>> lucy yang at kennedy airport with the developing story. >> there was an emergency landing and plane fire here at jfk airport tonight. it involved an aer lingus flight to ireland, a boeing 757 flight number 110. >> reporter: the plane took off from jfk at 7:15 tonight, flying in to the sunset as seen in these photos from one of the passengers. the plane was going to shannon, ireland. 15 minutes in to the flight we're told the pilot reported hydraulic failure, problems with the landing gear and flap. the plane returned to the airport for an emergency landing. officials report the plane came in faster than normal and that there were flames and smoke in the main landing gear compartment upon landing which were put out immediately. passengers were evacuated without incident. we have this exchange between the pilot and control tower. >> we've lost our hydraulic

system, one hydraulic system so we're going to have to return to kennedy not quite yet. we'd like you to inform kennedy, please, that we've lost hydraulic fluid. please stand by. >> reporter: we spoke to one passenger just a short while ago who told us how surreal the scene was and how calm and excellent the pilot was. >> it looked like a sci fi movie, the actual touchdown itself was pretty bumpy but not out of control. and considering, he did job. right away we could see 15 or 20 fire trucks right on the runway immediately ready to drive up and they started spraying us like almost immediately and while they were still spraying the plane, the pilot came out in to the cabin and made an announcement, explained what happened. he said if one of the hydraulic tanks had been linking,

hydraulic fluid, and it started as a slow leak and eventually drained to empty and that this was something they practice every six months in the simulator but this was the first time he had ever done this in a real situation. >> so clearly practice made all the difference here tonight. so far no reports of any injuries. there were 104 onboard. we're now waiting to learn when they will be flown to ireland and when their next flight will be. landing here tonight. we're live at jfk. lucy yang for channel 7 eyewitness news. >> a good ending indeed. we have breaking news to tell you about. two young sisters missing after a visit with their biological mom this weekend are now safe tonight. 3-year-old destiny mccoy and two-year-old ty were reported missing. investigators say the girls were dropped off for what was supposed to be a five-hour visit but were never brought back. they are now safe. new

information about a shocking discovery in the bronx about a newborn found dead in the middle of the courtyard in the bronx. how did she get there? heartbreaking story. >> a baby girl died here today, a newborn baby girl whose picture was never taken, who never got to wear a pretty dress a newborn baby girl who no one got to know, but whose violent death left this neighborhood in tears. >> reporter: neighbors looked on silent and stunned as word of the chilling story spread. who could do anything this coldly brutal? >> oh, just broke my heart. broke my heart. >> just crazy. it's really ridiculous. i can't believe somebody would throw their own baby out the window. >> reporter: the doors of the medical examiner's van shut and it drove away with the body of a newborn baby police

slowly pieced together the grizzly details of the baby's death. the infant was thrown out a 7 floor window, the umbilical cord still attached. >> to be honest, i've never seen something in my life. that was unhuman. people, i don't know what those people are thinking about. i don't know what kind of mother would do that. >> reporter: she was recoiled in mother when she saw the baby -- recoiled in fear when she saw the baby girl. >> how could you react? everybody would react the same thing. >> reporter: the child's mother was located and taken to a hospital. the man believed to be the hospital was taken to the 52nd precinct for questioning. >> i know him for over 10 years. he's a very good father. he comes from a good home. his parents are very good parents. it's not like he's always in the street. he's mostly home with his son. he baby sits his son

