we have seen in great leaders. above and beyond basic qualifications for the job, she has consistently advocated for righteous civil rights, causes such as women's rates medical care, criminal justice reform and education. these are things that advance all of humanity forward to, all of us, all san franciscans, for all of the supervisors in all of the districts. she has integrity that she habitually demonstrates when she does good, when nobody is looking. not because she's going to get some benefit or political favor, or personal gain. she does it because it is the right thing. is the human thing. regardless of how inconvenient it may need to her. -- it maybe to her. she has consistently been
11:31 am
courageous, which inspires us motivates us makes us wonder why when she has health care, she has education, and she has had women's rates. -- women's rights. she has not had to abandon her political point of view because she is so courageous when exercising her diplomacy. she has never had to give one up for the other. let me say that politics is not about being like-minded, it is actually quite the contrary. it is about finding the complementary interfaces among our differences and how exciting with the thought to be. let's think for a second the thought of mayor breed and miss ronen working together to bring the two halves together to make san francisco whole. see how she has opened up the doors to city hall to all san franciscans. >> thank you for your comments. [applause]
11:32 am
>> next speaker, please. >> good afternoon. my name is rosario. i am with district 11. i'm here to congratulate the newly appointed supervisors, matt haney, rafael mandelman, shamann walton, and gordon mark, but i'm also here to support hillary ronen. i totally believe in her. she is 100% for the city of san francisco. she fights for affordable housing, she works with homelessness, she also is not afraid to clean up a station. she has so much integrity, she is a negotiator, she will work across the board, she worked with our city and she is really deeply committed. this testimony of all these people that have come out to speak on her behalf shows how much san francisco sees her power and her fierceness, and i know she will get the work done because she already has.
11:33 am
she worked for a supervisor for six years and then she did her years as a supervisor and a totally support her. i hope all the board of supervisors will give her your vote too. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> good afternoon, supervisors. i i'm with that latino cultural districts. congratulations to all the new supervisors. it will be an exciting 2019. i wanted to do what everyone has been saying about hillary ronen pick one thing that stands out for us in the mission district, we are a community and crisis, we are a neighborhood that has been experiencing a lot of displacement and gentrification. hillary has been able to help negotiate during these tough times, especially with developers bringing a lot of differences to the table finding a median that everyone can agree on. that really stands out for me for hillary. the other piece, the culture district legislation that was written by hillary has benefited all neighborhoods in san francisco and at this point, we
11:34 am
are getting calls from texas, chicago, san diego, looking at the model here. this is someone we can look up to. someone who will take what is happening in san francisco, and it will grow nationally. i think we need to support our supervisor, hillary ronen. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> hello. my name is bob. supervisor ronen, this is pretty cool, all this praise and always kudos, and you are not even dead [laughter] >> i thank you all should vote for her because she is the best. >> thank you. [laughter] [applause] >> next speaker, please. >> good afternoon. i want to strongly voice my support for supervisor hillary ronen. i'm not going to repeat why,
11:35 am
that has already been said, but there's something very disturbing, and actually downright shameful going on. trying to pin a woman because she is or was -- outspoken, because she fights for the rights of others, i wonder if that would be happening if it was a man behaving that way. it wouldn't. there is a lot of sexism going on here come on, you are supposed to be better than that, okay? supervisor ronen will work with the mayor, but i don't want to just someone who can work with the mayor. i want someone who has the courage to stand up to the mayor when necessary on behalf of all of san franciscans. go, hillary ronen. [cheers and applause] >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> good afternoon. congratulations to the new supervisors. i'm from district six.
11:36 am
my name is deborah. i am going to -- fortunately or unfortunately, echoed the sentiments of all the people that came before me, and urge the supervisors to vote for hillary, because i genuinely believe that she is the best person to sit in this seat. that seat has power, and that seat has importance, and that seat is a valuable seat that we need a woman sitting in. we need a woman butting heads with another woman. i think that it's incumbent upon the city to recognize that norman he is a great person, and he brings a lot of sterling qualities, but at this moment in time, and in history, i believe that hillary is a person to be sitting in that seat. thank you so much the neck thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> him from district five. i urge you to vote for hillary
11:37 am
ronen for president of the board we have a progressive majority on the board of supervisors. congratulations. now please stop the inviting. this division does not bode well for the progressive community who finally achieved a victory full of possibilities. please don't squander this moment. hillary ronen should be the next president of the board of supervisors. she is experienced, a tough negotiator, she is fearless and tireless. she is an unabashed and and confused aggressive. of those are the characteristics needed for board president. it is a leadership role, a big picture role, in negotiator role she has been effective in bringing people together in her district, in epicenter of conflict, where she has faced deeply opposing interests. surely she can be effective in dealing with disparate interests among the supervisors. i am deeply appreciative of normandy. he is an honorable, compassionate, effective resident representative. but we need a strong, dynamic
11:38 am
leader. there are powerful forces that have, and will continue to undermine progressive san francisco values, particularly economic justice. we need a leader who will strongly resist those forces. that is what the people of san francisco voted for in november. these come together, support hillary ronen for board president his. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> supervisors, congratulations to all the candidates who have won. my name is dennis, and i am a native san franciscan. i have supported almost all of the supervisors that are here over the years, and they stand in support of hillary ronen for president of the board board his the reason is simple. you look at a vote of two people i know them both, i really like norman he -- norman yee.
