outside of this starbucks. that huge crack is where the front bumper of his car made contact with the building. they were seeing. >> as soon as i saw the guy hit i ran in and grabbed the phone and called 9-1-1. >> this is what rich saw in this surveillance video. the camera's facing south at the corner of 69th street. first you see the black toyota in the far lane. suddenly it veers to the left, crosses the bike line. >> i was in awe and the response from the police and everything was really fast. really really fast. it was just after 9 this morning, witnesses say the man in the corner who they believed was making a delivery for fresh direct, he was right in the path of the car. >> and all of a sudden like right now, that's when we saw him. he just like jumped out of the way, but i can't believe he wasn't hit. it was a miracle. >> the unidentified man was hurt.

we're told his leg. he went to the hospital. there was a female passenger in the toyota. the woman there in the gray believed to be the driver's wife. witnesses say the sidewalk luckily was not packed with people. the morning commute had just ended. had it been an hour earlier, this probably would have been a much different story. kathy visiting from out of town tells me what she saw this morning was amazing in so many ways. >> i am just amazed at your wonderful citizens here in new york that were just so concerned. struck me. >> reporter: it appears the driver of that toyota, which has florida plates suffered some kind of medical emergency. he was taken to the hospital. at this hour, no word on who he is or how he's doing. side, kemberly richardson channel 7 eyewitness news. new information about a queens. police say the driver had some kind of medical episode.

the man was behind the wheel of a box truck that was heading boulevard. after he had the episode he crossed into on coming traffic and hit a parked car. the owner of the damaged vehicle said it was fortunate more people were not hurt. >> knock on our door in the morning, i will just wake up and then we saw a big ball of fire, car, everybody is here. i hear from the other detective that they had a cardiac attack on the truck so that car impact two other cars and come to my car. >> an autopsy will determine the exact cause of death for the driver whose identity has not yet been released. the bronx river parkway has reopened after an accident in yonkers forced the partial commute. news copter 7 was over the scene where emergency crews rescued the driver of an suv that crashed into the bronx river at about 7:30.

police say the driver was on the roof of the submerged car when they arrived and helped them across the river. all northbound lanes were closed for about an hour and a half. new at noon, a new jersey man accused of trying to join isis is back in the u.s. and under arrest. nadir sade was placed in federal custody this morning. he had been in jordan where investigators say he was trying to link to the terror group. his brother was arrested two weeks ago after traveling to jordan. a criminal complaint linked the two to terrorist activities. new at noon a rare summertime hearing in trenton new jersey. lawmakers putting off their vacations to deal with the recent new jersey transit delays that have impacted hundreds of thousands of commuters. eyewitness news reporter anthony johnson joining us from the state capitol with what can be done about those frustrating delays. anthony. >> reporter: right now david an amtrak official is still on the

stand talking before a senate committee telling them that the resources for the system stretched to the limit. he's also saying if a new tunnel is not built right away, any upgrades made to the system, these problems that we saw during the week of july 20th will continue to happen. these problems need to be addressed right away. now the warnings are dire. the future of the region is at hand and amtrak claims if major improvements are delayed any longer, the problems like we saw for a week will continue and become much more frequent. the age of the system is the number one problem. thus the call to move forward with the new tunnel called the gateway project. the damage from superstorm sandy still haunts the entire rail system. the electrical equipment dating back to the early part of the last century under tremendous strain from the 200,000 plus passengers coming from new jersey into new york and back and forth each and every day. problems with the electrical system plagued amtrak and new

intent on making sure that we don't have peace that prevails. >> police say the 18-year-old shot last night, tyler harris was not a part of the protests but was in this crowd when gunshots rang out around 11:15 between two rival groups. investigators claim harris ran and started shooting at a police suv with four detectives inside. authorities say as the detectives got out of the vehicle harris continued shooting at them with a stolen 9-millimeter semiautomatic weapon and all four detectives fired back. eyewitness tony rice pointing this video on twitter of what appears to be harris on the over him. and harris is still hospitalized listed in critical condition. meanwhile at least three officers are recovering after two were pepper sprayed by protestors and one was hit in the face by a rock. reporting live, marci gonzalez channel 7 eyewitness news. thank you.

she wanted to get close to the crowd, things become a little too intimate when she misjudged the stairs, went flying into the crowd. the only thing that was hurt was her ego. next a horse in california back on solid ground thanks to a team of rescue workers with high-tech gear. when the animal fell into a 14- foot hole filled with mud and sewage, firefighters used a crane to hoist her out. it took nearly two hours for the crews to fasten the horse and get it out so she could be moved. fortunately it all worked out. the animal was take ton a vet and given a -- taken to a vet and given a clean bill of health. and a rare white whale off the coast of australia. experts are trying to determine if it's migaloo. it was named by aboriginal elders. migration begins at the end of the month where calves and

the with hospital by the super storm. the new facility is being operated 24/7 by south nassau community's hospital in ocean side which as you know is just across the bridge on the mainland. that is where the critical cases and, in fact, all of the cases have been taken. it is one of the er's first patients here was a woman taken here with dizziness and fatigue. she said she was relieved to know that she didn't have to be her potentially serious symptoms checked out. >> you're feeling better. >> yes, i am. i'm feeling better that it's here. they're very nice, the nurses and the doctor also. there's a lot of older people here in long beach, and it's them. >> when long beach closed people did feel vulnerable. ems felt vulnerable. the patients had to go where else. now we can be not only a stopping point but we can be an end point and help them,

