of es.tv. the young woman who escaped from new york police right now heading back to jail, and she's talk ing about slipping away from the nypd. >> but first, he was a legend in the wrestling ring. tonight he's accused of murder. the family of the woman he's accused of killing now talking about her death. good evening at 11:00. i'm bill ritter. >> and i'm sade baderinwa. wwe star jimmy snuka made a name with his flashy moves in the wrestling ring but tonight he's out on bond in new jersey accused of killing his girlfriend three decades ago. >> josh einiger tonight speaking with the victim's sister. >> according to the criminal complaint, jimmy snuka told seven different versions of how his girlfriend died in just the

first day after her death. the da finally submitted a case to a grand jury who voted to indict him for murder. >> we couldn't believe it. we waited so long. >> reporter: you wouldn't either if you waited 32 painful years without justice for her sister. >> when she passed away, something in my mother died with her. optimism and hope. >> reporter: nancy argentino was just 23 when she was beaten to death in this pennsylvania hotel. her boyfriend, professional wrestler jimmy superfly snuka, the only person of interest. the family sued him for wrongful death and won. authorities never charged him criminally until now. the da in rural lehigh county today announced snuka's indictment on third degree murder. the now disabled cancer-stricken 72-year-old turned himself in from his new jersey home this morning. the case revived after

the local allentown newspaper uncovered a never autopsy report labeling the death a homicide. >> what would it be like if nancy were still alive? >> reporter: her sister lorraine said the family never gave up hope this day would come. they even wrote an e-book about the ordeal. with no conviction yet, tonight family members say they finally have the closure for which they've waited so many years. >> she'd be looking down. she'd probably say way to go. easy long? the organization ex pressed its, quote, continued sympathy for loss. she's back in custody tonight, but only after embarrassing the nypd by escaping. the fourth prisoner to do that this summer. now

she's speaking out amid new charges. >> i broke out of the handcuffs when i was out of the hospital after they almost killed me and they just tried again. >> did you steal a woman's credit card too? >> i didn't steal it. she left it in the bar for me and i used it. >> 23-year-old tiffany neumann slipping away from cops sunday at a hospital in lower manhattan. from there she went bar hopping and stole a credit card and a cell phone. she was arraigned on charges of escape, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. also new at 11:00, in new jersey the sayreville school board holding its first meeting since a hazing and sexual assault scandal involving six players. some believe the players' punishment was far too lenient. they were sentenced to probation and community service and will not have to register as sex offenders. a seventh player is still awaiting trial. new information about a high school hazing scandal in

staten island. suspending all football games and practices until further notice. we're also learning a coach is suspended, pending the outcome of an investigation. junior varsity players claim varsity players shot a bb gun at them, roughed them up and harassed them in the showers during training camp. a professional and very well time jewelry store heist with a plot line straight out of the hollywood movie. the thief or thieves breaking in through the roof, then an all you can take buffet. more than $100,000 in jewelry and cash from this safe as reporter aj ross tweeted out tonight. all this happening in the bronx. aj with the latest. >> investigators believe whoever did this, they were indeed some professionals. we're talk about broken surveillance cameras, a big hole in the top of the roof as well as a cracked safe. this all took a lot of precision and planning. >> reporter: it was an elaborate heist executed to a t in the middle of the night. reminiscent of something you

might see in the movies. >> it was incredible, like a mission impossible type thing. >> reporter: these images are real. according to police, the suspects first knocked down cameras then scaled the wall and connecting roof. they used professional tools to cut a 3 to 4-foot hole in the jewelry store ceiling. we spoke with a roofer the store owner called right after the break-in. >> what i've seen up there was a big hole. must have been somebody who knew they could get inside the store through the roof. he must have brought the proper tools to cut the metal underneath the roof. >> reporter: workers inside say surveillance video shows these thieves knew exactly what they wanted and where to find it. >> it looks like they knew where the camera was, they turned on all the lights in there and they were wearing a mask. it took about an hour and a half to cut the safe and then they take only the gold and they left. >> reporter: investigators estimate more than $100,000

worth of jewelry and cash was stolen from inside the safe and display cases. while they continue to collect evidence and clues, they're hoping someone who may have seen or heard something will step forward. >> and now this jewelry store also shares this neighboring space. inside here police say more than $2,000 worth of perfume was also stolen. anyone with information should give them a call. aj ross, channel 7 eyewitness news. a veteran actor tonight getting credit for helping to save his neighbor when her apartment was on fire. dylan baker is his name. the burning building on 43rd and 10th avenue in hell's kitchen. jim dolan on the scene. >> that woman tonight is in critical condition, fighting for her life after fire broke out in her 33rd floor studio apartment. a neighbor, and you may recognize him when we show him to you, a neighbor did try to get in to rescue her, but the heat and smoke were too much. he had to get his family out of the building so firefighters had

to pull that woman to safety. >> reporter: it didn't take firefighters long to knock down the fire and vent the smoke but for a few minutes there it was scary for folks on the 33rd floor. >> we had just returned home. >> reporter: dylan baker lives right next door to where the fire started in the apartment of an elderly woman. >> all of the sudden the alarm went off in the hall. i went out and there was smoke. so i went to her door and pounded on it and called her name. >> i assure you, we are 100% for real. >> reporter: you may know dylan baker. he's a popular tv and broadway actor but this was no movie and the smoke was getting thick. >> i opened the door and there were flames in the kitchen and living room and smoke everywhere. i couldn't go in. >> baker got his family out. >> i heard the alarms and went down the stairs. >> there was just smoke everywhere in the hallway. >> reporter: the building is a

right now for three suspects wanted in the deadly shooting of a police officer. that officer identified tonight as lieutenant charles joseph glenowits, a father of four. he told dispatchers he was on foot in illinois chasing three men. backup officers found him shot and stripped of his weapons. he died at the scene. a crime spree on the streets of newark comes to a deadly end. six carjacking suspects go on a two-hour crime wave followed by a police chase. cops say the man stole a jaguar this morning then used it to commit robberies and shootings. the suspect jumped out of the car. one of them was struck and killed by a police officer. two others barricaded themselves in a house but they later surrendered. two former daycare workers from new jersey now facing criminal charges. they're accused of encouraging children to fight and videotaping the violence. prosecutors say 22-year-old erica kimmy and 28 -year-old shenise white of the

light bridge academy in cranford instigated shoving matches between kids on the playground. fortunately no children were hurt. new tonight, a special tribute for a rising broadway star who fell to his death over the weekend. the imperial theater dimd its lights tonight after the evening performance of les miserables. it was in honor of jeanbaptiste. he accidentally fell from a fire escape in brooklyn last weekend. a car fire literally shut down rush hour traffic outbound. newscopter7 over the scene this afternoon. all outbound lanes of the upper level blocked for several hours while crews investigated what happened and they worked to clean up the mess. tonight all lanes are open again. september starting on a hot note. people spending their night outdoors at bryant park trying to cool off. we're not done with the heat yet. >> that's right.

donald trump trying to reach out to the hispanic community tonight, even though he claims he won't need their vote. mr. trump meeting with the ceo of the hispanic chamber of commerce today. he says he disagrees with trump on immigration but hopes to continue talks with him next month when hispanic business leaders meet in washington, d.c. pope francis today make an historic announcement during what he calls a year of mercy. the pope allowing priests to absolve women if they had an abortion. he said god's forgiveness cannot be denied to people who repent. the catholic church teaches abortion is a sin that could be grounds for excommunication. tomorrow we'll see the chair the pope will use in mass. eyewitness news got a sneak peek at the chair last month. three immigrants from mexico and central america were chosen to help build the chair
