after being hit by a hit and run driver and now police believe that same driver killed a taxi driver just 48 hours earlier. when newark police caught this man, 20-year-old nathaniel young last month, little did officials know they'd prosecute him for two separate crimes. young was charged with murder and his bail jacked up to a million dollars. >> it's not fair what happened. so many guys trying to earn a living and feed his kids. >> reporter: this was the victim's wife left to raise ten children alone. her husband 57-year-old iman picked up a fare bedford street only to be fatally shot and robbed. two days later police tried to pull over nathaniel young and he try today flee but struck a 79-year-old woman walking her dog in the process.

he crashed and tried to run away on foot but was caught. now three weeks later authorities say forensic evidence linked him to the cab driver's murder. in addition to the hit and run accident he's now being charged with murder and robbery in the savage killing of the cab driver. >> you only get one dad, you know. >> reporter: now there were other victims after the cabi was killed. his taxi continued out of control until it hit another parked car injurying the two inside. two days later in addition to crashing into the 79-year-old woman, young struck another parked vehicle with another two people inside that car. so many victims here and one young man now being blamed for all this heart ache and all these injuries. live outside newark university hospital tonight, lucy i can't

from newark to brooklyn and a day care center suspended after a staff left behind and alone park. the health department helping families find other day care operations after they shut down quality of life day care. a woman spotted the boy sleeping on a park bench. workers say they miscount it had children. tonight the family of a man whose dream was to play major league baseball now just hoping he stays alive. michael nolan now in critical condition, shot in the head on wednesday. investigators in yonkers believe there was a dispute possibly over drag racing and someone fired several shots out the car window. he was drafted by the oakland a's. a suspect arrested in arizona for a string of highway shootings in the phoenix area. the governor of arizona breaking the news within the hour on twitter.

a man taken into custody. there have been 11 confirmed shootings of vehicle driving along i-10. no serious injuries. and happening tomorrow, the highly anticipated trip begins. first stop cuba and then the u.s. pope frances will begin his nine day journey beginning in cuba. he will celebrate an outdoor mass in the revelation not that i'm aware square. there's a meeting with president castro. president obama. the white house says the president praised the pope's role in helping the u.s. and relations. today the administration announced new rules for traveling and doing business with cuba. the pope's trip poses a huge travel. jay johnson will be here tomorrow to review security plans with city, state and

thing by calling the cops. tonight a gruesome murder mystery solved. the toddler dumped in a trash bag identified and the murder, the mother's boyfriend. police in boston say bella bond is the 2-year-old girl known as baby doe. they arrested her mother's boyfriend, 35-year-old michael mccarthy charging him with murder. the child's mother not in the clear. rochelle bond also arrested charged with helping him cover it up. controversy in the military tonight. the head of the u.s. marine core recommending that certain combat roles remain closed to women. joseph dun ford has made it clear he opposes women to serving. it's in stark contrast towards the rest of the military. the marine core is part of the navy and the navy secretary will make the final decision.

crash during a high speed race. the boat was going 165 to 170 miles per hour when a gust of wind picked up the boat and tossed it upside down. the boat and the driver landed hard in the water. the driver got out of the boat safely but he was taken to the hospital for treatment. >> looked like it was just taking off. >> always spectacular with those boats. >> our weather has been something else. there is a change on the way. >> yeah. all of a sudden it's starting to get interesting. we have a tropical system to talk about and changes over the weekend. it's been beautiful with the mets taking game one of the subway series. they get the bragging rights and the colors tonight. it was pinstripes and met's colors. mainly clear skies and 73. humidity still low and 87 very warm. don't have that in the 7-day. is it the last 80-degree day tomorrow? not necessarily.

a few could creep in overnight. there's the slightest chance of a sprinkle in the jersey shore. otherwise dry. watching this area of moisture actually could have some tropical characteristics next week. we'll have to watch if it stays off shore monday and tuesday. this is the cold front that comes through. severe weather and 10 reported tornados. that weakens as it gets to us saturday night into sunday. we'll get the impact of the cooler temperatures. chicago down to 69 and the 40s and 50s here. we don't get that cool but in the 70s. the future cast tomorrow after patchy clouds, sunshine in the afternoon and around 80 degrees and fine for saturday evening and a stray shower sunday morning. last to clear eastern long island, jersey shore after mid afternoon. that's ida in the atlantic. no threat to land. we'll be watching into next week. here's the accuweather forecast. mainly clear and partly to mostly sunny. we're still in the 80s.
