we are looking at 89 up to riverdale in the bronx. 89 ridgewood. 88 over to cambria heights and around 91 newark and belmar. there has been a little more of a southerly wind component today so the heat index will be a little higher. 93 is the feel in the bronx. 93 in the park. 92 around laguardia. it will get hotter the next three or four hours. the humidity will hang in there as well. so, we are looking at the real feels particularly away from the coastal sections in the mid- to upper-90s to near 100. a little bit of that wind kind of coming out of the south. where you get the southerly wind coming in to the land, that's where you will find the heat index climbing up. we will talk about that and another heat wave, we are in the middle of it. it will be a heat wave tomorrow in the accuweather seven-day forecast. shirleen, back to you. >> thank you. as we mentioned, the extreme heat is causing some schools to send students home early. marcus solis is live in

connecticut, one of the school districts with an early dismissal today. marcus? >> reporter: shirleen, indeed, norwalk, danbury, shelton, bridgeport among the school districts dismissing students early with limited or no air- conditioning. the t-shirts are a clue. september may be upon us but the dog days of summer continue. for students in nonair conditioned schools, the reading and writing comes with a good deal of sweating. besides opening the windows, some districts are making special provisions, dismissing early. in norwalk the day will end two hours ahead of schedule with schools no limited or no air- conditioning. an e-mail to parents, district officials say early dismissals can create problems for families and administrators tried to give as much as advance notice as possible. >> up to 12 -- the schools will

wrap up around 12:50. after school activities are catch sealed as -- canceled as well. also tomorrow is expected to be a warm day. that decision has not yet been made. live in norwalk, marcus solis, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thanks a lot. new at noon, dramatic video of a pilot standing on the wing of a small plane after it flipped over. this happened in bay port. long island reporter kristin thorne is live with the story. kristin? >> reporter: dave, we just spoke to peter williams that helped rescue the pilot. he was sleeping in his bedroom around 6:45 and saw a plane looking like it was having difficulty and saw it crash. he jumped into his boat over here, went out into the great south bay and at that point the plane was about a thousand feet offshore. this is video williams took himself during the rescue. you can see the pilot, joseph canazaro sitting on top of the

plane that just flipped over. according to the registration, this is a homemade plane. we spoke to other witnesses as well who told us they saw him put the plane into the water on a small beach in bay port and then just take off on the water. again, this was around the great south bay around 6:30 this morning. then witnesses tell us they spotted the plane basically tipping over, crashing down. suffolk marine bureau a seven- day forecast in bringing the plane to shore. it was no easy task. >> quite windy. it wasn't easy. the wind was taking more of us than anything else trying to get it back to shore. >> reporter: so, just beyond this fence you are seeing here is where he took the plane off from. there is a small, small beach there known as bay port beach by the locals. according to the coast guard, he refused medical attention and according to williams, as

far as he knows, he just had a cut on his ear. kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> incredible video. thank you. new at noon, more than a half dozen people suffered minor injuries in a multivehicle pile up on i-280 in new jersey. newscopter 7 was over the scene neared branch in newark. as many as nine cars were involved in a chain reaction crash before 10:00 this morning. all lanes on the roadway are being reopened. meanwhile, a hit and run crash reaction crash on the belt parkway left one woman dead. 22-year-old sade eversley was thrown from her motorcycle in queens then hit by a white model minivan. the van didn't stop and police are now trying to track the driver down. moments later a second minivan ran over the victim but that driver did stop. traffic is finally back to normal on the inbound lincoln tunnel following a morning of huge delays. port authority officials say a greyhound bus and two cars

collided in the south tube around 6:30 this morning. as many as 8 people suffered injuries. at one point there were 90- minute backups into new york. so far no charges have been filed against any of the drivers. and more traffic troubles this morning. a fairy crash on the garden state parkway -- fiery crash on the garden state parkway. two s.u.v.s caught fire after colliding. the express lanes were closed for a short time. no one was seriously hurt. tonight there could be confusion at the port authority bus terminal. departure gates are changing for six bus carriers including new jersey transit and coach usa. most of the changes require riders to walk to new gates on a different floor inside the terminal. it is expected to reduce crowding and improve the flow of buses through the facility. senate democrats have more than enough votes to block

opposition to the iran nuclear deal. three more senators this morning announced their support for the deal including connecticut senator richard blumenthal. this brings the number of supporters to 41 votes. that is enough to block a disapproval with a filibuster this week. >> this agreement reflects the best path available now to prevent a nuclear armed iran using diplomacy, not other means. >> bloomenthal adds that he will propose legislation to ensure that sanctions are snapped back into place if iran cheats and enhanced security for israel. in lower manhattan, dealing with terrorism, members of the house homeland security held a field meeting at the 9/11 museum. speakers including commissioner william bratton and former mayor rudy giuliani. he said that iran poses just as