11:39 am
i'm also a district five representative. i have also supported sandra lee fewer in district one because i think she is fabulous. and i have supported a number of others if you, including matt haney, and mandelman, and so on, but i think what we need now is exactly what laurie just described. we need leadership at a time when we need to move forward on a progressive agenda that has been so undermined by the likes of ron conway and willie brown, and others in this city. money and tech have done that, and the leadership in this city has been all too often compliance, or not resistant enough. i think it is pretty clear that hillary is willing to be that kind of leader, and it is a leadership role. as somebody who is a labor negotiator for 17 years, and i did to do a lot of hard bargaining, is always a question of not compromising the values and the important things that
11:40 am
were required from members of the workforce is, and i think that she would also not compromise those, and would work with all of you in order to achieve the best possible results, we need to push back, and you need a leader who can push back, and i really like norman yee, but that is not who i think he is at this point. and i think this is where hillary is at this point in her spirit thank you. >> thank you for your comments. before the next speaker speaks, 15 members of the public are standing in line comprise the remainder of the public comment, but i will say, if there are individuals from route -- room 263 who want to come up and speak, now is your opportunity to get in line. next speaker, please. >> good afternoon. my name is felicia. i'm a tenant organizer for central city s.r.o. collaborative. i am here in support of hillary
11:41 am
because we all know that if matt was up for president today, i would vote yes for matt, but we all know he will be extremely busy fixing the problems in the tenderloin, south of market area , so he will be too busy. hillary, you got it. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> hello. congratulations to everyone. >> can use the microphone a little closer. thank you. >> there you are, okay. i'm up here today to support hillary ronen. when i moved here, i worked on the mark leno campaign, and got to know hillary really well, and i think that she is somebody who , lest we forget, has stood up and advocated for a lot of people sitting in the seats, i think it is time you return the favor. she is the person for the job. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please.
11:42 am
>> high, good afternoon. my name is magic, and i have been an activist focused on issues and not on people, so i am supporting hillary because of something she said to me a while ago. and what my deepest concern is, is about the children who are being separated from their families, and i will not stop until san francisco gets i.c.e. out of this city. sandra fewer gave her worried that she would present a resolution to abolish i.c.e., and hillary, when i asked if she would support such a resolution. this is my deepest concern. when i first spoke to the woman, there were no children that had died. two children have died now. two children have died in america. the problem is not people crossing the borders, it is corporations that freely go to any country, exploits their population and their labor, cap next rates of poverty that these people are driven to come here to be helped.
