students as you can see them doing that right now. we will follow these developments and bring you new information. now to the holiday get away, good news for drivers this morning. gas prices in new jersey dropped $0.07 at stations along the turnpike just in time for people head out on to the roads. >> viewers tweeting us where to find the cheapest gas. it's around 199 on bloomfield avenue in newark. over a million passengers are expected to pass through laguardia, jfk and newark laguardia, jfk and newark airports throughout the weekend. >> we have two reports, amy freeze in for bill evans at the accuweather weather center. >> as we get started we have already seen a major change. after five days in the 90s we're cooling things off. it's 80 degrees outside and there's a bit of a haze and cloudiness. as we start the weekend things are calm and easy to take. we've already seen the front come through the area. camera shaking just a bit. we check the winds and our temperatures have been able to stay in the upper 70s and low

80s because there is a northeasterly wind. right now about 10 to 15 miles an hour is the speed. we'll consistently see that sort of cooler breeze coming in and changing the atmosphere. the headlines are cooler today with a breeze changing things and picture perfect tomorrow. labor day. we're actually under this pattern that's a lot more july- like than it is september. we're under the jet stream pattern that allows the warm air to surge very quickly. we're looking for dry monday. today there could be a spot shower. surprised. we get to 83 degrees for the high temperature, and skies clear out tonight. coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast, we'll break down the days of the labor day weekend, and then we'll also give you the get away forecast. few minutes. the unofficial end to summer is here, and those of us lucky enough to head to the beach, it's a chance to get in sand.

eyewitness news reporter mallory hoff is in long beach with more. >> a lot of people will take their last summer beach do so. if you take a look here, you can see a lot of people already holiday weekend early. walking, jogging, biking along this boardwalk. they say they want to be out changes. >> as summertime beach days drift away, beachgoers say they'll savor the memory of salty air and an ocean view. >> i'm enjoying as much as i can before i go back to work on tuesday. >> on long beach long island, the labor day holiday weekend to close. >> i know winter's coming and it's not going to be fun. >> those who opt to hit the road for the holiday weekend will pay less at the pump. gas prices have dropped $0.07 along the garden state parkway and jersey turnpike. that brings the price for a gallon of regular to $2.20, the lowest labor day weekend prices

along new jersey's two major roadways in a decade t. will serve more than 4 million travelers this labor day holiday, about 1.7 million of those will hit local airports. that's a 1% bump from last year, roughly 800,000 passengers are expected to pass through jfk. 470,000 at newark liberty laguardia. >> i don't want summer to end. >> reporter: you can see that lifeguard enjoying some time there, a few folks out this morning enjoying this beautiful view of the beach, but they tell us, you know what, family and friends will make their way here. this is what they want to experience. they want to experience an enjoyable breezy time out here before the weather changes and they need a jacket. live from long beach long island, mallory hoff channel 7 eyewitness news. we have new information on the plane crash that injured two coast guard volunteers in new jersey. officials have identified the pilot as 41-year-old jacob

rosenberg of spring valley. for the coast guard auxiliary when it went down in a field in cresskill yesterday afternoon. he and his passenger injured. both men are expected to survive. ntsb investigators are working the crash. new details on a deadly fire in new jersey. investigators have ruled the death of a couple and their two young sons found in a burning home a murder suicide. firefighters found the bodies of 35-year-old linden b. hairy, 29-year-old amanda morris and their two sons, 4-year-old brian and 7-year-old brandon in a second floor bedroom in long branch wednesday. investigators believe he shot morris and their children and turned the gun on himself after setting fire to their home. detectives are still piecing together the details of a shootout. the shootout happened on jefferson between evergreen and bushwick avenues in bushwick. dray clark with the latest.

>> neighbors say it sounded like the wild wild west as police faced off with a suspect who would not back down until he was put down with a bullet. the gunfire started at 1:14 this morning, all of it captured on this home summers camera. dozens of shots in rapid succession exchanged between police and a 27-year-old suspect that police say was using this 40 caliber handgun. >> it was very scary. we rolled off the bed and we stayed down. it seemed like it was right outside our window. >> two officers in plain clothes riding in an unmarked police car rushed to the 1200 block of madison avenue where a 52-year-old man had been shot in the arm. the victim described the shooter to the officers, and jefferson and bushwick avenue fire. this picture shows where one of unmarked car. >> at first i thought it was