containment lines are expected to keep a force fire in southern new jersey from spreading further. the fire has scorched more than 1,000 acres. this is happening in woodland township. no one has been hurt and the fire is not threatening homes or businesses. take a look at this. residents in nearby towns and drivers on route 72 say they can smell the smoke for miles. it's not clear what sparked the fire. can you imagine dealing with that. >> right now 92 degrees out there. it's a hot one back home. >> yes, it will be hotter. it's 95. when you are breaking a record over 100 years old, close to 100 years old, 1919, that's significant. this afternoon, we are doing just that in the midst of september and the waning summer of 2015. it's hot. it's like early august, mid- august type stuff out there. a look outside from the camera

speech. cheney was in the middle delivering remarks on the iran- nuclear agreement in washington, d.c. when a woman hopped on stage and carrying a banner that read cheney wrong on iraq, wrong on iran. cheney said nothing but the crowd jumped calling for security to throw the woman out. that they did. >> get her out of here. >> yikes. cheney thanked the crowd for their support. in his speech, he warned that if the iran deal is approved it will be catastrophic. congress has until september 17th to approve or reject that agreement. instead of looking up and seeing the under arrest boreal -- aurora borealis, here is a look down on it. the images were captured by astronaut scott kelly.

close as they used to be. their family could not be happier. surgeons at nationwide children's hospital in ohio successfully separated a set of conjoined twins after a marathon 16 hours in surgery. the 11-month-old girls from uganda were joined at the pelvic and hip region. they are expected to make a full recovery. we will have ahead in our next half hour. a long island family hoping to adopt a dog then it attacks their teenage daughter. the girl is in the hospital right now. details in a live report. >> a big settlement reached between the city of baltimore and the family of freddie gray

quickly, way too quickly. they saw an ad about this two- year old picture of alex about to be euthanized. they decided to foss tear alex last thursday. they pick him up in harlem. the ad suggesting he was sociable and could go to an average home. within two minutes of returning to the family's home, absolute horror as alex attacked the oldest daughter. daughter. a full lunch. not a sniff, not a check. he was in the house ten seconds if that at this point in time. he went right for her face, for her throat and it was just -- went into a wrestling match after that, awful. >> it went from us doing this, you know, great dog saving rescue and adding a new family member to defending for her life and then now, you know,ing

charges in connection with his death. the april incident sparked protests in baltimore and around the country. the settlement needs final approval from a board that overseas spending. in the bronx, the search is on for a robber that attacked a man inside the lobby of an apartment building. it happened near grand county course in east mount eden avenue. he approached the victim entering the elevator, punched him in the head and snatching a gold chain from his neck. the robber got away. the victim sustained minor injuries to his lead. a former auxiliary inspector with his wife and future son-in-law were killed in a car crash in upstate new york. this happened late yesterday afternoon near exit 112 on route 17 in the sullivan county town of rock hill. 58-year-old was killed. he was a first responder to 9/11.

his daughter and two sons survived the crash. all were members of the orthodox jewish community. now to a harrowing ordeal for a family after a young boy and his dog fell down a well and were trapped underground for hours. this happened in mississippi and it took dozens of rescuers to get him out. elizabeth hur has the story. >> reporter: cheers from family and community for a job well done. >> a big relief, big relief. everybody coming together. >> dozens of emergency crews gave their all for more than 3 1/2 hours to rescue a 4-year- old boy stuck in a hole 23 feet deep. >> probably the most hard thing about it. >> the family called for help after 5:00 p.m. that's when gabe albritton heard his missing dog barking outside the home.

he ran out to follow the sound and ended up falling into the same hole as the dog. >> him and the dog were out in the yard playing and he was running like normal little kid does and fell in the hole. >> reporter: the hole was a foot and a half wide, too tight for rescuers forcing officials to call in a trench hoe. >> people all showed up to help. >> reporter: a rescue was lowered but too hard for him to figure out. a second device worked. freeing gabe and his dog unharmed. >> officials say he was called and hungry but no injuries. for being so brave, he was promised a ride on a fire truck. elizabeth hur, channel 7

harold ortiz is charged with attempted murder and unlawful imprisonment. police officers in colorado have become the latest targets of gunfire. on sunday, there were reports of shots fired in aurora, colorado. those shots came only four hours after a threatening, quite disturbing 911 phone call saying police were going to be executed. still no word on if the two incidents are related, but authorities aren't taking any chances, especially after a spat of frightening confrontations. a police officer wounded ambush style in las vegas while a man fired at him and the officer was inside his squad car. 3300 passengers on a carnival cruise ship stuck in the virgin islands will find again. access to rooms were restricted but passengers have been

allowed back in them. the ship will serve as a hotel until it can leave port. turning to the latest in the migrant crisis, a dramatic scene on the border between serbia and hungary. hundreds of migrants clash wearing police as they tried walking to they said conditions in the holding area were intolerable. buses eventually brought most of them back. the white house is considering ways to be more responsive including refugee resettlement. a shot through the heart for bon jovi's fans in china. his first ever scheduled concert there were canceled by the government. a specific reason was not given but some reports say that it's because the band used an image of the dalai lama as a backdrop a few years ago. the first concert was supposed to happen next week in shanghai but it will not be happening after all.
