zingers. >> as some of you may have noticed, i had a lot more energy in our second debate. i felt really well rested after the nice long nap i had in the first debate. i've been doing some thinking, and i've decided that for our final debate i'm going back to the strategy i used to prepare for the first debate. i'm just kidding, i'm trying to make axelrod sweat a little bit. >> i have to say mitt romney had some better timing there, didn't he? he was talking, the president was, about david axelrod, his campaign adviser. now at one point during the dinner do you see the two candidates were separated only by the archbishop of new york and romney joked that's why they were behaving. they're going to go head-to-head in their next debate on monday night. you know, investigators have found fungus in sealed vials at the massachusetts compounding pharmacy under question. now the place is linked to the deadly meningitis outbreak. the fungus was in a batch of steroid injections suspected in

the deaths of 20 people. the number of cases jumped yesterday to 257. now the cdc says that fungal meningitis has been reported across 16 states. man, the name of more than 1,000 boy scout volunteers accused of child abuse are now public. a judge forced the scouts to release their so-called perversion files. that group fought to keep them private. some of the alleged abuse victims say it was important to make sure that possible pedophiles are not still abusing kids. >> it's difficult to make a blanket statement for how individuals are going to feel about this. there are going to be some survivors who will be very empowered and very happy to see this information come 0 out. there may be some who will see this information come out, and it will be very difficult for them because it will actually have them -- they will be reliving, reexperiencing some of

the trauma and maybe bringing up memories many have kept buried for a long time. >> well, the 20,000 case files were released from 1965 to 1985. in other words that's the years that they pertained to. lawyers are fighting to make more of the recent files public. the group's current president says that the boy scouts are deeply committed to protecting children. you've got to come here and watch this woman's frantic attempt 0 to get away from a masked man in portland, maine. she was working at a smoke shop when the man came in with a gun. she jumped over a seven foot wall to get away from him. the poor thing. well, he chased her right out of the store so what gives? she was able to hide in the bakery across the street, but he got away. so police are not sure if the man was trying to rob the store or not or what the deal was. oh, my word. that's like shocking, isn't it? your big holiday dinners are about to get more expensive, the

police say martin was suspended three times and had been found with an empty marijuana baggy. and "the miami herald" reported women's jewelry and a screwdriver were also found in his backpack at one point which police said could be a burglary tool. prosecutors are not fighting the request. trayvon's family says the information is irrelevant and that an attempt to -- it's an attempt to demonize a victim. a 22-year-old whose girlfriend recently dumped him just won the lottery. so how do you like me now? now that i'm $30 million richer. he says that the lottery win is helping him get over that heartbreak. >> i didn't know what to do. i mom picked it up, started reading it, and she had to read it a few times to figure out we actually won. it was amazing. she broke up with me, but right now i'm not really worried about it. i was heartbroken at first but now i'm getting over it. >> now, mind you, we don't know why she broke up but still. his nickname is sonny.

you know, we're hearing dozens of people have been killed in an attack in syria yesterday. fighter jets dropped bombs on a rebel town, and this is the amateur video that was posted on line showing explosions, and people searching through the rubble for survivors.

do you remember last year when during the holiday season, people were paying off strangers' layaway bills? so when they came back to the store, they would be like, oh, my gosh, it's a done deal. toys r us are going to help such secret santas this year. >> they're saying that if you come in and pay off somebody else's layaway, a stranger that you don't even know, that toys r us will donate $200 worth of toys to toys for tots. up to a million dollars. i don't know, robin, i was thinking what if you went in and just paid off a $50 layaway.

