it will be in spanish but we will get an english translation as soon as possible. the homily is the main message from the pope. we will keep you posted if he says anything controversial. in washington, dave evans, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you, dave. at this time tomorrow the pope will be arriving in new york city. let's take a look at his schedule. setting down at j.f.k. about 5:00 in the evening then making his way to manhattan. a motorcade on 5th avenue then about 6:00 evening prayers at st. patrick's cathedral. the road closures go into effect when the pope arrives. sporadic closures as he makes his way around the city. here are some of the big ones. streets around where the pope will stay on east 72nd street will be closed and the streets around st. patrick's will be closed for the evening prayer service. >> expect more restrictions on friday. at 10:20 in the morning the pope will address the u.n. general assembly.

be services at the 9/11 memorial and museum in lower manhattan. then in the afternoon, the pontiff head's up town to our lady queen of angels school in east harlem. at 5:00 he will travel in the popemobile through central park. 80,000 ticketholders will line the route then the pope will celebrate mass at madison square garden. >> given the crowds and world leaders that will be here, security measures for the papal visit are unprecedent. barricades and higher than usual fences are in place around papal venues. the nypd tweeted out this picture of commissioner bratton at st. patrick's cathedral. jim hoffer is in long island city queens with more on the security concerns not just on land but the water, too. >> reporter: we focused a lot on security at central park, st. patrick's but this building behind me, the united nations will host the pope, the

president and nearly every major world leader. that building press its own security challenge, mainlily the east river. no building in the world will have more security in the days ahead than the united nations. barriers and concrete blocks will provide for trees like protection on the front side. on the back side, it's all east river. that is where the coast guard comes in. >> you are throwing everything at this thing? >> we take every chance of a threat seriously and we want to be ready for anything and everything. >> reporter: the coast guard will have the fleet of rapid deployment boats patrolling the east river and the heavily armed boats will force security zones that will restrict commercial and recreational boat traffic on the river from 35th up to 59th street. at times that entire stretch of the river will be closed especially friday morning when the pope addresses the general assembly and again on monday when the president does the same. violate one of these zones and

5:00 p.m. we will carry many of his events live while he is here on tv and online. you can keep up with the pope during his visit, his schedule with the road closures are posted on our special pope section at abc7ny. we turn to other news of the day. breaking news that we have been following you. we told you about this. train service, number 4 train service in the bronx disrupted after a truck hit an overpass. we got shannon sohn live in newscopter 7 over the scene right now. shannon? >> diana, you can see this tractor trailer completely wedged under the elevated subway tracks that run on jerome avenue just south of east 213th street. we are hearing this happened about 4:30 this afternoon. tractor trailer even caught fire. first they are going to have to figure out though get them out of here, second if there is any structural damage to the tracks above. what this means for your service, only the 4 line runs here.

it is almost at the end of the line. they had to suspend at burnside. it affects 7 stops up to the end of line at woodlawn. the mta is recommending that you take the bus service, even the bx 10, 28 or 32 to get around this. but it does not look like this will be any better in time for the rest of the evening commute. reporting live over the bronx, shannon sohn, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you, san no. another big -- shannon. another big story, yogi berra being remembered for what he did on the baseball field but his colorful and generous life off the field. the marquee at yankee stadium honoring him. mayor de blasio honored all flags in the city to fly at half staff today and tomorrow in yogi's honor. he died yesterday at his home in new jersey. he was 90 years old. sports anchor rob powers is here with more on a life well lived. >> reporter: he was so much more than a baseball player. you would be hard-pressed to find anybody that hasn't heard

he died at the age of 90. he was what he was. he was that guy all the time, that loveable guy, that guy who will be oh, so missed. lawrence peter, yogi berra, one of baseball's most be loved people but one of the best players to play the game. 15 times an all star. holder of 7 world series records. >> playing 17 years with the yankees, 14 world series, won ten of them. >> reporter: the most memorable moment of one of baseball's most memorable games, yogi jumping into the arms of don larson after the perfect game in the '56 season. opponents knew him as a fears competitor when the guy was on the line. >> he is clutch in baseball. done a tremendous job. >> reporter: the colorful about baseball and life, yogisms.