11:43 am
since we cause these problems, we need to help them. in our own mission district, the owner of a story of a story has been investigated. he is a citizen. because he is it from africa still shift -- it was not created for that. we need to get i.c.e. out of this city, and stop them from harassing our people. on that because i. support hillary ronen. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> good afternoon. congratulations to all the people who have worked so hard to get here. my name is, i am just here is a citizen of san francisco. i have great admiration and respect for norman yee, but i am here in support of hillary ronen
11:44 am
character because moderate and conservative powers have certainly shown that they are really passionate about forcing their agenda on our safety, with millions of dollars being poured into our district elections to try and buy our supervisors' seats, and they have been defeated time after time because of the passion of working san franciscans to reclaim our city, investing a lot of time and energy since we don't have money to elect a progressive board like the one we have here now. it would take passion, as well as intelligence and experience to move this city in a more compassionate direction, for all of the children, and homeless, and working poor. i believe we need a strong woman 's voice and the president 's physician, especially with the majority of men on the board now. we all would benefit from hillary ronen's leadership on the board of supervisors. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> hello. happy new year everybody, and
11:45 am
many congratulations to the new supervisors. i am, lipscomb -- we wrote a brief letter on thursday evening to the board about this procedure today. it is signed by betty traynor, was a president of the board, and jessica lehman, who is the executive director. dear supervisors, senior and disability action works closely with the board of supervisors on policy issues and city budget decisions. we have a stake in the election of the next board president. we hope you will take a moment to consider our concerns. based on our experience of the past 20 plus years, we believe it is important that the president be someone with experience on the board, someone who has a clear track record, the president should be someone who focuses on the needs of marginalized communities, far more than the needs of corporations, far more than the
11:46 am
needs of corporations and developers. and someone with demonstrated commitment and ability to put together complex programs for public benefit. while honoring the different branches of the government, the president must, of course, work with the mayor, in at the same time, maintain political independence, and at the same time, maintain political independence. thank you very much. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> good afternoon, supervisors. kelly hill, and i am in support of hillary ronen for board president. bold ideas, strength, and resolve in the difficult policy debates are the leadership qualities that are going to move this city forward to. in the years since taking office , she has taken the baton like an olympic runner, and sprinted out was speedy, strength and purpose. she has accomplishments in leadership and they have been bright moments and beacons of hope in the district, and easily visible for the greater good of the city. district nine is an amazing
11:47 am

progressive politics, it was not just we are progressive city, and like all cities, we have people here who want to exploit us in a good way. you want to build streets, they want to build buildings, the unions want to have jobs, these are all good things, but when it affects us profoundly at the government, at city hall so common people like me and all of us here who are activists in the neighborhood can no longer participate in an honest and transparent process, we need is someone like hillary, not only to speak eloquently to all of us as citizens, spread to all of you as fellow politicians, as fellow supervisors. i believe the moment that she spoke about ron count -- conway and other people who have such a profound influence in the santee in the city, is a moment i hope none of us will ever forget. it was an emotional moment. and for those of us were activists in the neighborhoods, we were reminded why so often we are disenfranchised, not permitted to prove dissipate and everything that is happening at city hall. i have been told by supervisors, friends of mine, that what matters in politics is money,
11:52 am
and i'm naïve to think that anything else will ever matter. that is a sad comment on who we are as progressives, because i know money matters. we all have to pay our bills, eat, find a place to rent, to the point is, as progressives, we have to go around that insidious effect of money and politics, and only one person, i believe, is willing and able to do that, and that is hillary ronen. i thank you all for being our supervisors and caring enough about the city to take your time and energy, and take risks for all of us, and please vote for hillary today for board president. thank you. >> thank you for your comments. next speaker, please. >> if we go the way of hillary, kelly put this up, i would like to read a portion that would be appropriate. >> san francisco government t.v. , please. >> norman is the lesser of the two evils. if we go the way of hillary, it will be the way of the nazis, to tell you the truth. i will read a portion here on page 77.

calm down, now. let's have some respect. the isis is trying to protect us that is what they're trying to do. -- the i.c.e. is trying to protect us. that is what they're trying to do. another thing is, come on. god made us male and female. we all know that. some mail -- members of the public can't allow him to be met most of us are not homosexuals but some made us homosexuals. some females are lesbians and some are not. even in san francisco, most females are not lesbians, but they are females. we know it constitute -- what constitutes a female, and we know what constitutes a male, and this is why jesus said, in the beginning, god made them male and female, and what god has joined together, not man can separate hillary ronen called

first of all, congratulations class 2019, really happy you are all there, i am actually speaking -- when i would like to speak to my support for hillary, i have worked with her for years now, before when she was in the labor program, and after that when she was at david compost's office, and especially now when she has been such a strong support around issues of tenant protections and criminal rights -- community rights. [laughter] >> i do think that this is a time where this past year we were under attack on so many fronts, and i want to speak to that, actually, which is who will be able to be able to bring these issues to a forefront, who will be able to push back on the federal level, when these cuts are happening, or the shutdowns, on these cuts are happening, both in public housing, also in terms of the i.c.e. attacks, in

terms of the general homophobia that has taken over the whole nation, who will be able to do that, i really strongly support hillary in that way. i would like to say that i have been around for a while, and more importantly than this vote, it is the unity we need to have going forward. if anything, the speaker before, the wonderful thing was his he brought us all together in unity that feeling you had about what he was saying, is what you need to carry forward to moving forward. it does not matter who is voted, honestly, it means you need to figure out how to work better together, and we need to support you in doing that. i hope that moving forward with all the divisions, we will lead you to what has brought you to this office but to work with us in the community, and change the world to what we want to see. >> thank you for your comments. [applause]
