>> now, new york's number one news. channel 7 eye witness news. >> a party in brooklyn shattered as gunmen open fire on guests. first responders rushed nine people to the hospital. new at 11, one of those victims talks to eye witness news and describes the chaos during the shooting. first, breaking news in new jersey. a police officer struck by a car that also injures numerous others. good evening i'm joe torres. >> i'm sandra bookman. this happened after 8:00 in jersey city. we're being told an out of control car caused a chain reaction crash. >> one police officer was struck. it's unclear how many others were injured. this happened on ocean avenue near myrtle avenue in jersey city. >> lucy yang is the scene with the latest. >> reporter: sandra and joe, that's where i'm standing on

ocean avenue near myrtle avenue where you can see there's an active scene behind me. they are towing this truck as we speak. this after a wild accident left multiple injuries including, we're told, a jersey city police officer. according to eye witnesses, the driver was in thised r mini van. officials confirmed the original driver lost control and struck another vehicle setting that second car onto the sidewalk innocent pedestrians. it was a horrible domino effect. multiple victims were taken to the hospital. we're waiting to learn the extent of the injuries. the first driver tried to run apprehended. >> well, i seen the red van fly past me with the doors open in the back. i'm like oh, they're whiling. next thing i know i tried to

chase it down and the guy started swerving out of control and the back wheels gave out and the back of the gray car hit the cop. the next thing i know the cop was hurt. i pray for her. i hope she does well. >> reporter: you're looking at a live picture of the gray car being towed. we believe that is the second car pushed onto the sidewalk. again, a jersey city police officer among those injured in a wild ride tonight sends a car onto the sidewalk and pedestrians to the hospital. we are waiting to learn the exact extent of those injuries and exactly how many were taken to the hospital. live in jersey city, lucy yang for channel 7 eye witness news. >> all right, lucy, thank you very much. more breaking news right now. there's been another drone sighting by a pilot landing at jfk airport. sources confirm a pilot the

shuttle america flight spotted that drone on the left side of the mraeven as it approached the airplane. here's the audio from air traffic control. port authority police are investigating the incident. this is the third drone sighting in as many days. pilots from two different days reported seeing a drone near their aircraft as they came for a landing on friday. tonight wraps up a violent weekend in new york city. 19 shootings from friday through tonight. three of them fatal. investigators have made no arrests. police hope this newly released video will help them track these two gunmen seen opening fire in east new york. nine people were hurt in that incident alone. one of the victims spoke with rene stoll.

she has the story from brooklyn. >> he rang the phone and said mommy, i'm on my way home. >> reporter: that's the time she would hear her son's voice. 50 shell casings were found where 25-year-old danel smith was killed friday night. >> i went to him and told him mommy is here and i watched my son breathe and stop breathing. then when they got there and they started pumping his chest, i knew my child was gone. >> reporter: that was just the beginning of a violent weekend of gunfire throughout several boroughs. 19 people were s saturday and sunday. three of those people died from their injuries. >> i heard a shot. >> reporter: antoine is recovering from bullet wounds himself. he was shot on the foot and arm at the party celebrating the life of a young gl who died. this man started shooting striking nine people.

>> it was it was like at least 10 ambulance out there. it was crazy. >> reporter: for stoves, this is a case of life imitating art. he's an actor in a web series in brooklyn and the damage it does. >> people see the damage and then they worry. they don't think about it before they do it. >> reporter: leaving mothers like jackson to beg for a better way. >> you got to put the guns down. what happened to the old days when we used to go out and have a fight and we fought with our fists? >> reporter: the councilman commenting on this saying it's a war zone if their own grandparent can't leave the house to go to the store. renee stoll channel 7 eye witness news. new information on the outbreak of legionnaires disease in the south bronx. 71 people have been diagnosed with the disease since mid july. that's up from 65 known cases.

legionnaires disease. city officials say all the fatalities have been older conditions. officials also say five buildings where the bacteria was found have been decontaminated. >> it's safe to drink tap water condition. however, if you work in an environment with an air-conditioning unit or you're in close quarters where there's a cooling system and you start to feel sick, pay attention to that. >> city council members are holding a meeting to address concerns about the outbreak. brooklyn firefighters praised as heros after they saved a family from a burning building. investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire at 1:00 this afternoon. flames spread quickly trapping five children, including a two month old baby and two adults inside their apartment.

