>> now, new york's number one news. channel 7 eye witness news. >> i'm pushing, i'm pushing, she's coming. no, she's coming now. >> stuck in traffic and in labor. an expectant mother forced to deliver on the side of the road when two good samaritans rushed to her aid. a home goes up in flames. exclusive video of neighbors as they try to break down during the door to reach people trapped inside. good evening, everyone, i'm joe torres. >> i'm lauren glasburg. we begin with breaking news. a pellet gun was fired at gracy mansion. a member of the security team hit in the back. >> two were just arrested we're told. a member of the security team rushed to the hospital is expected to be okay. gracy mansion the home of the mayor and his family.

there are no other reports of any other injuries. we're hearing the mayor was not home at the time. no word just yet about the fired. when we learn more we'll bring throughout the next hour. queens. two people died in the fire. >> it started at 1 this afternoon in far rockaway. clutter inside. >> lucy yang was in far rockaway with that story. >> reporter: in this exclusive video you can see next door neighbor alex franklin desperately and valiantly trying to save his neighbor's life. >> i was shouting barbara, get out. >> reporter: early sunday afternoon flames raged through this far rockaway home. by the time firefighters were able to beat the blaze it was too late for two victims in the

kitchen a few feet apart from each other. >> the first units got here within three minutes and confronted with a heavy fire condition. we had heavy fire extending up the side of the house to the attic space. >> reporter: alex left with haunting frustrations. he was on the phone with 911 but when they kept asking for his phone number he kicked on the front door to find he was no match for this shooting flames. >> i was very angry and annoyed and they were insistent in getting my numbers and stuff. >> reporter: they described barbara as a recluse who also may have been a horder. >> barbara rarely came outside. i probably saw her ten times in 24 years. >> the house was cluttered. it hampered the first two units trying to make a push to knock down the fire. >> reporter: lucy yang channel

7 eye witness news. >> that fire happened hours after another fire in harlem at a high rise where nearly two dozen people were injured. many of them firefighters. flames shot out of this 35 story building for more than an hour at broadway and 133rd street. eye witnesses say the hallways filled with smoke as firefighters rushed to get everyone out. everyone is expected to recover from their injuries. one fast thinking teenager in the apartment next to where the fire started took charge to keep her sibellings and their dogs safe as they waited for firefighters. >> i gave them towels to put on their mouth and we were waiting for them to knock on the door and i said keep it over your mouth as we go down the stairs so we don't inhale the smoke. >> the teen could hear firefighters nearby but still called 911 and they got out safely. new jersey state police need your help finding a hit and run boater.

this boat was hit yesterday at wood port cove. two people were hurt and take a look. the danger is pretty bad. the boat that hit them may have a white cabin and aluminum propeller. new tonight a chaotic scene at a music festival on long island leaves two concert goers hurt. it happened this afternoon. >> i'll take the rest of that story. as two young people were in the audience. the rapper there jumped off the stage. people rushed to the stage and that's when the young concert goers were hurt. they're believed to be okay at this point. turning to the bronx. seven people hurt after a church van collides with a truck. the crash happened just after midnight on interstate 95. the impact ejected four people from the church van onto the roadway. the van clipped a box truck as it tried to exit. the truck crashed into a third

car. the victims injuries are not life threatening. three americans who thwarted a terror attack will meet with the french president tomorrow. they spoke about their ordeal during a news conference. they subdued the gunmen when the man burst into the car. one person had already been shot. u.s. airmen spencer stone said he knew they had to act. >> alex hit me on the shoulder and said let's go and ran down, tackled him, we hit the ground. alex grabbed the gun and i put him in a choke hold. seemed like he kept pulling more weapons left and right. >> stone suffered serious cuts as he struggled with the suspect. he had a box cutter. tomorrow the three heros will receive the legion of honor award. president obama back in washington after spending some time with his family during their annual summer vacation in martha's vineyard.