fire crackers, and it was probably like 15, 20 gunshots. >> dozens of shots fired. the shell casings spreading over multiple blocks, and when it finally ended, the officers were left standing but the suspect was lying on the ground, shot in the leg. >> and it smelled. you could smell the gunfire. it was like wafting in the air it was so much. >> this never happens, and i lived here for nine years. this. >> neighbors say violence is not new to bushwick but this time was different, so many bullets landing so very close to home. >> i couldn't believe how long it was going on. it just kept coming, kept coming. i was like is this really happening. >> and that 27-year-old suspect was taken to kings county hospital where at last check he's listed in stable condition and in police custody. in bushwick, dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. >> dray, thank you. new details about the teacher accused of operating a drone at the u.s. open. police say 26-year-old daniel

verley was on the opposite side of citi field operating drone when it crashed into seats at the u.s. open. we have learned he is a high school science teacher. he'll appear in a queens courtroom on the 16th of september. abc's t. j. holmes has more on the story. >> from battling extreme heat. the game. >> to flaming tempers, this year's u.s. open has been packed with high flying drama, but what happened overnight during the last match of the day was a first. >> we have a moment here where we're not entirely certain as to what it is that landed in the stands. look at the top of this video filmed around 83 friday night, a drone spotted flying into new york's armstrong stadium crashing down into the grand stand between a heated tennis match. >> it seemed as if that fell from somewhere, a bit of a distraction from pinett a. it.

>> that's going to cause a halt in play. >> the match coming to a temporary standstill while police rushed to the stands to investigate. the interruption shaking announcers and players, the man allegedly at the controls, 26- year-old daniel verley, an off- duty employee of new york city's department of education. arrested early this morning charged with reckless endangerment and violations related to flying the drone. no spectators were injured, the match picking up with pinetta winning. >> this breach in security raising serious questions. new at noon, the first marriage licenses issued for same-sex couples in rowen county kentucky as clerk kim davis stays behind bars. two couples have shown up for licenses. all but one worker at the clerk's office planned to uphold the law.

this after davis was found in contempt of court and sent her to jail, a punishment that some of her opponents feel is too harsh. >> at least for this area. >> civil rights are civil rights and they're not subject to belief. >> davis says that her religious beliefs prevent her from issuing licenses to gay couples. the judge says that davis will stay in jail until she agrees to uphold the law or resigns. davis says she will not do either. new at noon, the u.s. unemployment rate tumbled to a 7 year low ending at 5.1%. according to the labor department, only 173,000 jobs were added in august, but the government adjusted the numbers for job and july raising the average to 221,000 jobs a month. the hiring boom could prompt the federal reserve to raise interest rates for the first time in ten years. that's got people on wall street worried, right now a lot of red on wall street.

that breaking news we showed you at the top of this hour, news copter 7 over the bulls head section of staten island. dozens of people including children forced out of the ivy league early learning academy. this after reports of people feeling nauseous and dizzy. we've learned all the children have been let back in and at this point there are not any reports the fdny found any type of hazardous material. if we get any new details we're going to pass it along to you. classes resumed at sacramento city college a day after a deadly shooting on campus. police are searching for the gunman still who opened fire in a parking lot yesterday afternoon. one person died at the scene. two others were injured. police say all the victims were students at the community college. authorities say the incident followed an altercation between the group and was not a random shooting. the nfl not taking the brady decision lying down. it has filed a notice to appeal the judge's ruling in the deflategate scandal.

the judge lifted the four-day suspension given to new england's quarterback tom brady. brady is free to play in the season opener against the pittsburgh steelers next thursday. brady had no comment yesterday and he did not play in last night's preseason game against the giants. in hungary, hundreds of migrants denied access to trains to western europe have begun walking towards germany. officials say many of the migrants who have been stranded at a train station in budapest for days have now left on foot. also, hundreds of migrants in a standoff with authorities have budapest. european leaders are struggling to handle the surge of refugees from war-torn regions of the middle east and africa. the american airman who helped take down a gunman on a train in france is now home in california. airman first class spencer stone arrived during the night at travis air force base near sacramento. he was greeted by hundreds of

people who cheered and waved small american flags. stone still has a bandaged hand. he and the two friends who helped to fight the train gunman will be honored with a parade in sacramento next week. a steel beam recovered from the rubble at world trade center has arrived in new hampshire where it will become the center piece for a 9/11 memorial there. the 8-foot 1100-pound section of beam was escorted by police on its way to portsmouth. police have lobbied to get the artifact for the memorial for the september 11th victims. dramatic video of a fast food worker pulled out of a drive through window. >> and a big rock up for sale. you see right there, that is considered an island. wait until you hear what it is and how much it's going for. >> and taking a live look wave. we are getting a nice break finally from all that heat.