>> reporter: neighbors were heart broken over the death of a baby they never knew. >> it was crazy. just a bad turn of events. we're all still wondering what's going on. >> i'm hurting right now. i don't know how a person could do that. he's got to be sick in the mind. something is wrong with him upstairs. >> we want to stress that no one in connection with this case has yet been charged in connection with what happened. the mother is at the hospital under police guard but has not answered questions yet. the father, the person believed to be the father, was taken to the 52nd precinct but was later released. he's not believed to have been involved. jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> just tragic. also in the bronx tonight, police looking for the man who tried to grab a teenage girl off the street. cops say rahim bryce pulled up next to a 13-year-old yesterday afternoon

and tried to pull her in to his car. a passerby stepped told bryce to leave the girl alone. a second man got out of the car. he had a knife. the girl kicked bryce and he got away. residents say they're concerned. a new jersey high school football player who collapsed on the field died from internal bleeding. the medical examiner said 17-year-old murray's spleen ruptured after a hard hit. the quarterback walked off the field under his own power but was later rushed to the hospital where he died. >> the most frequent cause of an enlarged in someone who is young is a recent mono infection. a blown to an enlarged spleen can cause massive internal bleeding. >> it's not known if murray had mono. an enlarged spleen can drop below the ribcage and could be vulnerable. no evidence of head trauma or heart disease. his funeral is thursday. another outbreak of legionnaires' disease in new york city.

cases not tied to last summer's out break. these new cases are also in the bronx. seven patients, all them living, working, or visiting the morris park seck. are -- morris park section. are we in for another legionnaires' out break? aj ross. >> seven new cases with one common denominator. this morris park community. the health department learned of these cases all within the last week and they've since been aggressively testing all the cooling towers in this area hopefully trying to narrow down a source. >> quite concerned when i heard about it earlier today because i know it had been relegated to the south bronx. >> i thought it was under >> reporter: it's a term bronx residents have become all too familiar with and one that's haunted them for months. legionnaires' disease is back again but this time it's in morris park and just where the bacteria is coming from is a mystery. >> because we identify this as a cluster doesn't mean we know

what the cause is of these infections in these individuals but they are geographically linked. >> reporter: seven new cases have been identified in the last week according to the health department and no one case is the same. nun of -- none of the hospitalized individuals live or work in the same place, which has experts suspicious of an outdoor air source. >> i think that the city learned a lot as we all did from what happened in the summer, the south bronx and hopefully we're going to be able to contain so it does not reach the levels of outbreak. >> reporter: in the meantime, health officials are aggressively testing every cooling tower in the area and reassuring residents this cluster is completely unrelated to the outbreak in the south bronx earlier this summer. still people who live and work here understandably upset. hoping they'll get more answers soon. >> i know they're taking measures in terms of i guess the department, building with water

>> joaquin, tropical depression 11. the big takeaway with this storm, you're not going to like the track. the big takeaway is we've got a lot of rain coming this week. there's going to be wind and coastal flooding. we don't know the intensity or if there's a land fall. we have a tremendous amount of rain potential this week. we're down over eight inches for the year. would not be out of the question if by the weekend that entire deficit could be wiped out. that much rain. 73 degrees right now. south wind at 5. the pressure is on the fall. high today shy of 80. running 8 degrees above average and we have one more day where we can do that, tomorrow near 80. fair amount of cloud cover. there are a couple spotty showers by day. but it's a soaking rain later at night. probably really kicks in around this time tomorrow night. then it's rainy the remainder of the week in to the weekend and we have to track tropical storm walk. numbers again were around 80 in islip. upper 70s in newark. hudson valley comfortable, muggy. 72, ridgewood. these numbers aren't

going to move very much. there's going to be patchy fog by morning and looks like it will be fairly muggy. just an isolated shower early and a popup shower during the day. rumble of thunder not out of the question. we make a run at 80. later tomorrow night the rain gets heavy. already we've got a couple sprinkles around. no big deal there. high pressure offshore. big wind flow coming off the ocean. here comes a cold front from the great lakes. you can see how it's drawing moisture toward the northeast. this is something we haven't seen in so long, tapping the gulf of mexico and the atlantic. winds at 40 miles per hour. southwest movement right now at 5 miles per hour. that's going to get drawn up the coast. looks like tropical storm status staying off the east. the idea of eastern virginia to southeastern new england in play here for tropical storm impacts. heavy rains, gusty winds, coastal beach erosion. if you
