6:01 am
favorite teacher is cut. the program that makes school worth going to will not be funding. students deserve to have those programs. taking away the funding is taking away those programs. like everyone else said i urge you to reconsider the agreement. >> thank you. >> i am frustrated to hear ap prep classes might be cut. i am frustrated to hear genned teachers never had the prep periods to begin with. it is important to note that there is an inequity in our system when the only teachers who got prep periods were ap teachers. i am never in favor of cutting anything. if we are the equitable district

[roll call] >> as we know, given recent changes, there will be a shift within this board of education that needs acknowledgement. understanding the disheartening nature of how we have been forced to operate over the last 1.5 years but also realizing our need to move forward together for our students, it has encouraged many communities across san francisco to take action, feel heard, and be a part of this space.
6:07 am
my hope is that does not change; that we continue to uplift communities that tend to be forgotten, the very ones that we come from, and that we represent. as president, i spent the better part of my role in sharing collaboration across our board, communities, noting the importance of us being aligned during strenuous and unprecedented times. so long as we continue to prioritize those with the least, i know that we will all benefit. our work is not done, and our relationships with those in san francisco will continue to grow and strengthen after our changes are in place, and i look forward to strengthening the services required to serve the san francisco unified school district. let's begin with action a, general information, moving
6:08 am
onto section b, land acknowledgement. we, the san francisco unified school district, acknowledge that we are on the ancestral homeland of the ramaytush ohlone of the san francisco peninsula. as guests, we recognize that we benefit from living and working on their traditional homeland. we wish to pay our respects by acknowledging the ancestors, elders, and members of the ramaytush ohlone community and by acknowledging their sovereign rights as first peoples. item 2, approval of board minutes, regular meeting of february 8, 2022.

covid cases, the san francisco department of public health reported a seven-day new covid-19 case per day average of 339. this is down from over 2,000. >> the current statewide mandate of masking for students and educators will remain in place as part of our layered approach to reduce the spread of covid-19 in our schools.
6:11 am
all students and adults, regardless of vaccine status, must wear masks that cover nose, mouth, and chins at all times except if eating, drinking, or napping or if they have a medical exemption. face masks outdoors continue to be optional and are not required. schools can sign up for officer hours and representatives will be available live to [indiscernible] kit activation process. very important to note, we have also received a one-time

6:13 am
please talk to your families. we still believe that the best way to prevent the worst symptoms of covid-19 is to get vaccinated and then boosted. moving on, the superintendent's 21 century scholarship awards, we are now accepting applications for these awards. each year, we honor six students with the superintendent's 21 century award scholarship of $6,000. these are students who exemplify the san francisco unified school district graduate profile and it is san francisco unified's goal for

family from way back. she was nominated for many reasons, but one is that she really went above and beyond during the fall semester to make sure that students had the learning materials they needed from making sure that students had what they needed at home to delivering what students needed at home. we're really proud of her and happy that she's receiving this award this evening. miss wong? >> thank you. i really appreciate the recognition, and i want to acknowledge that i couldn't do it on my own. i really feel indebted to the glen park community and my principal, miss zar, along with all the families and students, and i felt that i have learned

from my peers as well as from the students themselves, so i'm just the teacher, i'm a learner along with them? and i just want to acknowledge that my mom was an employee of the district. she was a para -- or she began as a volunteer in my brother's kindergarten class, and then, she was asked if she would like to become a para, so she became a para in the general ed classroom, and then, she applied to be a special ed para, so i do want to give a shoutout to special ed paras because i know what they have done and how they go above and beyond, and i just want to thank everybody for helping me get to this point, so thank you so much. staff, communities, and curriculums. we are tired of fighting for diversity in our staff and curriculums and when we get that, we are tired of it being taken away from us. [indiscernible] younger teachers bring diversity and new perspectives to our schools. we need to keep these teachers that students love because they keep students in school. i'm worried of our grad student union teacher mr. cho because he has been there for us over and over again. he will be there when we need someone to listen to us, and if he leaves, who will be there to listen to us? thank you very much. >> clerk: thank you. hello, ari? sorry if i mispronounce it.