cooler as a front has come through the area. it feels very comfortable outside. even though these clouds could hang around for much of the afternoon, the haziness to the atmosphere. the camera's already bouncing. there's a little breeze which adds to the comfort. we're currently at 80. winds are calm at central park and the pressure is on the rise. a front came through here and has changed the winds really to the northeast, and so that's going to keep us cool for the rest of the afternoon, normal high is 80. i think we can do a few degrees better than that. the record 99 set back in 1929. we could actually be in record territory in the seven day stretch. i'll explain that. the heat has not gone for long. comfortable. upper 70s so far for white sussex. so far newark and trenton, central new jersey, those are the spots we've seen the top temperatures come in. the wind speeds not too dramatic, an 18 miles an hour wind speed for bridgeport. getting that easterly component and northeasterly component to the wind, that's what's giving us the comfort factor.

heat index is not off the charts. the feels like temperature reflecting what we have on the thermometer. little bit muggy, but it's not humid anymore so that's the front and the influence of it. as far as clouds go, a nice patchy in monmouth county, union beach, sandy hook, some of these spots are cloud free for now. they've got a little bit of haze, none of the heavy clouds hanging over. as we go throughout the afternoon, consider yourself lucky if you get the clouds parting and a nice little sun break. other spots could see sprinkle south and east of the city as we get through the afternoon. high pressure builds in, hack to beautiful tomorrow, sunshine and beautiful conditions. get ready for a beautiful weekend from the catskills to the hamptons to the jersey shore. 70s for saturday, then we climb into the upper 70s to low 80s before we get hot again on monday, and that's going to be the story for the city and the shore and the higher elevations. our temperatures returning to summer-like numbers. overnight goes clear with skies comfortable, 65. tomorrow temperatures are

caught on camera, shocking video of a fast food worker yanked by her hair through a drive through window, a quick warning, the video is graphic but the worker will be okay. it began when four girls in a car got into an argument with a worker at the mcdonald's on louisiana.

police say one of the girls, 17- year-old kaitlyn holland grabbed the 16-year-old victim. she pulled her through the small window and punched her several times. the suspect then posted a video of the incident online. holland and three other girls were promptly arrested. a california family comes home and here's some rattling from the window sill, an unusually long rattlesnake made its way into the house, possibly when the family was loading the car earlier and left the front door open. after a good scare, the fire department was called and removed the 4-foot long snake. fortunately no one was hurt. david. >> much more news in our next half hour, new information coming in about day care workers accused of creating a kids fight club. eyewitness news is coming right

victim are both in the hospital. investigators say it was a new york high school science teacher who was operating a drone that crash landed into the stands at the u.s. open last night. 26-year-old daniel verley will have to appear in court later this month. >> and the kickoff to the holiday weekend begins with good news for drivers, gas prices are the lowest we've seen for more than a decade, and hello again, i'm shirleen allicot. >> i'm david novarro. new details this half hour on two former new jersey day care workers accused of creating a kids fight club faced a judge today. prosecutors say these adults provoked shoving matches between kids as young as 4 years old and videotaped it and post it had online. it happened at the light bridge academy in cranford. toni yates has more from elizabeth. >> neither of the defendants are in custody, both of them showed up in court with relatives who may have been their parents, all of them left

court without saying a word. >> 22-year-old erica kenny. >> after these charges how do you plead not guilty or guilty? >> 28-year-old chanese white. >> not >> neither of the former light bridge academy teachers assistants have an attorney yet. both encouraged of having kids fight each other, kids they were charged with caring for at this day care academy in cranford. they made their first appearances this morning. >> from the township of cranford charging you for the endangering the welfare of the children, charging you with one count cruelty and neglect of assistant teacher. >> kenny faces additional charges of cruelty and neglect. the union county prosecutor's office says because she recorded the august 12th fight on her cell phone and shared it on the snap chat social media website. someone grabbed it before it disappeared and it reached law enforcement.

light bridge academy released a statement saying both kenny and white were terminated. while no children were physically harmed during this incident, we have a zero tolerance policy for anyone who acts in conflict with the core value of light bridge academy the safety and well being of children. both were released without bail. kenny and white are due back in court october 15th. in elizabeth toni yates channel 7 eyewitness news. new at noon, officials in newark are honoring the police officers who worked on a wild carjacking case. mayor ros s are baraka. six men went on a crime spree involving several robberies and a shooting. they led police on a car and foot chase which ended with two of the suspects barricaded in an abandoned home. >> our men and women did an excellent job that day in

