fuel in this situation for heavy downpours, surge of humidity coming up the coast, a disturbance moving in. lower westchester, lower parts of fairfield county, connecticut and nassau county on the island. radar picture not showing much in the immediate tri-state area but we zoom things off to the west and the radars are lighting up over parts of virginia, western virginia, new york. this will consolidate in to downpours. here's our high resolution futurecast. this paints a precise picture of the atmosphere over the next 12 or so hours. you can see by 12:00 in the morning already batches moving in. heavier rain in western parts of new jersey. it really gets going around daybreak. you see heavy downpours central, western new jersey by 6 a.m.

by 8 a.m. heavy downpours the city, lower hudson valley, western parts of connecticut, the catskills. this is where it could be coming down 1 to 2 inches per hour and that could cause ponding of water or drainage locations. what i'm concerned about is this redeveloping through midday potentially causing more flooding conditions. we'll have the full accuweather forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> the latest on the commute on eyewitness news this morning beginning at 4:30. also look for our alerts on facebook and twitter and on your smart phone. track radar any time at abc7ny.com/weather. developing story out of new jersey. a man sin -- is in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver. the man was hit riding his bike on beach street 7:30 tonight in paterson. eyewitnesss say the driver showed no compassion for the victim and left him bleeding

in the street. >> he got out of the car, looked at him, and left. just took off, no feelings whatsoever, didn't look back. >> police are interviewing witnesses and looking for clues. we'll take responsibility for protecting our own people. that message tonight from new york mayor de blasio reacting to governor cuomo's rules to treat legionnaires'. now three cases reported in rocklin county. has the biggest out break in new york city history peaked? some say it has. jim dolan with the latest. >> the mayor among them. he insists the city has gotten control of the legionnaires' outbreak even as two more tested positive. one of them here at the daughters of jacob nursing home where the elderly are at greatest risk. >> reporter: charlie lives at the daughters of jacob nursing home in the south bronx and like

a lot of people here, he doesn't share the mayor's rosy optimism. >> what's very important to note is we have no evidence over the last few days of any new cases of legionnaires'. the last day someone became sick with legionnaires' was august 3rd. >> reporter: the mayor showed charts that shows the legionnaires' outbreak in the south bronx in decline. still, there are 113 cases now. two more people died for a total of 12 and now 12 cooling towers have tested positive, two more than the end of last week. the state has gotten more involved. >> i am comfortable with the state's action. i think we have been aggressive. i think the aggressiveness was called for. >> reporter: the governor and mayor held dueling news conferences today oddly at the same time but with some conflicting information. still -- >> they've been working together from the very beginning

of this out brake. -- of this outbreak. the politicians are not the issue here. >> we're talking about it how we need somebody to represent us. >> a lot of people very frightened about this. we do want to stress whenever they find a cooling tower that tests positive for the bacteria, they decontaminate it, cleanse it out immediately. one time note, there was a case in rocklin county but that person works in the south bronx so they believe he or she is part of the same outbreak. jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. happening now, the community of ferguson, missouri tonight holding its breath, hoping to avoid a repeat of last night's violence on the anniversary of the police shooting death of michael brown. a crowd of hundreds have gathered, some holding signs. chanting can be heard as the crowd marches down the street. dozens of police officers are standing by. so far no reports

of any violence. the area is under a state of emergency tonight. a car jumps a curb. newscopter7 over the scene on the east side of manhattan. the car jumped the street at 48th and second avenue. it plowed in to two pedestrians. one of the women suffered serious injuries. cops say the driver who has not been charged swerved because of a car who cut him off. surveillance video shows the car lose control, hit arthur knight, and crash in to a starbucks. this happened on first avenue. mr. knight feels like he narrowly escaped death. >> i had a case of water on the floor. i just so happened to pick the box up. if i would have reached for that water, that would have been me right there and we wouldn't be having this interview right now. >> mr. knight not seriously hurt, plans to be back to work tomorrow morning. police say the driver may have suffered a

medical emergency behind the wheel. questions tonight from a family grieving over the death of a 49-year-old dock worker killed friday when she was hit by a piece of equipment moving shipping containers. was she killed by a falling container? was the driver of the equipment responsible for the accident? carolina leid in elizabeth with a family demanding answers tonight. >> family members say judy jones loved her job and was great at it. so this just doesn't make any sense. >> reporter: judy jones' three daughters are in agony, grieving the loss of their mother, lost in a maze of questions about her death. >> we want answers but we don't have any answers. it's just hard to get through this moment for everyone. >> reporter: port authority police say the 49-year-old dock worker was hit and killed by a police of equipment that moved shipping containers. the newark grandmother was working here at 8 p.m. terminal friday afternoon. a job she's held for

18 years. >> my daughter knew all the safety features and everything because i taught her myself. she knew the safety precautions. she just knew the job. >> reporter: an apm terminal spokesperson said in a statement which reads in part, we immediately notified emergency responders including the port authority police and osha, and then closed our terminal. the accident is under investigation. we take safety very seriously and are cooperating with authorities in the investigation. our thoughts are with her family at this time and we have pledged our support. port authority police say they have not charged anyone with a crime, saying the circumstances surrounding jones' death are being investigated. >> i just wanted to get to see her, say my last goodbyes to her.