children found at a park in lake ronconkma. children picked up what they thoughts after rock. authorities evacuated the area and used a robot to destroy the grenade. no one was hurt. new at noon the nypd making a big commitment to stun guns. the department will pay 4 1/2 million to expand its arsenal and train officers. this is an effort to give patrols more non-deadly alternatives when dealing with suspects. the stun guns will be given to all supervisors on patrol. two serial rapists and robbery suspects are in jail. police took joey cruz and isaiah rivera into custody. the men are accused of luring at least three women online to meet them and attacking and assaults them. the suspects also robbed the victims. one of the alleged accomplices was arrested on friday. we have video of a burglar who spent his saturday night ransacking a brooklyn apartment. here's a look at the man police are trying to find. he broke into an apartment in sheepshead bay and got away

a tragic plane accident in upstate new york taking the lives of two couples who were long-time friends. officials say the plane went down minutes after taking off from the add iron deck regional airport. the last radio transmission from the plane seemed normal. the sheriff says the plane came straight down with extreme force completely destroying the aircraft. meanwhile this other story to tell you about. there are concerns the battle to raise the minimum wage to

$15 an hour for fast food workers will be lost once it comes time to enforce it. the u.s. bureau of labor estimates 1.7 million workers were paid less than the federal minimum of 7.25 an hour. the problem is the government does not have enough investigators to catch businesses who break the law. $270million in back wages was recovered nationwide last year. authorities in dallas texas are investigating the police shooting of an unarmed black teen at a car dealership. the last few minutes of his life captured on video. surveillance shows 19-year-old christian taylor a college football player climbing over a barricade at the dealership. taylor was then seen jumping on the windshield of a mustang before driving his car into the showroom. 49-year-old rookie cop brad miller and his training officer responded to the scene and confronted taylor off camera. >> they made verbal contact with mr. taylor through the glass wall, instructing him to

lie on the ground. mr. taylor was not compliant. >> miller firing four rounds striking taylor multiple times. the fbi is now investigating. taylor's death has only added fuel to protests in ferguson marking the anniversary of michael brown's death. the families of two teenage boys missing off the coast of florida have called off their own private search for them. the 14-year-olds have been missing for more than two weeks after going on a fishing trip. their boat was found abandoned two days after they left. the coast guard called off the search after a week of not finding the boys. the families say they're praying that they will be returned to them somehow. they also plan to launch a foundation in their honor focused on promoting youth boating education. nascar champion tony stewart is facing a wrongful death lawsuit after hitting a fellow driver on the track a year ago. the family of kevin ward junior is accusing stewart of gross negligence.

i've got some breaking news right now. an ocean rescue in new jersey. news copter 7 was over the scene a short time ago in sea bright. we're told a swimmer was pulled under the water by rip tides. it took about 20 minutes to get the person out. there is no word on that persrson's condition right now. lifeguards say there is a red flag warning today for dangerous rip tides. people are only allowed into the water up to their ankles. we'll let you know about any updates in this story. many of us find as stress gets worse so does our desire for sweets, but it's not just in your head. a recent study that says that participants who experience even moderate stress were more likely to choose food that tasted good over healthier options. stress changes brain chemistry making self-control harder. >> people are under stress, their body actually wants to have glucose. that's the brain's preferred source of energy. you can get it in many ways,

will pick up the humidity for the afternoon hours just a bit. by the time lee goldberg is here first at 4, he'll be telling you how that humidity's a little higher than yesterday. massapequa 78 degrees. 79 bell mare, 82 around toms river. with a southerly wind in some of these spots it creates the rip, and so you see right here where sea bright is located right here, they have pretty much kind of a southeast wind coming in. so for the jersey shore, a southeast wind creates more of a rip current, a southwest wind creates more of a rip current for long island, the south shore here and also around the new york beaches. that's where there's a moderate risk of rip currents. that's why you should always ask. even walk by the lifeguard station and say where's the rip. they'll let you know. there are showers off to the west that will glide into western new jersey. more of these will come up from the south and into the area and so will these showers and thunderstorms off to the west. you see this on our futurecast, here come those thunderstorms

for the overnight hours from the south and west. they really build up. for the morning commute you'll need to start early and have all your rain gear. this will go through the morning commute. kind of get a little break at lunchtime. then another band sweeps through at 4:00, another band at 7:00, 8:00, so tomorrow suffice it to say, a rainy day, a windy day around some of these thunderstorms. could knock the power out, could knock trees and power lines down. our futurecast is showing some of that rain could be as much around white plains. suffice it to say 1 to 2 is a good number here. tomorrow. the downpours to get this could come down hard all of a sudden. that creates a flash flooding threat across the area. for the afternoon we're looking good. 77 to 82, and then we're going to drop on off tonight to some really nice weather. you see we've got this rain tomorrow starting in the morning and through the afternoon across the area. sunshine, then clouds this afternoon, 82.
