they're talking exclusively to eyewitness news reporter jim dolan. >> ryan asked his grandmother to please bring his grandpa home today, but she won't be able to do that. she still holds out hope that her husband might still be alive but even she understands that time is running out and nobody seems to be able to help. >> reporter: barbara andresen knows the odds are long but she still believes. >> there's air pockets down there. he could still be alive and no one is helping us, not one single person is helping us and we need someone to bring my husband up. >> reporter: thomas andresen was fishing in sandy hook channel tuesday when his 40-foot steel hull fishing boat el jefe sunk. divers searched as debris floated from the channel. everybody assumed andresen was onboard but his body has not been found. divers can't get close enough to the boat. >> they call it rip for a reason. the current rips

through there. it's a dangerous spot. plus there's a lot of debris down there and whatever netting is hanging off the boat, ropes, chains, it's dangerous. >> reporter: coast guard told the family they'd have to hire someone to bring the boat up but little money. >> we called private companies and they said it would be like $80,000 to $90,000 for us to bottom of the ocean. and we not. >> reporter: cory fishes with his dad a lot but wasn't on el jefe that day. >> let's find out if he's in there. >> time is running out. he's down there and if he's alive, time is going to run out for him. >> eventually the army corps of engineers will help bring that boat to the surface but it could be weeks or months or longer before they get around to it leaving mrs. andresen and her family with so many unanswered questions. jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news.

more disturbing revelations tonight about vester flanagan, former news reporter who killed two former colleagues live on television. for the first time we're hearing from the husband of vicki gardner, the tourism official being interviewed on tv. her husband tells abc news the gunman tried to shoot her several times but gun jammed. >> he waited until they were so he knew exactly what he was doing. pretty deranged fella. >> reporter: tim garder talking about his wife vicki. she saw alison parker and adam ward get shot and killed, then she was shot. the gunman standing over her and tried to fire but the gun jammed. >> he shot three times at my wife and she was trying to dodge everything. he missed twice. then she dove to the ground and curled up in a ball and that's when he shot her in the back. >> reporter: vicki then got up and walked to the ambulance with

they're making pilgrimage at the station where parker and ward worked, paying respects to not just familiar faces and the televisions but also to their neighbors. vester flanagan used a fake name on air and there is evidence tonight he was prepared to live a fake life after he murdered parker and ward. cops now revealing they found in his getaway car a wig, sunglasses, a shawl, a black hat, three additional license plates, a glock pistol, and six magazines of ammo. >> some law enforcement officers have concerns. >> reporter: victim adam ward was the cameraman, under orders from management rolling video at the station when flanagan was fired. >> please join us now in a moment of silence. >> reporter: the co-workers of the victims this morning sharing collective grief with viewers, and sharing something we didn't know. they and the police were worried flanagan was coming for them after the murders. >> is he coming to the station? is he coming to the station to kill us all?

>> this killing on live tv sparking debate about guns, about mental illness, and tonight the director of the fbi quite passionately with a call for the public to speak up when they see something suspicious like a man with clear mental illness issues. the fbi director promising he'll check it out. if it's nothing, no harm done. if it was, maybe something horrific was prevented from happening. a hot pursuit that doesn't end well. a driver tried to make a getaway while being chased by police mows down an elderly woman out walking her dog but she wasn't the only victim. the car crashing in to another driver. carolina leid at the scene in newark. >> that elderly woman was standing right here walking her dog when that car being chased by police hopped the curb, hit her and two others. as you can see right now, it plowed down that fence. >> reporter: prosecutors say

this gold nissan sentra was being chased through the streets of newark just before noon this thursday. the driver allegedly weaving through traffic, trying his best to lose the police cruiser following closely behind. in its path a 79-year-old woman walking her dog on the sidewalk on clinton street near branch brook park. the force of the crash bent back the steel fence, putting the elderly woman in serious condition at the hospital. her neighbors were stunned to find out what happened as they walked their dogs thursday night. >> she had a slight walking problem so she used to limp a little so she always had her dog in the stroller. i don't think she had any other family members because you only see the two of them alone. >> reporter: the driver also hit another car, putting that driver and the passenger in the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. investigators won't say why police were chasing the driver or for how long. residents