>> as the family continues to grieve, they say coworkers here at the terminal have been incredibly supportive during this time. carolina leid, eyewitness news. a 12-year-old boy recovering tonight after he was trapped when a sand cave collapsed on him at the jersey shore. newscopter7 over the scene this afternoon in surf city. lifeguards say the collapse happened as the boy was digging. tonight he's in stable condition. new york cops looking for a guy stealing money orders out of manhattan, brooklyn, and the bronx. pictures taken from a social media account. investigators say he's taken money orders out of at least 18 mailboxes. he then used a chemical to take off the name and cashes the orders himself. a terrifying holdup in the bronx. police say a man with a gun stormed in to a gas station in monthaven last night, pointed

a gun at the clerk and ran off with about $1,000 in cash. the robber still on the run tonight. closures on the george washington bridge mucking up traffic for drivers headed out of new york city. the new jersey bound lanes on the lower level closed until 5:00 tomorrow morning. closures will continue every night through saturday, this to remove construction platforms. next week the closures will switch to the inbound lanes. a man beaten and stabbed in front of his family tonight. new video of a roadside fight. what happened in the minutes before road rage turned violent. >> plus a house explodes and collapses. what caused it to come crashing down? >> we go live outside. a soaking coming late tonight. what's in store for the rest of the work week? jeff get this. i was at my shop tied up with a customer

when i realized the time. i had to get to the bank before it closed, so i made a break for it. when i got out it was almost closing time. traffic was bad. i knew i was cutting it close. but it was ok. i use td bank. it's got the longest hours and stays open an extra ten minutes every day. i'm sid. and i bank human at td bank.

following some breaking news. this is the scene in ferguson, missouri right now. the st. louis police department now in charge of what's happening down there. protesters gathering in ferguson. last night, over the weekend, the one-year anniversary of the shooting death of michael brown. it was all peaceful until last night a man started firing. they shot him. he's now in critical condition. protesters gathering. police now in the last few minutes have entered the street. they're in riot gear. they're going to try to stop protesters from getting further in to the street. we're monitoring the situation and will bring you the latest throughout the night. a massive explosion caught on camera. dash cam video shows a car that crashed in to a home after colliding with a hit-and-run driver. second later a giant fireball. the car struck a gas meter striking the explosion in wisconsin. everyone in the home and the car survived. disaster areas declared

tonight along stretches of rivers in colorado and new mexico after a massive waste leak involving millions of gallons of contaminated water. the orange colored stream is estimated to be more than 100 miles. it contains high concentrations of arsenic, lead, and other heavy metals. workers accidentally triggered the spill while inspecting an abandoned mine. tonight an attack caught on video and released by local police on their facebook page of a man in new jersey confronting another driver. three people got out of the car and beat and stabbed the driver, all of it with his family watching. now a search for the attackers in the ocean county town of brick. here's eyewitness news reporter josh einiger. >> reporter: the video picks up at the end of the altercation when it reached its most violent point as two men and a woman beat and stabbed their victim and ran off to their own car to drive away, leaving him bleeding

in the road. >> do not get involved with someone over a traffic violation. if you're in fear, keep your windows closed, drive to a safe location, call police. >> reporter: police chief released the grainy clip of video captured by a passerby in hopes you might recognize the assailants involved. cops say the victim, with his wife and child in the car, had called 911 before the physical confrontation, but after he yelled at the suspects for driving erratically. that's when they started to follow him. >> they just explained they had been in to a verbal dispute and this vehicle was driving aggressively and he was in fear. >> reporter: at the intersection of route 88 and barb lane, police say he got out of his car to confront the other driver who was joined by his two passengers. so it was three on one. one of the attackers even had a knife and stabbed the victim three times before the suspects all drove away toward route 70. their dark colored

acura has new york plates, the new empire gold kind. but police don't have the plate number. that's why they really need your help. >> they stab somebody, could have caused severe bodily injury to that person. >> no one is saying it was a good idea for the victim in this case to get out of his car in the first place. he was very lucky his injuries were just superficial in nature. as for the suspects, they were last seen driving off in a dark colored acura sedan with tinted windows and new york plates. if you recognize them from that video, police are hoping to hear from you. josh einiger, channel 7 eyewitness news. we have new video tonight showing a dog taken near its home in brooklyn. tonight its owners are desperate to find her. surveillance video shows two women yesterday approaching 9-year-old lovie. the dog was wandering in the street. they picked her up and appeared to look for a collar. the dog's owners have reported it stolen.