the children's father who was at a laundry mat came running when he saw the smoke coming from the building. >> it was up there, the smoke out the window and said i got a 2-month old baby and it's hot up there. i saw everything up there and everybody grabbing everything they could to get out. >> firefighters brought the family to safety. the red cross is helping the displaced residents find shelter. a sad update on the two men pulled from the water off long island yesterday. one of them has died. 23-year-old kashon carlos was under water for an hour before searchers found him. video out of long beach yesterday shows first responders treating him at the scene. police say carlos and another man went back into the water after the life guards went off duty. >> it was after hours and we got a call, a 9-1-1 call. being on the chairs, we were closed. we received the call and

responded and got as many victims as we could. >> life guards say if you are caught in a rip current don't panic. swim to the side out of the current and swim back to the beach. bobbi christina brown will be laid to rest tomorrow in the same cemetery where her mother is buried. burial for the 22-year-old will take place at a private service at the fairview cemetery. yesterday's memorial service was disrupted when the sister of bobbi brown became angry and was asked to leave. she died in hospice care last saturday six months after being found unresponsive in a bathtub in her atlanta home. one person was killed and as many as 20 others were injured at a festival near chicago. that tent was ripped from its motherings this afternoon during a brief store that brought high winds and hail.

eye witnesses say the tent was blown up and landed on several people underneath it during the prairie fest. in addition to one person being killed three others were seriously injured. a bus driver from new york city remains in critical condition following a deadly accident in north carolina. police say the apex coach bus was traveling south on i-95 near the down of benson when it struck a guardrail. the bus crossed into the northbound lanes before crashing into a median. 23-year-old eric gymerson was thrown from the bus. another car swerved off the road to avoid the bus and struck a tree. a passenger in that car was killed. happening tomorrow, president obama will unveil new regulations aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fighting climate change. the white house previewed the pl in a video posted on facebook this weekend.

a massive man hunt is underway for the suspect accused of shooting and killing a police officer in tennessee. police are now looking for 29-year-old ter maine wilborn. he was a passenger in a parked car that was apparently involved in a drug deal. they say he scuffled with officer sean bolton before shooting him. a community in new mexico on edge tonight after a pair of small explosions at churches a few miles a part. the first explosive device went off in a mailbox in a church. the second 20 minutes later

exploded in a trash can near the other church's entrance. the blast shattered the glass front doors as parishers were receiving communion. fortunately no one was injured. the fbi is helping out with the investigation. some scary moments for a coast guard crew on board of a helicopter forced to make an emergency landing on staten island. eye witnesses snapped photos of that chopper. the pilot landed because of smoke and fumes in the cockpit. the crew had come up from atlantic city to monitor an oil spill caused when a tug boat hit a fuel tanker last night. new video of a man being lift today safety after spending hours in the water off the coast of cape may, new jersey. coast card crews got a distress call from a 45-year-old who went overboard at 10:00 last night. the man treaded water for four

hours before he was spotted by a passing boat. people on that vessel tossed him a life preserver and put him on board. he was brought to shore. a bat boy injured at a baseball game. how a player who was warming up ended up sending the little boy to the hospital. a woman in new jersey turns 110 years young. and reveals the beverages she credits with helping her live so long. and after a beautiful weekend of weather, the heat and humidity are set to return.

meteorologist a new jersey woman welcomed her 12th decade on earth with what she says is a key to longevity. a beer. agnus spent 110 years old yesterday. she spent the day at her home and spent the day with 40 years of the children she helped raise as a nanny. [ audio difficulty ] >> and a frosty lager. in an interview for her 105 birthday she said she enjoyed a beer and a whiskey every day for decades. >> if it's good enough for agnus, it's good enough for the rest of us.

interior new jersey. the front moves through tomorrow night. still warm tuesday and a westerly and northwesterly flow. it's a drier warmth and the high up to 89. one thing i wanted to warn you about. there's a high risk of rip currents into the day tomorrow. the water temperatures may tempt you to go into the water. be careful. if you're caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore until you're out of the current and swim back. accuweather forecast, mostlyc clear and warm. we're down to 73. it's warm at 7 in the morning. temperatures in the mid-70s and up to 90 tomorrow afternoon. hot and humid out there. a shower and thunderstorm in the area. could be on the heavy side. a slight risk north and west. very warm on tuesday and less humid, 89. clouds and sun wednesday and later in the week much cooler and there could be rain in here, maybe a soaking for thursday into friday. we have to watch how far north that moves.