question whether a chase was called for. >> who still chases cars? i thought they stopped that. >> there's a lot of kids over here. you can't chase people over here. >> the 20-year-old driver behind the wheel of the car being chased by police is in custody but so far no arrests have been made. a division of the prosecutor's office is investigating this incident because it involved a police pursuit. reporting live in newark, carolina leid, channel 7 eyewitness news. new tonight, a motorcyclist rescued from the passaic river after he was thrown off of his bike, plunging 50 feet in to the water. rutherford police say 21-year-old jason was thrown in to the river after colliding with a car on route 3. he was able to hang on to a pillar in the river until rescuers threw him a flotation device. he was taken to the hospital with leg

and shoulder injury. happening tomorrow, community honors one of the educators killed in the school massacre in newtown. a new school will be dedicated to the memory of victoria soto in her hometown of strafford, connecticut. her school has special safety features like automatically locking doors and bullet resisting glass. soto's mom today wrote on facebook she would have been so excited to meet her kids. life is not fair. funeral services tomorrow for a security guard murdered at the federal building in lower manhattan. hundreds at a memorial service for the officer who was shot and killed last week in the lobby of the federal building by a man who then shot and killed himself. the 53-year-old father of four was in death honored. >> posthumously aawarded the medal for his dedication to duty on august 21st, 2015. he's honored and remembered for his professionalism by his

colleagues and by his dedication to the safety and security of the homeland. >> a native of the ivory coast, he was working overtime when he was killed. new details tonight about the child pornography case against former subway pitchman, jared fogle. a woman who helped investigators in the case said she alert adsubway franchise owner over concerns about fogle's interest in sex with minors. subway says it has no record of any complaints about fogle. authorities say fogle agreed to plead guilty to allegations that he paid for sex with girls as young as 16 and received child porn. president obama paying tribute to what he called the extraordinary resilience of the people of new orleans as he marked the 10th anniversary of hurricane katrina. the lower 9th ward is still struggling to recover. it was a decade ago this weekend that katrina killed nearly 2,000 people and displaced a million. >> because of you, the people

this one on long island. police finally releasing details of the biggest theft in nassau county history. one suspect caught red-handed with nearly $2 billion in cash, 10% of what he could have taken. two others are on the loose. surveillance video shows several suspect outside loomis armored incorporated in hicksville. they transport cash, the company does. the men 10 days ago breaking through doors and concrete and in to a vault. $20 million of cash inside. an alert cash on patrol spotting one suspect with $1.8 in his car. >> it wasn't a couple individuals waking up one morning and going out and committing this crime. the individuals were masked while committing this burglary. in this particular case they did everything they can to foil the recovery of any evidence. >> edgar medina now under arrest. he has 10 prior arrests and was out on parole. new at 11:00, she ordered hair care products online but

what to do until eyewitness news got involved and discovered the blood on her kitchen table used to be in kelly's body. a test for lyme disease she overnighted from the poconos to a lab in trenton but somehow it ended up in the bronx. >> i would have freaked out if i opened up a box and found vials of blood. >> reporter: what's the common thread between kelly in the poconos and allison in the bronx? turns out both packages were shipped ups and they crossed paths here at the sorting facility in saddle brook, new jersey. tonight ups told eyewitness news it's looking in to what went wrong. >> maybe it got broken open by accident. >> reporter: whatever happened, these two women who never met want an explanation for this bloody mess. in the wakefield section of the bronx, josh einiger, channel 7 eyewitness news. he's our expert on the weather of course but tonight our pal meteorologist lee goldberg becoming an expert on airplane.
