city system are applying for a san francisco. one that we have in common across the duration of recruiting and on boar for opening and i'm going to turn it over to we address the and it is very, very important for collaboration with the partners we regularly hold recruiting the hetch hetchy and meet them in-person and brought a team to assist with the employee events but to actually see in-person the work that our crystal colleagues were are doing. so we basically holdy speciad voep strategies to update those jobs
12:14 am
that classification and look job training revolves developing finding the actual work our colleagues will be performing our in-person collaboration has been important to it is a link term process as has been said and we look forward owe to - to continue to build the relationships pursue critical and only as a team we make a dents. i'm going to turn it over to sheryl. >> great. >> affiliation hr s we built partnerships community and use misrepresent recruiting channels and built a database of commitments. we are not waiting for the city's r■ecruiting process to find inmates and keep

12:18 am
bad or ugly or link in terms of outreach in finding folks like like again the labor movement i don't you're a teacher ever generate what kind of everyone organization has an outreach we need more firefighters that type of stuff is that a good resource local 21 for that type of resource to tap the folks that we need to do this job. >> long question but i think you got it. >> generally speaking i'll let er comment but we meet with the labor p and talk about the and happy to get ferry building may know of a way of advertising and we've gotten feedback that

3:21 am
3:22 am
we set aside a certain portion of that housing for hard to recruit positions. that means we know that we are recruiting electrical jerks f and they're coming from outside the areas we need to help them solve the housing problem um, to get them to come to hetch hetchy we is multiple strategies around housing. um, childcare we work where community partners and have voted a relationship with other entities in our our area that have childcare faults facilities each has a specific set of strategies we're using to get around that challenge i don't know if they're any. >> (multiple voices.) >> you want toalk about housing optimistic you're not
3:23 am
the one ones. >> the cyber ta how people can't buy homes until they have ash no homes have given without insurance that is a big problem. so you might provides someone temporary housing byk they will figure out something but not it is ongoing issue. and somehow i don't know like what the solution is there but people don't like to have a rental for a long-term because they start a job want to have a home. so■ needs a serious strategy i up city f the assets themselves had the conversation last meeting. and so is there
3:24 am
like i don't know like policies that we can actually get to help people to provide insurance for their homes? i don't know if it is know for the tying don't know all the policies for example, is there a way we can build housing that can actually be used beyond a temporary■z um, for example, m not again like ideas out there; right? forle stanford universities owns the land and people come and buy the house don't own lands what they're leasing have to lease is a very specific rules associated with those housing that goes to
3:25 am
faculty want to make sure they provide affordable housing for the faculty so like i you see systems in the areas have the same thing we might need something more long term becaus' you need to be able to explain the housing and childcare they're essential issues not go and if the market picks up and s we can lose some of the people thatchildcare. i don't know march you have those but kem, is there some way to come up wit brooirm them or not? >> yeah. i'll say in terms of like long-term policies that types of policies decisions we ally haven't worked on those but we had had is we are
3:26 am
building a relationship with candidate we'll take them around the neighborhoods they can see is housing options i can tell you thatax and the insurance is kind of slipped from what you'll expect in the idea had 234e will pay for fires insurance and housing insurance ut um, they'll see a reduction if they have a house in the bay area or another urban area in ■c■hth property taxes so from o side we're trying to educate people about is available and had they can expect they'reing in our area i'm the long run but we'reing with fi a

to analyze the material san francisco was sending landfill. they did a waste characterization study, and that san francisco was sending to landfill could be composted. t was things like food scraps, coffee grounds and egg shells and sticks and leaves from gardening. together re-ecology in san francisarted this curbside composting program and we were the first city in the country to collect food scraps separately from other trash and turn them into compost. it turns out it was one of the best things we ever did. it kept 2.5 million tons of material out of the landfill, produced a beautiful nutrient rich compost that has gone on to hundreds of farms, orchards and vineyards. so in th way you can manage your food scraps and produce far less methane. that is part of the solution. that gives people hope that doi down climate change.

these difficult ti. compost is a natural sponge that attracts and rnd so when we put around the roots of plants, it holds any moisture there from rainfall or irrigation. it helps farms make that corner and that helps them grow for food. you can grow 30% more food in naturally with compost. farms and cities in california are very hip now to this fact that creating compost, providing compost to farms helps communities survive and get through those dry periods. >> here is the thing. soil health, climate health, human health, one conversation. if we grow our food differently, we can capture all that excess carbon in the atmosphere and store it in unlimited quantities in the soil, that will create nutrient dense foods that will take care of most of our
