here today and for all of your messages of support throughout my youth of the year journey. your encouragement has truly meant so much to me. this journey is not something that happened overnight. throughout this process, i spent many weeks away from the city, spent many nights working 12-hour days, doing my come and coming back just in time to get to class. by the time i finished elementary school i saw the beast of poverty. i ran out of fingers to count

the youth in my community that lost their lives to gun violence. the club made sure to stay open the nights of shootings, making it so we would have a caring and dependable place to go when it wasn't safe to go home. the club gave me a place where i could be my authentic self. the club showed me the power of a good education and encouraged me to go into private school. it wasn't easy. i found my sense of self slipping away as i switched between environments, but i could always find myself back at the club, a place i didn't have to alter who i was. every tragedy and piece of divert that i went through in my community, the club was right there to help me through it. when everything in the world seemed hopeless and motivation was hard to find, the club was a

place i could find positivity. the club gave me the tools i wanted to foster to see the positivity in the world. they taught me how to be a leader and gave me the space to show other kids what to look up to. the club did so much for me and does so much for other kids. boys and girls clubs of san francisco is an incredible force. i honestly wouldn't be the person i am today if it weren't were the club. thank you again for this honor to speak to you today. and i look forward to recognizing sfrik with great pride over the year and as the 2019-20 youth of the year.

>> thank you. next speaker, please. >> i work at the mission pharmacy. as a specialty pharmacy, mission hill serves patients who have h.i.v., hepatitis, substance use. the pharmacy has been located in the mission district since 1978 and has a long-standing history in the community. recently the department of healthcare service sincere reimburses pharmacies across the state for specialty medications. this reimbursement has had a devastating impact on mission wellness pharmacy and other pharmacies in san francisco and across the state. community-based pharmacies represent the most accessible healthcare providers -- healthcare access to vulnerable patients. we provide bubble packages.

we depend on local community pharmacies to provide specialty medications to our patients. not only do these pharmacies provide the medications for our patients, but they also place them in adherence packaging, making it easier for the patients to take their medications as described. these community pharmacies deliver the medications to the patients' homes. if we lose these community pharmacies because they can no longer afford to stay open or stop providing services, we will lose our fight to keep patients on their medications. >> thank you. next speaker, please. >> thank you, supervisor ronen, for bringing this important

issue forward. i am the vice president for the center of advocacy for the california pharmacists' association. the drastic reduction in the medical reimbursement rate for pharmacists have been devastating. they have already resulted in numerous closures of community pharmacies all over california. the patients who need these medications the most are those suffering with h.i.v., aids, behavioral health issues, et cetera, just to name a few. as the former speaker stated, community pharmacies don't just stand behind the counters, we know that these are the individuals going out to the homeless camps in the county and providing the medication to the individuals. we know we have a mental health crisis in the state of california, and without these pharmacists who are willing to go into those communities to make sure that those individuals are getting their injections, taking their medicines as

anymore. i showed her the rad guidance and the mayor's office has told us we don't go by that anymore. this is the new fourth rescission that we've been working on. we're constantly given false information from them. notice that also in the mayor's -- this draft here, that they -- when they dig sewage, they send everything out to the neighborhood and that informs them what's happening. this draft, nobody in public housing received that draft or saying that there's a draft being done. we are not getting information out of anyone from the mayor's office. right now under the rad program is at washington now. we need help trying to slow it

ruined my hometown city. l.a. bulldozed over parks and replaced them with freeways and that continues to this day. that is what this project and the plans drawn by this group represents to me. it will bulldoze the hill, cram in a walkway. and as a large retail complex where it does not belong at the intersection of four family neighborhoods. if this is truly about housing, then we need to build housing on this site, only housing. the community alternative achieves the objectives that the city says that it wants, housing. not only that, but it is done without defacing the very things

affordable housing to paying the opt-out option back to the city. we are being treated as if this is a done deal, even though we are a strong voice of reason for our neighbors. we hope that you soften your hearts about this. the developer finds -- our plan does not include chopping down 200-plus magnificent trees inside and outside of the property. i had my office at 3333. i am a neighbor. i forgot to mention that. we want to use our green spaces and breathe the air.