>> come to the fork in the road and take it. >> reporter: turned him into an american icon. the man with the 8th grade education that wounded up being quoted by a president. as a manager, he is one of select few to win pennants in the american and national leagues. >> let's welcome home number 8, yogi berra number 8. >> reporter: yogi berra dead at the age of 90. he made his major league debut september 22, 1946. he died yesterday on september 22nd, 69 years to the day as his debut. as yogi said, some things are too coincidental to be could incidents. anthony johnson at the yogi berra museum gathering reaction. >> reporter: it has been an emotional day. you can see the statue across the street.

take pictures and leave flowers and talk about yogi berra. i have seen a number of people shedding tears. a lot of people are smiling as they share their stories. here on the campus, he is a man that won't be forgotten. the yogi berra museum and learning center is a place to pay contribute to the i don't think key icon. parents made it their mission to bring their children here to pay respect, show honor and celebrate great character. >> amazing to be able to bring them here and teach them about not only how many accomplishments he had but how great of a family man and a father he was. >> reporter: the museum is a treasure trove of highlights in the great career of yogi berra. from photos and baseball cards collectibles of all sorts. it's a place to reflect on a life well lived. >> he was such a respectful man. he gave respect.

he got it back as well. he was such a kind gentleman and also funny. he would make you laugh. >> he was a constant presence on the campus of montclair state university. he celebrated his 90th birthday here even though he was in a wheelchair, he was the hit of the show and around campus his presence will be missed. >> the fact that he lived in town and had an affinity and enjoyed this community was great to have him on campus. >> reporter: the tributes are rolling in here at montclair state and from everyone he knew and touched. in his hometown of st. louis, missouri, where he grew up in a hard working italian neighborhood, his niece still resides in yogi's home. >> he was a legend. wonderful person, wonderful brother to my mother. my mother adored him. she was his number 1 fan and i know everybody loves uncle yogi. he lived a wonderful, wonderful

the catholic church has a new faith to -- st. tonight. junipero serra canonization. the service is still underway right now. tattoo artists and new york lawmakers are calling for a change. new legislation is set to make a change at the end of the year to change the way tattoo artists dispense the ink. long island reporter kristin thorne is in centereach. kristin? >> reporter: sade, we are at deliver's tat -- cliff's tattoos. he explained the new ink is harder to get in the skin. so you can only imagine what that means. the legislation was introduced several years ago after a hepatitis outbreak in rockland county. tattoo artists know how to deal with the bottles of ink. they are trained to know how not to cross contaminate it.

they say what happened in rockland county was those getting tattoos in garages. >> we have a client in the chair. we explain this is your ink. this is your tablet. we dispense it in there. >> reporter: beginning december 12th, tattoo artists in new york state have to use these single use packets of ink. they say they are more expensive, lower quality and harder to get in the skin. >> a lot of us have taken thousands of dollars invested in our business to get the right inks and colors and the ones we like to work with. i will have to essentially throw it all out. >> reporter: bridget started this petition on change.org to get legislators to change the language of the law. it had more than 46,000 signatures.

artists can pour ink into ink caps that are disposable containers. senator boil says the current law is overregulation. >> as typical with albany, we overshot. we didn't listen to the people most affected by the legislation. >> reporter: governor cuomo signed it into law in august saying it is an important step toward preventing the spread of infectious diseases and holding accountable those that don't take the proper precautions. but tattoo owners say more expensive ink is higher prices to customers. >> i'm afraid to see my clientele leave my shop for a less costly option in new jersey. >> reporter: yeah, tattoo artists are concerned that people will once again, because of higher prices, go into people's garages and homes where there are zero regulations. kristin thorne, channel 7

weekend. temperatures will be in the low 70s and maybe, maybe we get rain from the system coming in over the weekend. below 80 except for newark. they got a last minute reading of 80. they will be the one to take the title today. they get 80. everybody else just shy of that. to the evening hours, temperatures are eastbound see to take -- easy to take. skies are pleasant. out and about enjoying the evening outdoors, great night restaurant. meanwhile, we look at this system down to the south. this is a low pressure system coming up the coast. we have high pressure in control. these two systems will be coming together. as they merge over the coming days, we will win out with sunny warm weather tomorrow and see the clouds creeping in as we get into the weekend. now, futurecast shows that, yeah, a few clouds come in late in the afternoon tomorrow. then friday it is becoming more overcast as we get into 4:00, 5:00 hour and right through 10:00, 11:00 at night we have

we continue to monitor pope francis speaking in washington, d.c. more on his visit and the local preparations coming up. volkswagen's chief executive resigned taking responsibility that the automaker built and sold cars. vw admits it rigged the software on 11 million diesel cars to cheat during emission testing. the stock was up after the announcement but lower than before the story broke. the office of personal management says it under estimated the number of finger