i think they will still donate $200. last year these kinds of stories were some of the most wonderful ones we heard. people just walked into a store. they knew people were suffering because of the economy. they knew some kids might end up with nothing, and they just said, find me somebody's layaway. i'm going to pay for it. they will basically even do more than that. put $200 to pay it forward. it is official if you can -- that's a big if you can -- but next year you are allowed to save up to $17,500 in your 401(k). the irs raised the maximum amount that you can stash. it goes up about $500 a year, but it does mean if you are somebody who can save, you can sort of pop up your savings a little bit. sometimes you have to go in and dial that up a little bit for it to happen. robin? >> thank you, jennifer. you look good today. i mean, you looked horrible yesterday.

a seattle mom says that she got kicked off of a bus because her baby's diaper stunk so bad

that she killed gabriel. she told miss, though, that she gave him to an anonymous couple. cheerleaders in texas can use bible verses at high school sporting events at least for this school year. apparently they've been using some banners like the one you see here at a football game. the school banned the banners, though, because somebody complained. well, yesterday, a judge said that the banners are okay for now. in june, though, the court's going to decide if banning bible verses violates the cheerleaders' right to free speech. a kentucky man apparently went on a rampage with an ax at his apartment complex. the residents huddled in their apartments or fled. well, this guy was smashing doors, say police. some people were somehow able to grab the ax and get it away from him. >> me and my kids ran and jumped out the bedroom dinner. we were scared to death. >> he started beating our door with the ax. my husband stood there by the door and said hurry up and call 911. if he gets through this door, i

fascinating. all right, did you know 1 in 8 women in the united states will get breast cancer in her lifetime and october is breast cancer awareness month, so it is on a lot of people's minds and we talked with dr. travis stork from, you know, "the doctors" on tv about some of the myths in this live better now. i guess you can imagine with a disease as scary as breast cancer that falsehoods would come up, so what is a myth when it comes to breast cancer? for one, if you find a lump, then surely you must have breast cancer. >> well, eight out of ten lumps that women find are not breast cancer, maybe even more. and so the biggest issue is when a woman finds a lump, which if you're doing regular breast self-exams, that can happen, is to not fear it. i've met so many women who are afraid and fearful, so they'll feel something and they ignore it, but i'll tell you right now the thing to be fearful of is not getting something checked out. because the longer you wait if, god forbid, it is breast cancer, the longer you wait, the more

difficult it is to treat. >> now, myth number two is that men don't have to worry about breast cancer. >> well, men do have to worry about it. 1,700 men a year are diagnosed with breast cancer and here's a big statistics, 450 of those will die from it. breast cancer in men, it's not nearly as common as in women, but if you're a man out there and you do notice an irregularity, you also need to get that checked out because it does happen. >> if your family, someone in your family, has breast cancer, then you are a sitting duck. myth, real? >> well, 85% of cases of breast cancer, maybe more, are in women who have no family history. but the other thing is if you do have a family history of breast cancer, that doesn't mean you're going to get it necessarily. boy scouts are deeply committed to protecting children. investigators have found fungus in sealed viles at a massachusetts compounding pharma pharmacy. that is linked to the deadly meningitis outbreak. the fungus in a batch of steroid injections suspected in the death of 20 people. and the number of cases jumped yesterday to 257. the cdc says fungal meningitis has been reported across 16 states now. on the surface they put politics aside, president obama and governor mitt romney. instead they used punch lines to still make their points at a big charity dinner last night in new york. >> of course, the economy is on everybody's minds. unemployment rate is at a lowest level since i took office. i don't have a joke here. i just thought it would be useful to remind everybody that the unemployment is at the

around town dressed like mr. monopoly, making it rain over here, you know what she's thinking. we had rough weather yesterday all because of this low around chicago, cincinnati down into memphis. you'll find the wind field today but the heaviest rain has been just outside of northern florida and offshore and then it comes in right around delaware, maryland, pennsylvania right now, all getting hammered with heavy rains, same with new jersey and new york stay and fanning back into the rest of the new england. that means air traffic delays. chicago and milwaukee, rain and clouds socked in place. down toe the west and south, you can see kansas city, a little shot of rain coming in but we had big time winds yesterday afternoon. in north dakota, this is tough. we had a huge wind field going across the region. high wind warnings, 65-mile-per-hour gusts and fueled this grass fire into a huge rage that wiped out an