she'll be buried in the same cemetery as her mother, whitney houston. she died last sunday in hospice six months after being found unresponsive in a bathtub. topping the news this half hour, a violent weekend in new york city from friday night through today. shootings spread between the bronx and brooklyn. at least three people are dead. in one shooting in brooklyn, a pair of gunmen shot nine people. >> it happened at a party in died. police released video of the shooting and the suspects that they're looking for. >> kimberly richardson has the details from east new york. >> reporter: by the time the bullets stopped flying in stanley avenue, six women and three men had been hit in the neck, legs and arms. >> as i was walking to my car you just heard shots fired and everybody, you seen everybody scattered. >> reporter: the youngest 19, oldest 38.

>> you say he's feeling a burning sensation in his foot. ones shot? >> yes. gunmen? >> no, i don't think so. >> reporter: what started as a memorial celebration in the backyard of this home turned into an ugly crime scene stretching several blocks. this bmw smeared with blood one piece to this violent puzzle. the party, sources say, for a 12-year-old little girl who lived here but died from asthma three years ago. each year family and friends get together to remember her and things were going just fine last night until about 2:15 this morning. police say that's when several people tried to get into the party. we're told no and pulled out guns and opened fire. >> those who lived here were not intimidated. >> reporter: sources tell eye witnesses news, detectives found eight shell casings and one bullet fragment.

her family didn't want to go on camera. folks were seen going in and out of the home. one are looking at are surveillance video. there are many cameras on homes in the crime scene as well as one run by the nypd. some are fed up with the violence. >> it's kind of scary. what can i do? i live here. >> reporter: a community well aware this is not the last time they'll see this. >> young black and latino men are dying with regularity. we're not doing anything about it. >> reporter: at this hour, police have not yet made any arrests. all nine victims are expected to recover. in east new york, kemberly richardson, channel 7 eye witness news. a call tonight for safety changes to stretch limos following a crash that killed four young women riding in a limo. days after the deadly accident

last month the eye witness news investigative team looked into loopholes for stretch limo safety standards. the report found little regulation for changes to the vehicles. charles schumer says there should be standards for altering limos. >> whe secondary market manufacturers tear them apart stretching them thin and adding tv's, they end up blocking emergency exits, weakening the by little. for every inch they're stretched they become more and more of a death trap. >> senator schumer wants the federal government to impose new requirements for converting cars into limos including side impact air bags and reenforced frames. municipal identification cards are available to residents of newark. the cards will serve of proof of identity regardless of

immigration status. it'll help card holders and open bank accounts. the cards are available to all newark residents 14 and older. verizon workers will work without a contract, though a possible strike still looms. union leaders say more negotiations are scheduled with the wireless carrier. verizon is demanding cuts in job and job security as well as in retirement benefits. verizon said the union's proposals are unrealistic and out of touch in today's marketplace. the contract covers 39,000 employees in nine states. new developments in the controversy surrounding the doe of cecil the lion. another american could be in trouble accused of taking part of an illegal hunt. >> reporter: a new image of

jerricho, his campaign released. international outrage. the group apologizing for what they say was a case of mistaken identity. the news comes as the government announced a second american is wanted in connection with another illegal lion killing in april. that investigation is ongoing as is the country's pursuit of dr. walter palmer, the dentist who is wanted for killing the most famous lion, cecil. theo, his hunting guide, saying the hunt went wrong from the beginning say they never meant to hunt on the land where he was shot. dr. palmer hasn't been seen since closing his dental office six days ago, his representative did voluntarily reach out to fish and wild liar investigators. the agency acknowledging his cooperation. in the wake of his killing,

a bat boy is in critical condition tonight after he was struck on the head by a bat. 9-year-old keiser carlisle went to retrieve a bat yesterday at a college baseball came in kansas and he ran right by the on deck circle where a batter was taking practice swings.

meteorologist jeff smith is thousands of new yorkers turned out for a parade today celebrating international day of friendship. brooklyn borough president eric adams led the unity parade of flags in a march from the brooklyn bridge to the plaza. it's meant to promote solidarity and respect for diversity and a mutual understanding. >> very nice. >> good day for a parade. >> oh, yeah. >> better today than tomorrow, right? >> yes, yes. definitely. humidity is creeping up and it's going to reach a high point tomorrow afternoon when temperatures will feel like they're in the mid-90s. actual temperatures up to 90.