we are back this half hour with breaking news. a tractor trailer is wedged underneath an elevated subway track on the 4 lines in the bronx and it's causing major service disfunctions. >> -- disruptions. >> marcus solis just arrived. >> reporter: you can see the truck here. it's already hooked up to a tow truck. that is a sign of progress. you can see how wedged it is under the elevated tracks on jerome avenue. up top you see a little bit of some smoke damage. it appears that the cab of the truck or the trailer portion struck an electrical cable under the subway station and that is what sparked a small fire. the fire is out. now the concern is to get the truck out of here. this is the scene from newscopter 7 above.

solis, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. a whirlwind first day in the united states for pope francis who made his way across washington, d.c. attending several events. he is at the national shrain of the immaculate conception. >> he attended a prayer service with 450 clergy members at saint matthews cathedral. he focused less on defending church teachings and more on compassion and mercy. he did he lied the crowds when the popemobile streets of d.c. take a look at the enthusiasm. the pope stopping to kiss babies and children along the way. >> he started at the white house where he supported president obama's efforts on climate change and address global poverty and inequality. some new york city catholic

schools will be closed in honor of the pope's visit. >> but today a lot of them in their classrooms had their eyes glued on pope washington. >> reporter: kemberly richardson was in the king bridge section. >> reporter: pope francis isn't going here. they aren't going to any official events but they are excited. one kid told me to know that the pope is just a few subway stops away. here outside of the school are these ribbons. the kids tied them on the fence. each child wrote a prayer on the ribbons. inside the school it's all pope all the time. >> reporter: a pep rally where students are way beyond excited. in less than 24 hours pope francis will be in their city. >> just to have that leader and that role model where i am, it's amazing. >> reporter: all 210 students

watched as the pope received a warm welcome at the white house. it's as if they were there celebrating, participating, closely following the ceremony. something these little ones have never seen before. >> cheerful. i thought they would be talking about something sole serious. he was happy. >> reporter: amanda, casey and justin admire the pope practicing what he teaches. >> he is all about helping out the poor. we can all do that in our own way. >> reporter: the kids started learning about pope francis on the first day of school. the principal approached have fun with it. you heard of flat stanley. here is flat francis. the kids showed me all of the places the cardboard pope has traveled. it's working. after seeing all of this-- >> one of the classes said he is real when he got out of the car. it's not just some fictional character out of star wars, something like that. he is real and they saw it for the first time.

>> reporter: they aren't going to any official events but they are paying contribute to the holy father hanging ribbons outside of their school on each a prayer for the pope. >> it goes beyond being catholic. even the noncatholic students we have here have a special affinity for the man because of his love. that's our motto at saint johns to love one another. >> reporter: one thing the kids learned is that he loved pizza. i asked them if they had a chance to meet him, talk to him and say one thing, they said they would ask him what toppings he likes. live in the bronx, kemberly richardson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> kids are so cute, thank you. for some children, they shared special moments with the pope. after leaching the white house, he greeted the crowds, security guards brought some kids over to meet the pope. sophia cruz was one of the lucky ones.

sculpture of an ascending dove that incorporates original material from the statue of liberty and the key from the home of elizabeth ann seton, the first native born american to become a saint. if you want to pick up perhaps a souvenir gift of the pope's visit to america there are plenty. we saw everything from pope francis key chains to baseball caps to t-shirts on sale in time's square. there are vatican flags to wave if you are attending any of the papal events and all of this papal paraphernalia has not been sanctioned by the catholic church. it is from entrepreneurs looking to cash in on pope mania. you can follow in at abc7ny and we posted the road closures and public transportation changes for you. turning to other news, to the drought situation and the watch in new jersey where residents in 12 counties are being asked to conserve water. new jersey toni yates has the story.

>> reporter: we didn't have many rain washouts this summer, good when you talk about enjoying the outdoors, critical when you talk about our water supply. >> i have noticed. i mean, the grass is noticeably broken and it has been patches of dry, you know, goes trees and grass and i have noticed that a lot. >> reporter: we have seen reservoirs at record low levels. some called for voluntary restrictions on outdoor water use. >> my lawn was a little dry and burnt. not too bad. it was drier than normal. >> reporter: the department of environmental protection issued a drought watch for the northeast, central and northern coastal regions. they need us to voluntarily conserve water during the dry spell. >> conditions have dried out. reservoir levels are falling at face fast rates. soil moisture is low.

