what i envision will be improved earlier intervention system benchmark system i know janelle is very present in these spaces, but i want to know whether there is interface and is this introduction or roll out going to involve any partnership with your department to insure you have access to that information because a lot is going to rely on reports your agency is generating? >> we had discussion with the department and they are limited because of where benchmark is now with the development, so the main thing we have to do and as relayed is make sure the information that can be shared across match the fields and information you are sharing. i have to use my hands. our data base has fields where we input information. we have to make sure those fields whatever it is matches the same

fields or have fieldss built on benchmark side, and so part is in the development process and so we started talking to the department about getting access or able to create some dashboard but only in the preliminary stages where we want to help and do these things, but we have been told they are far away being able to create anything now so put it on hold until we figure what fields we are able to create and have in the system because we can't connect our fields to their fields until they know what fields they have, which is why we propose-that allow to create something through sales force that we can connect and i give a estimate of 8 months but sure we can have it created in 3 or 4 months, but that would give us the ability to be able to connect data and allow us to get ready for benchmark is prepared. we were told we will get access to benchmark, what that is not sure so we

will see in the future hopefully as talks continue. matching the fields and getting the information in the architectural stage is key. >> since you asked and brought it up, the issue is what will be available is something different then what can be shared and what we receive and as you recall i asked for that budget to be included in the technology development when the department was getting the benchmark contract for a bridge so the information can be shared and to date my understanding is that we still don't have a budget for that so even after it is built all of the supplemental supplies or supplemental build out that has to be done on the dpa side is unfunded. there is no budget for that unless i'm missing something. >> we dont have budget for that at this time. >> it is still-we are moving in- >> would you have any information about how

what is that for? >> what is this? these are fire engines they might look alike they are both red. white top and red lights on top. this is a new 2021 fire engine and this is an older 2014 fire engine. if you can't tell, this one is shorter and narrower than our older fire engines. they have cool things like recessed lights. roll up doors. 360 degree cam ares and more that is important as the city is moving toward slower and safer streets adding parklets and bulb outs and bike lanes we need to decrease our footprint to keep us and the community safer on emergency scenes. >> what's back there? >> when is not guilty fire engine. great question. i want to see, sure. >> let's go back and look at the equipment and the fire pump on

the fire engine. >> this is a fire pump. it is cool all the colors and all that. this fire pump and this engine holds 500 gallons of water that is a lot. >> a lot of water. >> it is push out 1500 gallons a minute of water. we can lose our 500 gammons quickly. why we use hoses like this to connect to a fire hydrant and that gives us unlimited amount of water to help put a fire out temperature is important we have enough fire engine in san francisco to put fires out. so we can reduce the injuries and minimize loss of life and minimize property damage. we're sitting inside a computer lab where residents come and get support when they give help about how to set up an e-mail account. how to order prescriptions online. create a résumé. we are also now paying attention to provide tech support. we have collaborated with the san francisco mayor's office and the department of technology to implement a broad band network for the residents here so they can have free internet access. we have partnered with community technology networks to provide computer classes to the seniors and the residents. so this computer lab becomes a hub for the community to learn how to use technology, but that's the parents and the adults. we have been able to identify what we call a stem date. the acronym is science technology engineering and math.

kids should be exposed no matter what type of background or ethnicity or income status. that's where we actually create magic. >> something that the kids are really excited about is science and so the way that we execute that is through making slime. and as fun as it is, it's still a chemical reaction and you start to understand that with the materials that you need to make the slime. >> they love adding their little twists to everything. it's just a place for them to experiment and that's really what we want. >> i see. >> really what the excitement behind that is that you're making something. >> logs, legos, sumo box, art, drawing, computers, mine craft, and really it's just awaking opportunity. >> keeping their attention is like one of the biggest challenges that we do have because, you know, they're kids. they always want to be doing something, be helping with

something. so we just let them be themselves. we have our set of rules in place that we have that we want them to follow and live up to. and we also have our set of expectations that we want them to achieve. this is like my first year officially working with kids. and definitely i've had moments where they're not getting something. they don't really understand it and you're trying to just talk to them in a way that they can make it work teaching them in different ways how they can get the light bulb to go off and i've seen it first-hand and it makes me so happy when it does go off because it's like, wow, i helped them understand this concept. >> i love playing games and i love having fun with my friends playing dodge ball and a lot of things that i like. it's really cool. >> they don't give you a lot of cheese to put on there, do

they? you've got like a little bit left. >> we learn programming to make them work. we do computers and programming. at the bottom here, we talk to them and we press these buttons to make it go. and this is to turn it off. and this is to make it control on its own. if you press this twice, it can do any type of tricks. like you can move it like this and it moves. it actually can go like this. >> like, wow, they're just absorbing everything. so it definitely is a wholehearted moment that i love

experiencing. >> the realities right now, 5.3 latinos working in tech and about 6.7 african americans working in tech. and, of course, those tech companies are funders. so i continue to work really hard with them to close that gap and work with the san francisco unified school district so juniors and seniors come to our program, so kids come to our stem hub and be exposed to all those things. it's a big challenge. >> we have a couple of other providers here on site, but we've all just been trying to work together and let the kids move around from each department. some kids are comfortable with their admission, but if they want to jump in with city of dreams or hunter's point, we just try to collaborate to provide the best opportunity in

