unmanned aircraft off of their right wing when they were 1700 feet in the air coming into the bottom of the picture right there. that is runway 13 at left. no evasive actions had to be taken but two sources tell us they saw the aircraft. the drone, about 100 feet from the plane and the faa audio also confirms a transponding between the air traffic control and the pilot that he had a drone off his wing. no evasive action had to be taken and everything landed safeliment reporting live over jfk airport, shannon sohn, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> certainly a potentially dangerous situation. thank you shannon. now another developing story. the legionnares outbreak. it is growing tonight. city officials released updating income about the cases. there are now three deaths connected with the outbreak. and 57 cases. that is up from 46 yesterday. a third building in the bronx

is also tested positive for the bacteria. marcus solis is outside that building. he has more for us. marcus? >> reporter: it was this morning that management at the opera house hotel was informed their cooling tower did indeed test positive for legionella. no definitive sources so far of the outbreak. >> where is it coming from? these questions need to be answered. how can we contain it? >> reporter: they are the unanswered questions for bronx residents. no definitive answers but the bacteria has been linked to three cooling towers including this one at lincoln hospital. no patients or staffers at the hospital had been sickened but some neighborhood residents have along with a dozen more in three other bronx communities. >> i'm thinking about it now because i just read about it yesterday. now i wonder what all the symptoms are. >> reporter: symptomming

include fever, cough, chills, muscle aches. the latest numbers, 57 confirmed cases. 42 people hospitalized. 19 treated and discharged. three cases fatal. all patients with underlying conditions. >> if you are a smoker or your immune system is lower. i'm not a smoker. but i have been keeping an eye on it. >> reporter: at location that has tested positive, the concourse plaza shopping isn'ter. the strip mall houses a movie theater but it is unclear if this is the source of the outbreak. the health department tests other plumbing based symptoms checking histories. >> these are some of the toughest outbreaks to investigate. one of the reasons is that you can have 100 people who are exposed to the legionella and only five of them will get sick. looking at what people had in common is very difficult. >> reporter: as we said, the opera house hotel, the third location linked to the bacteria, just a short time

ago, we spoke with a manager at the facility. >> we merely worked with the health department to make sure we contact first-degree individuals to come in and treat the tower infected. the system has been partially done. it takes six hour to do. we have injected the chemicals there and will continue tomorrow morning. >> reporter: again, he and city officials stress water is safe to drink and bathe in. that shouldn't be a concern for residents. now, a short time ago, the bronx president commented on the growing outbreak. he is calling on the city council to implement some sort of inspection system for the cooling towering in these buildings similar to the inspections done on elevator systems because currently, the city does not have them. live, marcus solis, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you marcus. new at 6:00, women watching their backs in one brooklyn neighborhood after two separate attacks.

police have put up fliers with a suspect's picture. this man is accused of choking one woman and exposing himself to another. this happened in the park slope neighborhood. eyewitness news reporter marcus solis is there with details. actually, jim dolan is there. my apologies jim. >> reporter: no problem diana. these are within 24 hours of each other. police are sure this is the same person. they are certain he is dangerous with psychological issues and may be getting more violent. women in the neighborhood just now seeing the wanted posters for a man who has attacked twice in just two days. >> i don't really take any chances. i have pepper spray on my key chain. i feel like that's the only way to be safe here. you never know who is walking behind you. you never know. >> reporter: police believe this is the man responsible for the two attacks. he exposed himself to one and choked the other. both women were assaulted near their homes about a block away

from each other on 16th street in park slope. a street residents say is too dark at night. >> this is a dead block. a dark block. it is really dark. a lot of attacks happen there. >> reporter: it is a good idea to be observant. police are concerned that the second attack was more violent than the first and are urging women to be extra careful. >> i don't think it matters where you live or where you are. things happen in the world and you have to try and look after yourself. >> i don't come at night unless i'm with someone. especially because i have my child. i usually stay on seventh avenue because there are always people i know. >> reporter: so, in two attacks of women, both women were going into their homes. they were in the doorways when the attacks happen. police hoping someone will recognize that young man in the photograph and call them to identify that young man who

they believe may be homeless. and again, he is just in his 20s . reporting live from park slope, jim hoffer, channel jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. the search is on for a suspect in a disturbing sexual assault in greenwich village. he climbed up a fire escape and crept into an apartment on the second floor and groped a 34- year-old woman sleeps in her own bed. the woman ran out to the police precinct down the block on the same street. in new jersey, police are looking into the cause of a crash that killed two women. this happened on the exit ramp onto valley road in cliffton. the driver lost control, hit a pole and then flipped over. two 21-year-old women were ejected. they both died. three other people in the car did survive. bill de blasio coming to the defense of planned

parenthood tonight. >> once again, planned parenthood has come under attack by antiabortion extremists. opponents of the organization deceive the public. >> the mayor and other city officials are making video tape statements supporting planned parenthood. the u.s. senate is preparing to vote on defunding the group which has come under a new scrutiny over secretly taped videos showing doctors apparently talking about selling aborted fetuses. president obama lobbying hard to win democratic support of his iran nuclear deal. republicans vow to oppose it when it comes to a vote in september. that makes democratic support crucial. but among democratics in new york, one defector. dave evans has more on what that means. >> reporter: as you know, this agreement whether to oppose it or not is a huge dilemma. many are aware of the threats iran poses to israel are against the deal, but the