he has his work cut out for him. the house and senate are scheduled to return to session after labor day. the president will have to build support for his nuclear deal with iran and he'll be looking for a budget compromise to avoid another government shutdown. today former president jimmy carter led his first sunday school lesson since announcing his cancer diagnosis. about twice as many people attended the georgia church than on a typical sunday. the former president explained his treatment and how doctors discovered the disease was spreading. >> they removed part of my liver and they got all the cancer from my liver. then we had another mri and i have four places in my brain and so this thursday they treated that with radiation and i'm taking to stimulate my autoimmune system. >> the 90-year-old says radiation is complete and his remaining treatments will be

administered through an iv and plans to stay as active as possible but will use this as an opportunity to cut back. his sermon today was about love. it focussed on his relationship with his wife of 69 years. a request for president obama tonight to declare a plaza outside the stone wall a national monument. city controller scott stringer wrote to the president last week pushing for christopher park to get the distinction. the stone wall is a private business and is not eligible for national monument status. the iconic gay bar where rites took place is considered as the birthplace of the modern lgbt movement. good news for drivers in the garden state. gas prices in some parts of new jersey dipping below $2 a gallon. prices as low as $1.97 offered at this gas station in wood bridge. this is the ninth straight week gas prices have dropped.

the state average is $2.32 a gallon but prices are expected to keep dropping through the fall. growing concerns over topless women in time square. now the state officials have stepped in. why they were questioning the nearly naked panhandlers today. the new security measures amtrak is putting in place for passengers on their trains. no hospitals, no doctors, just two good samaritans that helped deliver a baby on the side of the road. i'm rene stoll and i have the dad's story coming up. the humidity is here but here to stay for a couple days

we continue to follow breaking news. a member of mayor de blasio security has been hit in the back with a pellet gun. we're learning the officer was getting out of an unmarked police car at gracy mansion and she felt something in her back. she was taken to the hospital for bruising. two people were just arrested. we'll bring you more information as the details come in throughout the newscast. the death toll from the air show crash feared to be worst than first thought. a fighter jet crashed onto a busy road yesterday while attempting a loop maneuver. it was first reported that 7 people on the ground were killed. police now believe the death

toll will rise to 11 when all the wreckage is removed tomorrow. the pilot survived. amtrak boost it had security procedure to better protect passengers and employees. the security measures include adding explosive detection k-9 teams and increase inging security teams. they'll share intelligence and conduct joint security exercises. amtrak says the changes are not due to any specific threat. comedian tracy morgan who survived a horrific crash on the new jersey turnpike is reportedly a married man. people.com reports that he tied the knot with his long time fiance this evening. in june of last year he was in a serious car accident that killed his friend and left morgan critically injured and needing long term rehabilitation. his wife is quoted as saying after almost losing tracy last

year, i'm so grateful to finally be married to the love of my life. >> good for him. as you know, traffic on the jersey shore can be a nightmare, especially when a baby is coming. one couple in new jersey found that out the hard way. rose and trevor gave birth on the side of the road in seabright. two well trained good samaritans happened to be close by. rene stoll has more. >> reporter: lauren, you're a mom. picture this. the traffic is so bad that this, the side of the road is the best and basically the only place to deliver a baby. i just got done talking to the father and honestly you're going to have to listen to him tell the story. little baby bella rose was so eager to join the world saturday night that her parents have now nicknamed her bella road. yes, as in side of the road. >> we're going to hit some traffic. >> reporter: that was the

warning 23-year-old trevor gave his pregnant wife rose as they loaded into their car headed to the hospital after her water broke. sure enough, they got stuck in traffic. >> i look over and i see her stomach. she's screaming and stuff. she's in labor and i see her stomach and i'm like it's smaller. it like shrunk. >> reporter: bumper to bumper they realized they weren't going to make it to the hospital. >> i need to push, she's coming, she's coming. she's coming now. that's when she puts the seat in recline and takes her pants off and i see the baby's head and i'm like oh, my god, no. >> reporter: in a panic he started honking his horn for help when he called 911. >> i saw her eyes, i saw her whole head. she wasn't crying and i started freaking out. i didn't think she was alive. >> reporter: luckily the car in front of him had a trauma nurse and nearby was emt lauren.

