rosie o'donnell's daughter who was reported missing. chelsea o'donnell cooperated with police when she was found safe at a home in barnegat. officers handed the teen over to south nyack police. investigators maintain that chelsea was not in any danger. >> there was no physical signs of injuries and she did not appear to be in mental distress. she was cooperative with law enforcement. >> o'donnell says her history has -- daughter has a history of mental illness and was not taking her medication. new information about the handcuffed prisoner that escaped over the weekend. police tracked down austin stevenson in brooklyn through his friends. he was arrested again this morning and he will be sent back to the 23rd precinct to be processed. stevenson fled from custody sunday by shoving the officer escorting him to the station house. he was charged with trespassing charges at a building on 103rd street. the man accused of raping a

7-year-old girl on staten island is now in police custody. daniel nieto was found in east brunswick, new jersey, where he was working at a restaurant. he was initially charged earlier this month for trespassing at the family's home in port richmond. it wasn't until he was released from custody that the young girl told detectives she was sexually assaulted. he will be returned to staten island to face charges. meanwhile, police released new surveillance video of the man they are looking for in a rape in brooklyn. authorities say the man attacked a 52-year-old woman in a stairwell of an apartment building in bed-stuy early monday morning. the man, they say, threatened to shoot her then beat her knocking out her teeth. she is in stable condition. police are investigating a tragic accident that lead to the death of a 10-year old girl. police say the girl and 12-year- old boy fell out of a moving s.u.v. in new rochelle and were run over by the same vehicle. the mothers of both children were in the car with them.

breaking news. a man was taken into custody in connection with a bomb threat at the statue of liberty. police say the april incident was a hoax but lead to a day long evacuation at the tourist site. the suspect jason paul smith arrested today in lubbock, texas and is expected to appear in court later this afternoon. in brooklyn, police are looking for a man riding on a bike in coney island and robbing people. here is a picture of the suspect. he is going after victims in their 60s, 70s and 80s. stacey sager is live in coney

island with more on this one. stacey? all these cases are similar and all but one happened on the boardwalk in coney island. we want you to take a look at the picture that police are putting out of the suspect which we have for you. they have some clear shots of him. basically cops say he approaches his victims on a bicycle, then relationships jewelry -- rips jewelry right off. the fix are in their 60s, 70s and 80s and the incidents happened on the boardwalk where you are not even supposed to be riding a bicycle after 10:00 a.m. beachgoers today vigilant to say the least. >> if he grabs my necklace, we are going to fight. if he grabs my bag, we are going to fight. i am not giving that up either. >> i have been approached by people begging for money. they see you sitting down, changing your shoes or something. you just have to watch yourself.

they battle the flames from inside then hike back to safety. in washington state the national guard is on the ground. flames near chelan have burned 1700 miles of the land there and nearly 100 officials are burning in washington and idaho. another problem is that people are using all kinds of stuff in the air. meanwhile, for the thousands of sick children he visited in hospitals, leonard robinson was a true super hero. for the past 14 years he was known as the root 29 batman. he will be remembered for his kindness at his funeral today in maryland. robinson was killed this past weekend as he stood alongside his custom batmobile. robinson was a jersey boy. he came from bergen county. he was known to spend $25,000 of his own money on batman items for kids every year. and for all of that, he will be missed. >> i know people that knew him

we begin with the football brawl. the second day of joint practices between the dallas cowboys and st. louis rams ended in an all out brawl. there were actually three separate fights throughout the practice. one ended with several players in a pile on a fence where fans could reach out and touch them. cowboys wide receiver dez bryant was apparently punched in the face. no one was badly hurt, yikes. caught on camera, a comedy of area investigators from a burglary at a detroit used car dealership. after a car breaks into the office, he steals a tv. by the way the security company nears calls up but the joke is on the burglar. he has to get over a fence with the big screen and winds up dropping and breaking it. a police department in utah posted a note on facebook about the suspicious behavior of one of its own. the pleasant grove police department began by warning viewers that video of the officer would be hard to watch. it shows him dancing to the

in front of her family fellow national guard members. last november when she was living in syracuse at the time heard gunfire. she heard screams for help outside of her home. she ran outside and she tell us that she saw two teenage boys were shot during an apparent drive-by shooting. she rendered aid and was able to save their lives. army officials say watson deserves the medal of valor for putting her own safety on the line to help others. >> i am excited, a little overwhelmed. i didn't think this would happen when the incident happened. you don't think of what medals i will get. i feel honored receiving this. >> watson's parents are proud of her but their guthrie action when she told them what happened as parents was to say to her what were you thinking running out to help but they say she always puts herself before others. live in farmingdale, kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> kristin, thank you for that.

hall tonight. in washington, bazi kanani, channel 7 eyewitness news. shirleen, david? >> thank you. well, we have some sad news to report, the death of a political trailblazer and a part of our eyewitness news family. >> congressman louis stokes, the first african-american from ohio elected to the house of representatives died just before midnight with his family by his side including our very own lori stokes. he had been battling brain and lung cancer. eyewitness news anchor bill ritter looks back at his incredible legacy. >> reporter: louis stokes was raised poor living in one of the country's first federally funded housing projects in cleveland. >> i have been fortunate enough to rise from having begun in poverty to become a lawyer. >> reporter: stokes and his brother carl, who became the first african-american elected mayor of a major city came to represent a revolution in civil rights that would see the election of blacks around the country. lou stokes started his career

as a lawyer for naacp representing many of the activists fighting for civil rights in the 1960s. he was at the march on washington with dr. martin luther king. the little girl that could barely walk, that is lori, his daughter. louis stokes would in 1968 argue before the u.s. supreme court a case that would set limits and guidelines for police stop and frisk procedures. it was called terry versus ohio. >> in high tide terry case, it set up certain guide lines, called the terry frisk guidelines. those guidelines are taught in every police department in america. they are also taught in the law schools, every law schools in america. >> later that year stokes ran for and won a seat in congress that he would serve for 30 years. in the early 70s, he would start the black congressional caucus.

we have heat and humidity. sunshine. look at this. many thunderstorm right there to the north of toms river and just to the southwest of belmar just west of the garden state parkway. that is a big old thunderstorm popping up here across the area. so now that thunderstorm will keep moving northward into monmouth county. this will be one or two west of the city as we go on into the afternoon. it's 85 around manhattan. 82 around riverhead. you will see 83 out to the east end. but the winds are out of the south here. with a southerly wind that really pumps up the humidity. it's more in the way of humidity than yesterday. yesterday we hit 90. that was four straight days of 90-degree weather. we haven't had that since july of 2012. now you have a southeast wind coming in about 18. this pushes in moisture. southerly wind at 20 here. these humidities are high for the afternoon hours. 63% at laguardia.

70 jamaica queens and around jamaica bay and 67 around newark. taking the ferry back and forth to jersey city or staten island, look at that wind. 20 miles per hour wind gusting up to 22. and we got a water temperature of 76. look at the water temperature in the sound at 80 degrees here if you go back and forth in port jeff to bridgeport. for the afternoon the temperature will be around, i would say, 85 to 86 then it will drop to the upper 70s this evening. we are looking at a high humidity today and tomorrow. so, certainly not as hot but humid and more so. the front that we are talking about for friday is right here. that will slide in to the new york city area, new jersey, connecticut, long island as we go into overnight thursday into friday. 86 this afternoon. 74 tonight. warm and sticky. then tomorrow, we are looking at really more of the same. a pop up thunderstorm late in the day. friday morning there could be a thunderstorm and into the afternoon as a front goes west to east across the area.
