The Prisoner is a 17-episode British television series first broadcast in Canada beginning on September 6, 1967 then in the United Kingdom on 29 September 1967 and in the USA on June 1, 1968. It stars and was co-created by Patrick McGoohan, and combines spy fiction with elements of science fiction, allegory and psychological drama.
The series follows a British former secret agent who is abducted and held prisoner in a mysterious coastal village resort, where his captors try to find out why he abruptly resigned from his job. Although the show was sold as a thriller in the mould of the previous series starring McGoohan, Danger Man (1960โ68; retitled as Secret Agent in the U.S.), its combination of 1960s countercultural themes and surrealistic setting had a far-reaching influence on science fiction and fantasy TV programming, and on narrative popular culture in general.

By far my favourite episode is the girl who was death. Tis you, tis you.... all the way from 1967 ... of course the lighthouse was a missile. Goodnight to all children everywhere, goodnight. And the music ... just right. Ron grainer at his best. Only problem we had in 1967 , the series in black and white. And it was followed by the englebert humperdink show. Hoo boy. And the beatles were number one with all you need is love too. Happy days for a 13 year old.

Working at unravelling the subtexts is part of the fun and offers rewards.
Odd nonsensical things seem to happen sometimes because the plots are also allegorical, not just a superficial narrative of shallow straightforward events like Tiny Toons or Charles in Charge...
McGoohan said everything you need to know to unravel it is right there in the series.
I'll give you a hint:
#1 is egotism; slavery to the self. It keeps us in chains and causes us to act like monkeys. Even the hard man, the staunch nonconformist does so because,
"They won't get ME to break!"
How does egotism dictate your life and how long will you allow it to stay in the driver's seat?

No TV series from either side of the Atlantic has come close to the opening sequence or the incredible theme tune, thank you for making this available.