making sure that that incident ended safely not just for the perpetrators but our officers. >> the two barricaded men surrendered and police arrested them. a sixth suspect died from injuries he suffered in multiple crashes with parked cars while trying to flee from police. new details on the recovery of the woman who survived an on air shooting that killed two journalists in virginia. vicki gardner's condition continues to improve and she got a visit from her dog at hospital this week. gardner's family posted a picture on facebook saying she is taking on physical therapy with determination. gardner was doing an interview with reporter alison parker and cameraman adam ward when they were fatally shot last wednesday. now to vote 2016, the campaign trail heating up as the summer cools down. vice president joe biden talking about possibly entering the race as donald trump gets some heat for a phone

lockdown has been lifted at a correctional center in jersey after a health scare officials feared could be ebola. the mercy county correctional center was under lockdown after a prisoner who had recently been in liberia became ill with a high fever. there were concerns at the jail he might be infected with ebola, but that country is no longer on the watch list for the virus and has not reported a case since july. the world lost some laughter one year ago today with the death of a comedic icon. that would be joan rivers.

she died at a new york hospital after going into cardiac arrest during a medical procedure. rivers was known for her outrageous and outspoken brand of humor that frequently took aim at celebrities. her daughter melissa sent a tweet thanking friends, family, and those who loved her mother for their outpouring of support. a family fighting after they say their young son was poisoned by pesticides. peyton mccaughey spent his 10th birthday in the hospital. his family's home had been fumigated. terminix which contracted the work gave them the okay to return to the house. things went horribly wrong that night when they returned. >> he was having some uncontrollable muscle movements. he couldn't stand up. he couldn't speak. so they took him to a local walk in, and the doctor quickly recognized it was probably a poisoning from the treatment. >> payton's family says

terminix has not revealed what chemicals it used. terminix says it is reviewing the situation. a warning for parents, experts say new apps are allowing your kids to hide texts and photos in plain sight. the so-called secret apps sometimes looks just like standard calculator, but when your child types the code, another set of files appears. the apps are so popular a county district attorney sent out a message to alert parents: kristin pinasati found out her son was using one. >> they can do anything they a pass code. >> i'm almost hurt when things like that are found out. i worry about him. >> basically i was hiding from my parents. >> experts say you can protect your kids by blocking them from permission. they also advise you to search for the apps in your child's phone and remove them. you might also consider installing watchdog software or

filing a lawsuit against the japanese hibachi claim after she slipped and fell. according to documents she sustained deep second and third degree burn injuries requiring she claiming she suffered general damage and wage lost along with hospital expenses. >> the real question comes down to did the restaurant create some kind of dangerous condition that caused her to slip or to fall or to trip therefore sustaining the burns on her arm. >> the mother of 4's injuries so severe she reportedly had to get skin grafts. in this photo, you can see the burn marks on her arm, and in other photos the wound covered with bandages and sleeves. her husband telling extra in april she was recovering well. >> she's recovering. she's doing pretty good. she's just at home resting. >> the restaurant's famously close proximity of diners to the flaming open grills

central park at this time. know that it will be breezy at times. that's part of the atmosphere changing up. it actually feels pretty comfortable up there. the wind speeds across the board, about 10 to 20 miles an hour. breezy at times could be the wording. 76 for hauppauge, 75 massapequa, great neck up to 81 degrees. clouds hanging around along with this haze. it may not look picture perfect but it's setting the stage for a nice holiday weekend. by late tonight clear skies. that's going to allow us to have a beautiful day tomorrow and allow for us to warm up once we get into the second half of the weekend. so cooler today, we got that one down. picture perfect tomorrow. i think it's the best day of the holiday weekend, especially if you're looking for the comfort. it becomes hot again late sunday and into monday. our temperatures are mid-80s to 90s again. this cooldown is short lived. look at the clouds filtering in. spotty showers like this one through south jersey, those can't be ruled out. that's the case south and east of the city, all the way down

to the delmarva. there will be other pockets like this one and that's going to feel real nice. back to beautiful tomorrow, limited to 80 degrees but still a fantastic looking day coming our way. if you're making a get away to the catskills, the hamptons or the jersey shore, upper 70s on saturday, getting into the low 80s on sunday and mid-80s on monday. pretty much across the board anywhere you're ending up this holiday weekend things are pretty pleasant. from the beach to the boat, northeast winds to easterly winds up to 25 miles an hour today, 5-foot waves are possible. water temperature up to 78. it's very inviting, an active ocean out there. the rip current risk is high. check in with your lifeguards. comfortable and 65 tonight. the overnight low tomorrow, there it is, the kickoff, and it's a pretty good one. the accuweather seven-day stretch here, 86 on saturday, and then 90 on monday. labor day we're right back in the heat. i think that the humidity will take its time increasing on