>> her head and shoulder were already out and it was literally like you ready to push? push and she did. >> reporter: 7-pound 13-ounce bella rose made it through the delivery and so did mom. they're both doing great. >> i'm so thankful she's healthy and my wife is healthy. what a story. she's going to love this when she's older and gets to see all this. >> reporter: what a story she will have to tell when she's older. the couple also has a 17-month old who was born in the hospital. i understand he's already doting over his baby sister. reporting live in new jersey, rene stoll channel 7 eye witness news. >> thank you. good fortune to have an emt close by. my oh my. apple recalls some of its i-phones. the surprising reason why. also, speculation growing that vice president joe biden will jump into the race for the white house. other presidential candidates

on friday the city of calgary had flurries. not much accumulation. in higher elevations closer to the rocky mountains, snow blanketed the ground. >> that's just wrong. >> i'll pretend this didn't even happen. somebody is going to be in big trouble. >> don't even start talking about what we think winter will be like here. we're still in summer and another nice day. >> we go day by day here. >> yes. we like the 80s. >> yes, the 80s will continue all week. we have a couple of muggy days and a beautiful stretch beginning on wednesday. a live look outside right now towards the empire state building. 75 now and humidity way up at 76%. it's humid out there. the high on the day up to 85 after a morning low of 70. you noticed it was a muggier day than yesterday. august 23rd typically we get up to 82 and we beat that by 3 degrees. 92 the record and the sun coming up at a quarter past 6.

there could be a passing shower monday night. we've basically taken shower and thunderstorm chances out of the forecast tomorrow. thunder does threatening on tuesday as a cold front approaches from the west. behind that front it becomes much less humid on wednesday. that can last all the way through next weekend. we have good news for you. 67 sussex, you're 63 at monticello. 64 at morris town. upper 60s and low 70s down the jersey shore. the radar and satellite not showing much. we had a couple of showers earlier this evening over eastern parts of long island and towns of suffolk county. you still can't rule something out because we have moisture lurking off shore. with the wind off the ocean some of the showers may move in that direction. i'm not impressed with that chance overnight. there's a cold front approaching cleveland, ohio, moving on late monday night through tuesday.

warm and humid and the high up to 86 degrees. feeling even warmer with the humidity. on tuesday the front approaches and stalls out for a time over the region. that can be the focussing mechanism for a thunderstorm or two during the day. the high up to 85. later on tuesday the less humid air moves in. accuweather forecast going like this, partly to mostly cloudy and humid. could be a stray shower east of the city. we're down to 71. 72 at 7 in the morning. clouds and sun rather humid. during the day partly sunny. highs in the middle and upper 80s. could be a passing shower tomorrow night and down to 72. better shot at a shower or thundershower on tuesday. the high up to 85. check out the rest of the week. 85, much less humid on wednesday and mid-80s thursday and friday. the only little fly will be a shower north and west of the city on thursday. we're clear sailing friday through the weekend. looking great out there. late summer warmth. >> nice end to august.

the yankees in danger of losing i don't know about you guys but i love colorado this time of year. >> you do. you really do. you would like the mets to play the rockies from here on out. it's not breaking news they're playing good baseball right now. this weekend the last place rockies were more than happy to contribute to the cause. quickly becoming the met's punching bag. in colorado new york was looking for the 11th straight win. three wild pitches in the frame. two of them scored runs as the mets easily went up 3-0.

end avenue where there was a shooting incident outside gracy mansion this evening. pellet gun. this is what we're learning. a female officer assigned to the mayor security detail was getting out of an unmarked police cruiser this evening when the lower back. she was struck by a pellet from a pellet gun. she was taken to the hospital but is said to be fine. the mayor was never at risk. his security was never at risk because he and his wife were not home at the time. this was the weekend they took their son donte to college. shortly after, two people were arrested. they are now being questioned in this pellet gun incident. they might be a young couple from the area and that there may have been other shootings recently. again, a female officer was struck this evening in the lower back. she's said to be suffering from

bruising but is expected to be fine. the shooting happened right outside the entrance to gracy mansion. >> lucy, thank you for that update. a shootout with a suspect in upstate new york leaves the suspect dead and two police officers with gunshot wounds. the officers spotted the suspect wanted for a car jacking in troy. the suspect fired the first shot and officers fired back. the suspect was hit multiple times. one officer was hit in the legs and the other in the shoulder. both officers are recovering and are expected to survive. a teenage boy is in critical condition after being shot early this morning in brooklyn. it happened on cooper's street just before 3. investigators say the gunman took off after shooting the 17-year-old. the victim is at king's county hospital fighting for his life. in brooklyn a brother and sister who work for the fdny both under arrest. they were off duty when a