number one backer is the leader of their own party. president obama. now one new york democrat, grace meng has broken with her party and she says he will be voting no. >> it was a difficult decision for me. it is something that was very personal and weighed very heavily on my mind. >> reporter: grace meng has spent the last few weeks grappling with the nuclear agreement hammered out by the obama administration and announced july since then, protests opposing the agreement. arrests outside senator schumer's office who remains undecided and an expensive tv campaign urging congress to find a better deal. >> restrictions end after ten years. then iran could build another nuclear weapon in two months. >> after balancing everything i read and heard, i would not convinced they would not have their hands on a nuclear weapon after ten years. >> reporter: the president has promised to veto any resolution

in congress opposing the agreement. so republicans are recruiting democrats in the hopes of making their decision veto proof. >> this is a false choice. >> iran will not be in a position to develop a nuclear bomb. >> reporter: the white house met privately this week with jerry nadler of new york. and congressman elliot engel from the bronx. then there is senator schumer. despite all that, congresswoman meng says she feels confident in her decision. >> someone from the white house called my office and expressed disappointment with my decision. but, like i said, you know, i look forward to continue working with my democratic president. president obama. and his administration. we just don't agree on this issue. >> reporter: well, congress is now on recess until early september. it has 60 days to decide whether to support the agreement and the president, or side with republicans in opposition. diana?

we will see if they reach the >> we have an update on breaking news. a delta pilot making a landing at kennedy airport. reported seeing a drone very close to the plane. within 100 feet as we believe. as that pilot was making his landing this afternoon. delta flight 407 from orlando to new york's jfk spotted this drone as it was making a landing. the airport now, and faa investigating this case. obviously, very dangerous for a drone to come that close to a jet with that many passengers. we understand the flight was full. about 154 passengers on board.

pilot did not have to make any maneuvers to get away from it. but very dangerous situation. we have new information on a jewelry store robber. police down in florida arrested barris g. simpson yesterday after he turned himself in. he is wanted in a smash and grab robbery in new jersey in april. police chased him into the sewer system a few blocks away where he did manage to escape. at least for a while. you can't get his autograph, but thousands in new jersey can say they have now seen american pharoah. he got a rock star reception at mama's park. 5,000 fans were on hand to cheer on the colt. american pharoah will race this weekend. >> reporter: all eyes are on mama's park this weekend as the invitational becomes spectator event of a lifetime. the big draw, triple crown winner american pharoah whose stroll brought hundreds of spectators wanting to get an up

close look at a triple crown winner. his appearance has some predicting a crowd of up to 80,000 for sunday's race. >> don't rush out to the highway l. are two more races. stay here, absorb the event. then get back on the road and drive home safely. >> reporter: the crowd will start building sunday morning as early as 5:00 a.m. when the park parking lot. thegates open at 9:00 a.m. with all the excitement building today, it is an early indicator that on sunday, all local roads will be packed. >> i go to a giants game. i'm picturing like a football game. but i plan on being here all day. >> reporter: new jersey has enhanced the coastline service and all trains will stop at the park. >> in the peak hour which we think will be between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., we will have five trains running.

so, people will be experiencing cueing here in this field. and then, there will be a load and go. >> reporter: new jersey transit has several tips to follow if you are comeing to the race on sunday. purchase your round trip tickets in advance. give yourself plenty of time getting to and from the station. and be prepared to experience longer than average wait times to board trains. the invitational is expected to end around 6:30 sunday evening which is prime time for traffic leaving the jersey shore. so pack some patience. anthony johnson, channel 7 eyewitness news. for the race, temperatures will be dancing around the 90s all weekend.

we have what is a really nice evening out there. it is great. i love this time of the day. and the reservoir looks fantastic. it is not the worst jogging night after all those oppressive days with the lower humidity. you can take mid 80s and upper 80s with the lower humidity. but the humidity at 39% is nice. pressure on the fall. high today just shy of that 90- degree mark. 84 is our average. there are your record sunset tonight at 8:30. here are your headlines. fantastic first weekend of august. i mean really nice. it is near 90, but the humidity is low to moderate. more humid by monday, but it is only temporary. the dry air will come back after that. long island, 90 in babylon. 86 west hampton. 90 in oyster bay. it is 84 in danbray. catskills in the upper 70s . 83 belmar. newark, now you have a four-day heat wave going on.

dew point ins the 50s . they are in the very pleasant range and stay there over the weekend. mostly sunny at 7:00. great for first pitch at citifield. mostly to partly sunny storm. a little more patchy cloudiness north as a thunderstorm can roll through. we are clear right now. and between high pressure coming in from the west, this cold front from yesterday. nice dry flow out of the west. only things in the little weak fronts trying to sweep just to our north over the weekend. and that will spark a few extra clouds north of new york city. catskills, northwest north carolina. maybe connecticut. an isolated storm. there is a very slight chance a storm could get down to the coast. it would be brief and it shouldn't change any of your plans. 90 degrees. august heat tomorrow with none of the little fronts around the area on sunday. we are two for two on sunday with another great day. a few high patchy clouds. about 10 to 20 miles an hour. a couple of gusts maybe a little higher.