the canopy is 32.5. it would be chopping down like a whole urban forest that doesn't need to be chopped down. our community variant plan to you provides 558 or 744 invariant housing units with senior and affordable housing and daycare centers and cafeteria. the building of it would be about five years less time the developer, 15 years our community variant plan does not include adding an overwhelming amount of commercial and retail space, allowing businesses to run from 6:00 to 2:00 a.m. the developer insists that we will harm our neighborhood community by -- anyway our plan does not venerate 15,000 tons of

pharmacy reimbursements for covered specialty medications. >> first i just wanted to thank all the individuals, pharmacists, and organizations who came out to speak on behalf of this resolution today. when i first learned about the situation, it made no sense to me. but i also learned a lot about community pharmacies. we have an extraordinary community pharmacy in the mission district called mission community wellness. maria, the pharmacist and founder, spoke today. i've been a life-long keizer patient, so i've had no relationship with pharmacists whatever. you go in and get your meds, and may have a brief consultation. that's not what mission wellness does. what it does is it everybody --

serves as a confidant, someone to help the patients stay current and take these specialty medications for complicated diagnoses like h.i.v., aids, like severe mental illness. and often their clients are h e homeless or barely housed. the pharmacists go above and beyond. they package medications in a way that it's obvious and easy how to take them each day. they often hold the medication at the pharmacy so that individuals who are afraid of losing their meds because they're experiencing homelessness know that they can come there every single day and take it and not miss a dose. it seems like something of the past that hardly exists anymore. here we have a nonsensical decision on the part of

department of healthcare services that cuts these services for these life-saving specialty meds that is making it impossible for these pharmacies to continue and stay around. the amount that these pharmacies are losing on every prescription that they fill is going to make them obsolete in no time. the least that we can do is pass this resolution today, urging this state to reverse its non-sensical decision to improperly reimburse for these medications. please also know that our office is working with senator weiner who will have a meeting with health care services urging them and explaining how important it is for them to reverse their decision here. hopefully we will make some headway there. in the meantime he will be

added as a sponsor. if you all recall, last year we did a piece of legislation that had to do with surplus medication from nursing homes and other places rather than throwing them away. we were able to work with our city pharmacists and have these medications distributed to patients through many of our neighborhood clinics and pharmacies. without the survival of neighborhood pharmacies, we're not the able to get to patients who don't have access to cheaper medications. so that legislation was married to these neighborhood pharmacies and clinics. this is an important resolution and we're hopeful that senator weiner is successful at the state level as well as the rest of our state delegation. to you to supervisor ronen and all the advocates from the neighborhood clinics and pharmacies who talked about the importance of keeping this.

sustainability mission, even though the bikes are very minimal energy use. it still matters where the energy comes from and also part of the mission in sustainability is how we run everything, run our business. so having the lights come on with clean energy is important to us as well. we heard about cleanpowersf and learned they had commercial rates and signed up for that. it was super easy to sign up. our bookkeeper signed up online, it was like 15 minutes. nothing has changed, except now we have cleaner energy. it's an easy way to align your environmental proclivities and goals around climate change and it's so easy that it's hard to not want to do it, and it doesn't really add anything to

community. >> we have a ten-person limb elimination match. we have a full-size ring with barside food and drink. we ended up getting wrestling here with puoillo del mar. we're hope og get families to join us. we've done a drag queen bingo and we're trying to be a diverse kind of club, trying different things. this is a great part of town and there's a bunch of shops, a variety of stores and ethnic restaurants. there's a popular little shop that all of the kids like to hanhang out at. we have a great breakfast spot call brick fast at tiffanies. some of the older businesses are refurbished and newer businesses are coming in and it's exciting.