entire town in north dakota. just leveled because of this fire. we've got the wind out there now and more showers and delays as a possibility even around seattle and portland. you are moisture starved. it's going to stretch towards idaho and montana as well. with this in mind, what about air travel? i've seen problems at the following airports, chicago's o'hare and philadelphia and see one in charlotte because of low clouds. what about the rest of the day? new york city metro could see a major delay today. chicago you're going to get it again, looking at half hour to hour long delays in boston and d.c. and detroit. because of low clouds and showers and winds. we'll look at the radar again in just a bit. a 12-year-old was home alone but an intruder came knocking at her door. >> i was shaking, i didn't know what to do. i couldn't believe it was happening. >> so, she grabbed a gun and barricaded herself in the bathroom but it did not end there. after 19 years of pro ball, i know pain.

a high schooler in kentucky is in trouble because he chose

public. >> the boy scouts are deeply committed to protecting children. >> investigators have found fungus in sealed vials at a massachusetts compounding pharmacy. that place is linked to the deadly meningitis outbreak or thought to be. the fungus was in a batch of steroid injections suspected in the death of 20 people and the number of cases altogether jumped yesterday to 257. the cdc says that fungal meningitis has been reported across 16 states now. ♪ ♪ on the surface, they put politics aside, president obama and governor mitt romney. instead, they used punchlines to still make their points. at a big charity dinner last night in new york. >> of course, the economy's on everybody's minds. the unemployment rate is at its lowest level since i took office. i don't have a joke here. i just thought it would be useful to remind everybody. that the unemployment rate is

okay for now, but in june the court will decide if banning bible verses would violate the right to free speech. a kentucky man went on a rampage with an axe at a retirement complex and the residents could do nothing for a while, but huddle in their apartments or flee while the guy was smashing the doors. somebody, some of the people were able to get the axe away from him. >> me and my kids, we ran. we jumped out of the window. we were scared to death. >> my husband stood there about the door and he told me hurry up and call 911. if he gets through this door i want you and jen to jump out of the bedroom window. my husband is in a cheel chair. >> two people were injured including the attacker who was eventually caught and the police are considering the charges against the man. i don't know what there is to consider, but okay. check out these unusual halloween decorations in texas. andy turns scraps of wood and

you have a cold front going out toward the east and a good line of showers will develop around florida, southern florida ask central florida. we had a cold front clearing around the carolina coastline and taking the rain up to the north and you can see it right out of delaware to new jersey, pennsylvania, new york and the rest of new england as it filters in to north of boston into maine. what happens over the next 48 hours? pretty interesting. here's the way it looks over the next couple of days. watch it wind up and eventually effect to the northeast, but look at the rain it leaves behind. that's the rain total forecast. look at the oranges around the hudson valley. that's two to three inches of pure rain. we're still too early for that, but even maine, two to three inches of maine the next 48 hours with light showers around the ohio valley. back to the map and show you what else is happening and there's the storm pinwheeling around the upper great lakes. most of the rain will be toward minneapolis and milwaukee and that will basically filter out

into the east later today. look at this cloud cover coming in through the pacific, seattle, spokane and all getting clouds. the wend from yesterday is pretty intense. look at what it did. wild video coming from a dust storm in oklahoma and shut down parts of i-35 with winds of 50 miles per hour. look at the dust it picked up and threw around. 20 to 30 car wrecks reported by the police on i-35. oh, man. what a nightmare. not as strong today. the wind dies down. there's your zero vis? does that get into your car? i've never driven through a dust storm. >> you have to change your filter. i've never done it either, but apparently it gets into every single crack in your car. >> or other places. >> indeed. from what i've been told. you have probably heard of secret santas who last year were anonymously paying off people's layaways and now big retailers will help secret sant as hoping
