Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina is an animator whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both ancient tragedy and modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Indian epic Ramayana. Set to the 1920's jazz vocals of Annette Hanshaw, Sita Sings the Blues earns its tagline as "the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told."

Subject: One of a kind animated musical
Subject: One of a kind animated musical
Technically, Sita Sings the Blues is a wonderful achievement. It is an unconventional animated musical that was completely produced by one person over the course of 5 years. Also, it features three cleverly interwoven segments, involving unconditional love and being rejected by a soul mate. There are countless scenes that ooze creativity and are simply fun to watch and entertaining. However, the actual plot might not work as well as it should, because the actions and motivations of the characters are never relatable. The weak writing in the real-life scenes and the heavily truncated story of Ramayana also don’t help in making the plot more accessible. Thus, it’s a deeply personal and important movie that is more challenging than it should be.

My Brother told me about this movie..he knew I would enjoy it which I did very much. It has become a favorite of mine. Sita is empowering for women in the highest sense. I could see and understand why she felt the way she did when her husband treats her badly over and over..when she gets away from his abuse she dies. ..from relief. She becomes a Goddess and becomes the master herself.

Currently the best dirac implementation is with Gstreamer on GNU/Linux. You may have to wait for next vlc release for full support or you can try to watch it in a GNU/Linux live cd.

Hi,
I downloaded the whole 4GB Dirac Vorbis file and tried to play it in VLC. The audio works well, but not the video. It only shows one image and does not advance. If i go to the middle of the movie, it shows an image from the middle and plays the audio, but does not advance the video.
A test Dirac Ogg video file from http://diracvideo.org/download/test-streams/ogg/ worked well.
Any ideas?
Maybe the file is broken? Maybe VLC cannot handle files that big?
(This is VLC 0.9.9 on Windows XP.)
Thanks in advance.