>> reporter: here is what they are asking us to do. don't overwater lawns. don't water at all during the hottest times of the day. repair the leaky faucets and pipes. turn off the faucet when you brush your teeth. have a full load for the dishwasher and washing machines before you run them. you wouldn't be surprised that they are calling for voluntary water restrictions. >> that sounds reasonable. at least it's not california. >> reporter: reservoirs, groundwater supplies and streams are at stress point levels, lower than the usual end of summer lows that they are used to. >> we need to rely on the coming six months to fill up the groundwater and the reservoirs to get us ready for next summer. if we don't do that the next 4 to 6 months we will have greater concerns come spring. >> reporter: that's right. everyone in the state, even people that don't live in the drought watch counties are

we are following more breaking news. this is in queens. eight people were taken to the hospital after an accident involving a bus. eyewitness news reporter jim dolan just arrived on the scene. he is live with the breaking details. what can you tell us. >> let me set this up for you. we are at woodhaven boulevard

you see the bus transporting the special needs adult. look at the car that plowed into the back of that bus and how mangled that vehicle is. take a look at video shot from newscopter 7 just a short while ago. these are people being special needs adults being taken off the bus by the fire department, ems. they are -- none of those injuries is considered life threatening. several people on the bus were injured. also the driver of that car obviously also hurt. he slammed into the back of that bus. but none of the injuries is considered life threatening. again, a bus filled with special needs adults slammed into here on woodhaven boulevard. traffic is still very slow around the scene. they are trying to get it straightened out. first they have an investigation that they have to do to find out what happened here. reporting live from glendale queens, jim dolan, channel 7

eyewitness news. >> thank you, jim. two recent incidents in which the nypd crossed jurisdictional lines into westchester county are under scrutiny. last week new york city police raided a home in mount vernon searching for a suspect. one of the residents says she was thrown to the ground and her home was searched. records indicated that the suspect had been associated with that address. residents deny that. tonight mount vernon city council is demanding answers. >> our police force are the defenders of our residents. i don't care who, what other police department it is, they must confer and i am demanding that they confer with our local police department before they invited our residents. >> this wasn't the first time. several weeks ago an innocent bystander was shot and killed by a stray bullet fired by an nypd officer during an undercover operation in mount vernon that went bad.

there. the circulation is getting well organized. we have high pressure system to the north. it's the battle of the two weather makers. tomorrow beautiful winds out again. sunny and warmer, 82 the expected high. once we get into the weekend, starting on friday afternoon into early saturday, these two pressure system and their circumstance can you los angeles will start to collide providing breeze -- collide and much of it stays to the south. philadelphia is in jeopardy of getting showers for a portion of the date on friday. probably late afternoon. you can see how close the system is getting here as we get into the afternoon and evening hours. there is some uncertainty on the track this system will have as it pushes more moisture in. it's not traveling in a straight line. instead, it's increasing in the momentum and energy over time. we will watch that carefully for you. tomorrow highs across the area, adding a few degrees, comfortable, upper 70s to low

80s. easy to take for this time of year. 70s at the shore. cooler at the coastal locations as we welcome in a northeasterly wind. as that happens, there will be a transition at the waterfront locations. form friday, 76. mix of sun and clouds. that fairly comfortable forecast. temperatures do cool down to be the low 70s sunday. more clouds as well. mostly cloudy on sunday afternoon. that will be the risk for rain in new york city over the weekend. monday 76, mostly cloudy. tuesday 79 and then another warm dry stretch setting up. i say another warm dry stretch. sunday into monday is questionable. while we have not put rain in the forecast right now, that system does get close enough that we are still keeping an eye on it. if it does, we close the book on that monday and next week is looking good. >> thanks, amy. you have to be careful when you do reviews online. >> that's the message one woman

new at 5:00 a woman paying a hefty price for her scathing citism on yelp. this raises the question how far does freedom of speech go when it comes to online critiques. >> what did you put on yelp. >> i said don't do business with matt gardner of staten island. he is a con artist. he robes people for their money. he destroys their floors and he doesn't come back to you. that's all i said and that's not a crime. >> reporter: these are the words emily pinelli wrote on yelp that cost her a grand. >> obviously they felt it was okay. >> reporter: this stems from work that was done in february. these are before and after pictures of the living and dining room floors where she said he ruined them.
