6:00 pm
they had an update a few minutes ago from the officials. they had mutual aid come to the scene. the people are in serious condition they were taken to local hospitals. we talked to some of the witnesses and they told us exactly what they saw. >> we were in the pool. we saw the plane coming in low. people started yelling there is no power in the plane. the propeller wasn't turning. it barely cleared the tree line above the pool. it quickly went around i think it tried to land in one of the fields filled with kids then it banked to the right. >> hit nose down about half the field then skidded to where he was now. a big bang. he hit hard. >> once again, the witnesses telling us that one. field had a lot of kids on it at the time. so the pilot did a good job continuing to turn and land over there in the empty field over there in the bushes.
6:01 pm
both people on the plane, want pilot and the other passenger on the plane were taken to area hospitals. they are in serious condition. that is the latest live from restville, new jersey, anthony johnson, channel 7 eyewitness news. from the ground we head high above the crash scene. shannon sohn is in newscopter 7 with much more. shannon? >> reporter: we heard everything unfold because we were working in laguardia's airspace when the plane suffered the emergency. they were seven miles north of spuyten duyvil. they called in saying they needed to declare an emergency and tried to make it to teterboro with an engine sputtering. minutes after that, they declared that the engine shut down. as a member of an air crew, you are always looking for somewhere to land in case something goes wrong. they tried to make it to teterboro. when the engine quilt they realized they couldn't make it. in an airplane you can glide for a while.
6:02 pm
it looks to us that they tried to find the best spot they could find. as we bring this out, you can see a fudge field. there were people on some of the fields but not the one that they landed. this is where they put it down. unfortunately they landed into the trees but a good job overall. reporting live over cresskill, shannon sohn, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> remarkable job indeed. quite a story. shannon, thank you. now the other news of the night, on long island a car accident then a car chase between drivers. not cops. at one point cops say it involved a stolen tractor trailer that crashed through a fence. it started in suv if he can hamlet of holtsville and ended in patchogue. eyewitness news reporter stacey sager is at the courthouse in central islip. >> reporter: you know, bill, the suspect in this case may have been comfortable behind the wheel of a tractor trailer. we learned in court that he worked full time as a truck driver. but authorities say it was a

6:04 pm
steal a car to get away. >> reporter: the chaos actually started here on the eastbound side of the l.i.e. seven miles away in holtsville where police say moore caused a car crash at exit 62, allegedly fleeing that crash on foot and being chased by another person who was then struck by a van. moore somehow manages to run a mile a way to this chemical company where he then allegedly steals this tractor trailer and the company manager shows us the surveillance video, moore behind the wheel in the darkness allegedly slamming into the company's huge and pricey metal gate. >> that gate is 45 feet. >> he destroyed it. >> totally destroyed the gate. >> reporter: how much damage is that. >> 20,000 in damage, just the gate. >> reporter: now, as for the person who was struck by the vehicle, the person chasing moore then struck by another vehicle, that person had a

and treated brady unfairly. the big off season topic gets a big burst of fresh air today. tom brady joked about it earlier this week. >> such an enjoyable off season. >> reporter: it comes to its latest head today. brady arriving for the preseason game in foxborough late this afternoon has the four-game suspension overturned by richard berman premised upon several legal deficiencies, not the least of which was the court deciding nfl commissioner roger good deal overstepped his authority. the league will, of course, appeal saying while the legal phase of this process continues, we look forward to focusing on football and the opening of the regular season which starts one week from today in foxborough with the patriots with brady, a game the nfl says goodell will skip. we have seen this battle from the field to manhattan, both
6:07 pm
sides walking in and out of a courtroom then the ruling today. the court's decision to overturn the nfl commissioner should signal to every nfl owner that collective bargaining is better than legal losses. that is from the player's union. everybody had their deflate opinion. everybody tried to brush up on the psi knowledge. tom brady held to one premise, di nothing wrong. patriot owner tom craft said he is a person of the highest integrity. he represents everything great about this game and league. the first response this morning included no words, just this tweet, a simple picture worth more than a thousand words. so now the appeal, the games, the drama continue. for now a victory for brady and the players union. the patriots quarterback will be on the field when the season opens. we will join laura behnke in foxborough where the patriots wrap up the preseason tonight against the giants. we will see what the fans have