governor cuomo's long time partner tv chef sandra lee will go to surgery tomorrow. she's been trying to fight off an infection stemming from her recent mastectomy. on the facebook page, she was upbeat, comparing the battle to tennis riding. right now the ball is in my court and it's time for a mean backhand. the city is experiencing a baby boom. some hospitals expect a 30% jump in deliveries this month with newborns affectionally called snovember babies. last november, nine months ago, more than seven feet of snow fell on buffalo leaving homebound residents with a little time on their hands. maybe that's why some people and their families love meteorologists. [ laughter ] >> nothing baby boom inducing tomorrow.

but it will be a laborious morning commute out there. bill, you and i were talking earlier, long island in a moderate drought right now. this will eat in to that deficit. in and around the city this is going to cause problems especially with urban flooding, small stream flooding and low lying areas. you can see the clouds lowering there. at night, temperatures 75 degrees. wind coming in from the south at 5 miles per hour. high on the day getting up to 84 which is actually a degree above average for this time of year after a morning low of 70. 98 was your record in 1949. the sun will be coming up around 6:00 tomorrow morning. you won't see the sun coming up because it's going to be pouring at that time. slow moving thunderstorms in your forecast for tomorrow's commute. this will bring drenching downpours. could be 1 to 2-inch per hour rates. heaviest rain moves in through dawn. lasting through about midday. flash

flooding of streets, highways, and poor drainage is likely. if you've been commuting in and out of the city for years, you know the usual suspects. fdr, parts the bronx river parkway could flood very easily. 73 at belmar. 73 at islip. you see on the radar satellite, a lot of shower and thunderstorm activity over western pennsylvania, western new york. it's going to take a few hours to get in here. we have one band of lighter showers moving in the western part of new jersey. it's really by around daybreak that the heaviest rain develops and it continues right through the morning hours. and as long as this front is off to our west, even after the heaviest batch of rain moves on by by around midday, we can still get a shower or thunderstorm during the afternoon. the high getting up to around 80 degrees. wednesday, a much nicer day. clouds and sun out there. could be a spotty shower north and west of the city. what you'll notice on wednesday is a gradual lowering of the humidity. accuweather forecast overnight.

great to be a baseball fan in new york when every game as we head to the middle of august means something. >> mets fans have been waiting for this. there was nothing but magic, all resulted in wins. but over the weekend the fairytale took a little hit with two straight losses so how would they respond? tonight the mets opening a four-game set against the rockies. travis d'arnaud changing the narrative. it's 1-0 mets. it was john niese on the mound. the rockies take the lead. the mets would tie it in the 7th with the bases loaded hit by pitch. daniel murphy did that, narrowly getting it through. 4-2. mets take the lead. familia to close it out. gets the strikeout for the 31st saver of the year. mets

division lead currently at two. nationals are playing out west. it was a big night for the captain as well. david wright began his rehab assignment in port st. lucie getting the start as the designated hitter in his first game since april. he went 1-3 with a walk and scored a run, saying afterward he felt good and doesn't have any restrictions. the plan is for him to play five innings at 3rd base tomorrow night. the yankees are off today and thus have plenty of time to think about their weekend sweep by the blue jays. they'll get cleveland. jared stahl finally reasons. agreeing to a one-year deal with the rangers. the former king was arrested in las vegas on felony cocaine possession but he pleaded guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to probation as for on the ice, the 33-year-old was the solid face-off and penalty

kill man and a proven winner of two stanley cup titles on his resume. the giants are in cincinnati tonight ahead of a pretty big week. friday night is their preseason opener against the bengals. first the two teams will hold a pair of joint practices beginning tomorrow. the jets went back to work today in florin park after a day off from training camp yesterday and perhaps they were all still in that relaxation mode because tom foles was not sent a message of the way camp workouts are supposed to go. >> first day since camp started, looked a little slow. it's a wake-up call. the whole practice was dragging, both sides of the ball, everything. players, coaches, everything was dragging. i'm sure it will come back tomorrow. they kind of knew what the assignments were but we were sluggish. the pga championship begins thursday at whistling straits and the gang will be all there. rory mcilroy will be on the course to defend his title.

hasn't played since june 21st after suffering an ankle injury playing soccer but after three straight days of practice today, mcilroy said he's ready to go. the four time major champ has been hitting balls since the end of july and feels 100% ready to play in the tournament. the real test will come thursday. >> and no more soccer. >> please
