two decades. insomniacs for making news in america this morning, a lineup revealed. the republican candidates picked to take part in the first debate. who's in, who's out and which candidate is feeling the heat after controversial comments about women's health funding. we're live in washington with the details. extreme weather. hail, strong wind and lightning hitting the northeast as wildfires out west continue to burn thousands of acres. caught on camera. a car careening out of control slamming through a store with customers inside. also, no strings attached. america's favorite muppets couple making a huge announcement. well, good wednesday morning to you. the countdown is on to tomorrow night's first prime time presidential debate.

>> the 17 republicans in the race, these will be the ten on stage. donald trump taking center stage. he has that prime spot right in the middle because he's the top in the polls but jeb bush is getting the most attention over his comments about women's health. >> abc's bazi kanani tracking it all. >> reporter: it is a relief for some and major disappointment for seven others who did not make the cut and who analysts say will now struggle to keep their campaigns alive. this the starting line according to analysts and these are the ten republican candidates who have reached it. with the highest poll numbers, donald trump will take center stage at the first gop debate. jeb bush and scott walker beside him. for the seven republican candidates who didn't make the cut, the consolation prize is a separate forum, four hours earlier, not likely to get much attention. while donald trump has claimed he will not practice for the debate analysts believe the other candidates will be well

prepared to take on trump head on. something they refuse to do monday night at a forum in new hampshire that trump skipped. and while trump has refused to back away from any of his controversial remarks, jeb bush is yet again clarifying comments he claims were misspoken. >> i'm not sure we need a half a billion dollars for women's health issues. >> reporter: bush said he was referring only to funding for planned parenthood but only after democratic front-runner hillary clinton shot back on twitter. "you are absolutely un unequivocally wrong." >> i'm reading it because i want to quote it exactly. >> reporter: taking his comment word for word to the campaign trail. >> he has no billions giving away to the superwealthy or powerful corporations but i guess women's health isn't a priority for him. >> reporter: at thursday's debates the candidates will take april at clinton but analysts believe it will be more important how they go after trump.

they believe the exchanges with him will be important moments in the debate. reena, t.j. >> cannot wait. bazi kanani live for us in washington. thank you so much. turn now to new developments in the investigation into hillary clinton's private e-mails. it's been a major issue in her campaign. >> reports say the fbi has started looking into the security of the e-mail server clinton used while she was secretary of state. a spokesman said clinton is actively cooperating with the probe. she denied she sent classified information by private e-mail. starting with the wildfires in the west. >> the largest in northern california now 20% contained. that's thanks to cooler temperatures and higher humidity. but this so-called rocky fire has scorched more than 100 square miles and it's still threatening more than 7,000 homes. this is 1 of 20 in california. there are several in other states, as well. meanwhile, in new england, residents there cleaning up from yesterday's severe storms. they pounded the region with rain, hail, wind, lightning,

even saw a waterspout offshore. trees and power lines flocked down. thousands without power. most have it back by now. also new details this morning about the deadly tent collapse during a violent storm in new hampshire. we now know that the circus did not have the required permit to set up the tent. the show got under way shortly after the national weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning. the storm hit 15 minutes later killing a father and his 6-year-old daughter and injuring more than 30 others. the most powerful storm of the year is hit to hit taiwan after slamming into the commonwealth of saipan. it was packing winds up to 180 miles an hour. medical supplies now pouring into the island as residents struggle with wide of spread flooding, impassable roads and power outages. no reports of fatalities. nearly 150 passengers on a southwest airlines flight out of denver last night were delayed when their plane crashed into a

truck on the tarmac. that catering truck wound up on its side. it was hit as a southwest flight was pushing back from the gate. the passengers had actually to get off the plane. we could also learn as soon as today whether that wing part that turned up last week belongs to malaysia airlines flight 370. experts are examining this part this afternoon. if confirmed it could go a long way towards explaining what happened to the flight which vanished in may 2014. former baltimore ravens running back ray rice is speaking out as he's hoping for a second chance. he's telling espn that, quote, he's a rehabilitated man following the domestic abuse case where he was seen knocking out his now wife in a casino elevator. he understands some will never be able to get past that. now he's just trying to live day to day. >> survivors of domestic violence, i understand how real

a manhunt is intensifying after a crime spree in california. police scouring the desert for this man believed to be a killer and kidnapper. >> three men were held hostage in their cabin last week. they managed to escape. two days later another man was found dead a few miles away and then two sheriff's deputies were shot and wounded while searching for the suspect. schools shut down in the area and residents are being told make sure to lock doors. for the first time we are hearing a dramatic 911 call that a young boy in arizona made from a closet. he was in his family's home when two men broke in, started stealing stuff. the 12-year-old took a phone in the closet and called for help. eventually the men came into the room where he was. >> does your closet door have a lock on it and you can lock yourself in 23 need be. >> no, no, no, please don't hurt me. >> did they open the door. >> they're already -- [ inaudible ]. >> they opened the door and saw you? >> yes, they saw me. >> now, when the men saw the boy they took off.

we have the story. >> reporter: this man has seen more in his 91 years than many can imagine including the bloody battlefields of world war ii. he fought with the 250th field artillery and helped liberate starving prisoners. but one thing ramos never expected to see again was the wallet he lost when his ba battalion took shelter here back in 1945. a letter arrived in the mail on june 18th suddenly made it significant. reading it and my dad was having breakfast, i go, look, dad, they found a wallet. it's for you. >> reporter: the letter came from dr. joseph rookhoover whose grandfather owned the farmhouse where he stayed. he found the wallet while removing wooden planks and then searched online for ramos based on his old army i.d. card. >> i was looking for the whole u.s. and found one with a birth
