hello. um this is eliana binder , uh, from glide and the policy associate in our center for social justice. and um, i'm sorry to keep you any longer on a friday afternoon, but i just wanted to emphasize the need for prevention resources. and um, regardless of the concerns mentioned about the specific finances for prevention, i would just urge you, um those of you stage and then also in the commission to do not let up on the importance of prevention, um , in the 2022 point in time count. hsh estimated that for every one household, the city was able to house approximately four became homeless. and i've definitely not forgotten about that, um, statistics since i read it, and we see it at glide

every day. um this past year, clients requesting rental assistance increased almost 70% and we also gave out more than three times the number of or the amount of funds that we had dispersed the previous year. um, we. we're so overwhelmed by the need that we raised private funds to pilot a new program, um , to provide rental systems for the many clients, not qualifying for other programs, and since the launch of that pilot, um in march, 2022 we provided 89 people with 90 payments of rental assistance totalling over $200,000, however, were unable to meet that continued and high demand for that, but those types of resources um so and i know other providers are facing similar challenges and the need for flexible emergency assistance rental suspense. um the need is very high, so i just

[music] san francisco developing programs specific low to increase the amount of affordable housing throughout the city. >> the affordable housing bonus program provides developers to include more housing for i have low, low, moderate and middle

income households. this program does not rely on public subsidies but private developers who include it part of their project. under california density bonus law. housing prejudices that include affordable on site may be request a density bonus. it is an increase in the number of housing units allowed under zoning laws and based on affordable units being provided. >> however, the state law does not address all of san francisco needs does not incentivize middle income housing. associating the city is proposing an affordable housing bonus program for higher levels of development including middle income u firsts providing a stream lined application review and approval process. >> how does the program work in

it applies to mixed use corridors in san francisco. and offers incentives to developers who provide 30% of affordable in projects. to reach 30%, 12% of the units must be affordable to low income household and 18% per minute nap to middle income households. >> in exchange developers will will build more and up to additional 2 stories beyond current zoning regulations. >> 1 huh human % affordable will be offered up to 3 additional stories beyond current regulations. each building will be required conform to guidelines ensuring meets with the character of the area and commercial corridors. this program is an opportunity to double the amount of affordable housing and directly address the goals established by twenty 14 hosing element and

prospect k paddled by voters last year. pacificly, prop circumstance established a goal that 33% of all new housing permanent to low and moderate incomes this program will be the first to prosecute void permanent affordable projects that include middle income households. to learn more about the program visit the tenderloin is home to families, immigrants, seniors, merchants, workers and the housed and unhoused who all deserve a thriving neighborhood to call home. the tenderloin initiative was launched to improve safety, reduce crime, connect people to services and increase investments in the neighborhood. as city and community-based partners, we work daily to make these changes a reality.

>> wow, cool. i don't see water, where does it come from and where does it go? >> the firefighters take a hose from the fire engine to the dry sand pipe and plug it in this inlet. they are able to adjust the pressure of water going in the inlet. to facilitate the pressure needed for any one of the floors on this building. firefighters take the hose bunked and he will take that homes upon bundle to the floor the fire is on. plug it into similar to this an outlet and they have water to put the fire out. it is a cool system that we see in a lot of buildings. i personal low use federal on multiple fires in san francisco to safely put a fire out. >> i thought that was a great question that is cool of you to ask. have a great day and nice