the community. >> devmission has provided services on westbrook. they teach you how to code. how to build their own mini robot to providing access for the youth to partnerships with adobe and sony and google and twitter. and so devmission has definitely brought access for our families to resources that our residents may or may not have been able to access in the past. >> the san francisco house and development corporation gave us the grant to implement this program. it hasn't been easy, but we have been able to see now some of the success stories of some of those kids that have been able to take the opportunity and continue to grow within their education and eventually become a very successful citizen. >> so the computer lab, they're doing the backpacks. i don't know if you're going to

be able to do the class. you still want to try? . yeah. go for it. >> we have a young man by the name of ivan mello. he came here two and a half years ago to be part of our digital arts music lab. graduating with natural, fruity loops, rhymes. all of our music lyrics are clean. he came as an intern, and now he's running the program. that just tells you, we are only creating opportunities and there's a young man by the name of eduardo ramirez. he tells the barber, what's that flyer? and he says it's a program that teaches you computers and art. and i still remember the day he walked in there with a baseball cap, full of tattoos. nice clean hair cut. i want to learn how to use

computers. graduated from the program and he wanted to work in i.t.. well, eduardo is a dreamer. right. so trying to find him a job in the tech industry was very challenging, but that didn't stop him. through the effort of the office of economic work force and the grant i reached out to a few folks i know. post mates decided to bring him on board regardless of his legal status. he ended his internship at post mates and now is at hudacity. that is the power of what technology does for young people that want to become part of the tech industry. what we've been doing, it's very innovative. helping kids k-12, transitional age youth, families, parents, communities, understand and to be exposed to stem subjects.

when i heard from roberto hernandez how amazing you were doing i was excited. back in the day i wanted being a cheer leader but it was expensive. i know you went to florida to compete and did really u really good among cheer team usa from all overnight country. you came in second this year we going for first place, am i right! you gotta be proud. let me tell you, you sought other cheerleaders. bive it to 12d! let's give it up! because there is no way that our team usa healered have been successful without our cheer cheering them on. congratulations to 6u on their

championship and 14u on their championship! and what would you say, sweetie? nothing, okay. you know i'm happy to be here to celebrate young people in san francisco because you know our kids deserve the love and support and encourage am we can give them temperature is hard there nowadays and the fact that so many of you are engage in the this capacity to work hard and make sure your children are supported and others people's children are supported to raise the monand he resources and do do everything to get to a place like this, it is significant. i want to say, to raena and ross, as long as i have known rainen we grew up in the same neighborhood but he is way older than i am.

i gotta tell you hoe is right or die for the brown bombers. has been the president since 1999 before any of them were born, i believe. and some people come and gone in the various organizations but he remained consistent in advocacy to support the work of the communities. i'm honored to be here to recognize the accomplishment of the extraordinary, talityentsed young people and here to appreciate you for your work and consistency and being that voice for them every step of the way. without further adieu, ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of san francisco, i want to front rainen ross with a certificate recognizing the brown bombers and the incredible w they do. [applause]. i know it is not lost on anybody that today is february 6. black history month. i want to say to everybody here, the san francisco brown bombers born and bred out of the bayview hunter point communities, we are black history. we are black history! our staff, our coaches, our parents and our communities. >> i cannot go any further without acknowledging where i get my strength. it is from my wife reggina has been by my side and allowed me to sacrifice a great deal to keep this organization running. to our board of directors and our staff, and i'm proud to say this; of our nonprofit board of

14u for being championships in the turkey bowl playing against teams we never play exclude bringing home the gold trophy. again, just to shed the light on other folks in the organization, enough about me. i like to call to the microphone, mr. randy taylor head coach of the 14u football team. [applause]. >> good evening. thank you ms. breed. i have been with this organization for over 15 years. this is the big achievements we ever seen as far as you welcoming in our house. this past year has been rough starting off. once again, me and my staff pull things together. travel across to east bay and came out victorious. against talent we know nothing about.

this young lady, no. and so i turned and told her i will think about it, low and behold dihad they asked. we started a program. here i am 24 years later still remaining as the president. and i gotta say, this is an all volunteer program. we have over 50 staff members. that give their time more than 20 hours a week during the season lasts 4 months. to love, to serve, to moteerate and inspire the children that come in our organization. winning is great. but this organization is built on creating. a new family for our youth >> whether they come from a great home or a home with challenges, we are that alternative family that will

>> in 1948 swensen's ice cream used to make ice cream in the navy and decided to open up an ice cream shop it it takes time for the parent to put money down and diane one of the managers at zen citizen in arena hills open and serve old-fashioned ice cream. >> over 20 years. >> yeah. >> had my own business i was a firefighter and came in- in 1969 her dad had ice cream and

left here still the owner but shortly after um, in here became the inc. maker the manager and lead and branded the store from day to day and in the late 90s- was obvious choice he sold it to him and he called us up one night and said i'm going to sell the ice cream store what you you talking about diane came and looked at the store and something we want to do and had a history of her dad here and growing up here at the ice cream store we decided to take that business on. >> and have it in the family i