scuffle broke out with police. firefighter aaron gardner and emt janice gardner face charges including resisting arrest. a fight broke out at midnight in bedford sty. one of the siblings disagreed with an arrest of a man and they started punching the officer. a suffolk county cracks the case of her own stolen truck. she knew that some of her bank card that had been in the truck had been use in deed river head. she went to where the cards had been use and had found her truck at a 7/11 parking lot. she called police and when a man tried to get into the truck the woman's son and a bystander held him until police arrived. andrew barenzi was arrested and faces stolen property charges. fire edge water, new jersey, renewed their

plea for tougher laws seven months after a blaze there. nearly half the complex was destroyed and 500 people were forced from their homes. the bergen county fire chiefs association started a push for tougher state laws. they said legislatures promised actions but no new laws were put into place. >> we're here calling for changes in the building code. not just to protect the citizens of new jersey and beyond but also our brother and sister firefighters that fight these fires and put their lives on the line. we need this change and we need it now. >> suggested improvements to the fire code include reducing the size and height of lightweight buildings and require masonry concrete fire walls between buildings. thousands of volunteers are getting ready for pope frances's visit to philadelphia. 8,000 people have passed

criminal background checks and 2,000 volunteers are needed before heading to the meeting in philadelphia the pope will head to dc and then head to new york and attend a service at the 9/11 memorial and the pontiff will celebrate mass at madison square garden. the race for president heating up with speculation that joe biden is seriously considering joining the race. the other presidential candidates both democrats and republicans weigh in on the potential new competitor as they face tough new campaign questions of their own. >> reporter: a surprise sit down, a fresh political me moe. new signs joe biden is nearing a decision on a run for president. over the weekend he met with democratic heavy elizabeth warren. a last minute huddle. current candidate martin o mall live says the more the merrier. >> he's a very, very good and decent man.

second job. if officials can't figure out how to keep their clothes on the cold weather will have a say in that in a few months. in time square, lucy yang, channel 7 eye witness news. i-phone users, apple has recalled some of the newest phones following blurry photos. the recall affects some i-phone 6 plus phones sold between september 2014 and january of this year. apple says there a defective component with the camera on the back that causes photos to come out fuzzy. apple will replace the i-side camera for free. rapper wiz khalifa was arrested after refusing to get off his hover board at the airport. a series of photos posted and they show him surrounded by officers and then becoming involved in a confrontation. he is being held down on the

the appeal jeff smith back. i know we're expecting a little precipitation. >> yeah. you know, the best chance of getting that would be on tuesday. could be a shower or thunderstorm around. other than that, i mean a pretty benign seven day forecast. >> nothing to get upset about right? >> no, no. especially by wednesday when the humidity comes down. 75 and partly cloudy sky. the wind is calm as we look over towards midtown. highs in the 80s. 85 in the park and similar temperatures to what we had on saturday. but it felt totally different because the humidity increased during the day today. low 80s were the highs on the island and southwestern parts of connecticut.

you've fallen in the low 70s in the hudson valley. you're 72 at belmar and 72 at islip. the dew points have risen and straddling between uncomfortable and oppressive. the humidity will stay at that level through tomorrow and tuesday and will come down sharply by late tuesday behind this front right here, which is slicing through cleveland, ohio. this will move off to and stall over us during the day on tuesday and because of that, there could be a shower or thunderstorm in and around new york city. wanted to take a quick look at the tropics right now. we have tropical storm danny right here. that's going to be moving to the west and northwest during the next couple of days passing south of puerto rico. this is good news for puerto rico suffering from below average precipitation. actually a draught in some parts. this will provide beneficial rain for them. we're tracking another one.

this one has an 80% chance of developing. be watching that carefully. lows around here getting down to 71 in the park. you don't have to head too outside the cities and 50s well north and west. 55 at monticello. highs tomorrow in the middle 80s. it's a muggy day out there. 82 at islip and 84 at belmar. if you're headed to the beaches 5 to 10 and the rip current risk is up to moderate. water temperatures from 72 to the east end to 75 at the new york city beaches and down the jersey shore. air quality will be moderate. uv index will be high at an 8 and pollen up to high. it's up to ragweed pollen seed right now. accuweather 7-day warm and muggy for monday and the high up to 86. could be a shower in a few spots monday night. better shot a couple thunderstorms on tuesday. late in the day tuesday after the front moves on by, humidity comes down.
