mid-atlantic than the northeast. meanwhile, we look at cloudy skies. dramatic sky. turning cooler, 69. cold front has gone through. coastal flood advisory has been posted. that will start thursday into friday and it's minor coastal flooding thursday then more moderate coastal flooding for the entire area, especially the shore after several days of an on shore wind wind gusts could exceed 40 miles per hour over the weekend, 50 miles per hour closer to atlantic city. good soaking overnight helped the september rainfall totals. that heavy rain has moved north. the cold front that has moved through is stalling offshore. it's going to drag up more moisture from the south. that is our friday rainfall. the moisture offshore comes back on the coast. it will be focused on the coast. that is later thursday into the day on friday.

after that we focus on joaquin and the possible impact. this storm is wobbling near the bahamas. no change in intensity from the 5:00 advisory. still a big window of movement. still could go out to see. remote chance of that. more likely a track to the carolinas. we are in the window of the track but our forecast shows most likely the mid-atlantic or carolina coast. it's impacting with coastal flooding and bands of rain but the worst to the south. steadier rain returns tomorrow night especially on the coast. be concerned about coastal flooding and on shore winds and erosion and we will have more in the seven-day forecast in a few minutes. >> see you in a few minutes. as lee said, there remains so many variables with tracking joaquin. for folks near the shore of new jersey and long island, their antenna is high when they hear

hurricane and they are getting ready. anthony johnson has that part of the coverage in seaside heights for us. anthony? >> reporter: yeah, bill, you can see out here a beautiful afternoon. the sun is shining. you can see the waves pounding up against the jersey shore down in seaside heights. those waves are really pounding. i talked to a lot of people down here today. they do not want to see ya kin come into this area, but, of course, they are being reminded and told that this could be the biggest storm since sandy. >> we are much more prepared than we were the last time. i don't want to see the water come. >> reporter: many are keeping their fingers crossed hoping the storm surge is nothing like what they saw during superstorm sandy. that's why ed is cleaning out the garage to save valuables in case there is substantial flooding. >> i'm nervous. i got to say, we lifted the house but we replaced the

>> reporter: the lake across the street from ann's house is being pumped out and the water is being distributed into the ocean about 100 yards away. the town has been repairing since word went out about the possibility of joaquin heading our way. many of these actions are the results of hard lesson learned from sandy and there are still serious concerns. >> what we are concerned about mostly is flooding and power outages. if you mix a lot of rain with high winds, you will have trees come down and take down power lines. >> reporter: some 20 miles south in see seaside heights officials are telling residents if an evacuation warning goes out, don't waste time leaving. they are putting people on alert tonight with reverse 911 calls. >> this is what we are asking you to do. get cars off the street. make sure that everything is buckled down. if you have umbrellas open, anything that could blow away, secure it. >> reporter: and many towns on

the jersey shore are already saying that they will go over their preparation plans tonight. they are going to start talking to officials, getting the emergency operations in order. now, along the jersey shore, you see dunes like this one, anywhere from 8 to 10 feet high. they are built to protect against beach erosion. that's the latest live. anthony johnson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. folks on the shore of long island are also making storm preparations. some people in lido beach in nassau county say they barely refinished rebuilding after superstorm sandy. the memory of the high water is understandably is unforgettable. some are reassured by the new dunes built since sandy. >> a little more compliment that we won't have a direct hit the way we did with everything floating away because of the dune. we didn't have the extensive dunn structure. >> now they do. the new dunes stretching through long beach.

long beach has a new and stronger boardwalk with a metal wave wall that sits below it. of course, lee continues to track the storm friday as well as the path of joaquin, the hurricane. you can get the latest any time by downloading the free accutrack weather alert app. we turn to the other news of the night, one of the children injured in the horrific crash in the bronx is home from the hospital and just talked to eyewitness news. a livery car slammed into five people this morning. eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson is in the fordham section of the bronx with the little boy's story. kem? >> reporter: this 10-year old is doing pretty good considering. a few minutes ago i spoke to the 4th grader. he is cut, bruised, limping, he is sore but lucky to be alive. he tells me he doesn't remember much about the accident. the front bumper of this livery car actually hit him, pushed

him forward. he was one of five hit this morning on east kingsbridge road. kids were heading to school this morning. a 33-year-old woman is one of the victims. she was pinned under the car. her drawer was trapped. that little girl is in critical condition at the hospital. that woman's 5-year-old son was hit. he is in stable condition along with a 5th victim and 11-year- old boy. as for him, take a listen to what he had to say. >> what do you remember from this morning, sweetie? >> i remember when the car was over when he came and throwed me. i don't remember anything more. >> reporter: did you black out, like go unconscious? you don't remember anything? >> i like asleep. >> reporter: you were like sleeping? >> yeah. when you woke up, what did you

>> it was my grandmother that woke me. then help med help -- helped me get up and the ambulance came. >> reporter: and the ambulance took him to the hospital. he was treated and released late this afternoon. we are now learning much more about the driver of that delivery car. 57-year-old balo dealo. his tlc license has been suspended pending the outcome of the situation. he claims he lost control. at this hour no charges. we will stay on top of this and have much more for you later on eyewitness news. live in the fordham section of the bronx, kemberly richardson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> kim, thank you. the first death in the latest legionnaires outbreak in new york city. the bronx a kind of ground zero for the disease. 13 confirmed cases. cooling towers testing positive. ores towers that were cleaned but apparently not tested. so, what is going on.

all this hang in the morris park section. marcus solis is there. >> reporter: bill, the city points out that there are hundreds of cases of legionnaires each year and that this cluster is smaller than the outbreak over the summer limited to the 10461 zip code. with the new cases and another fatality, some are wondering what is going on in the bronx. >> this was not expected. this is the last thing i expected to hear. >> reporter: councilman james vaca after hearing about the legionnaires. >> we had this happen twice in the two to three months. we need explanations. >> reporter: new figures released by the health department shows the number of cases is 13. there is one fatality. the number of cooling towers that have tested positive is up to 15 at 10 separate locations including a high school and three hospitals. some locations had multiple towers test positive. it is limited to the morris

park area where the mayor and health commissioner met with seniors reminding residents that this cluster is smaller than the outbreak in the south bronx. >> lieu what is happening in the emergency rooms in the bronx we don't see increased activity around. those are hopeful signs. >> the new cases are all people who we went back through our records, talked to them about where they live, where they worked and then attributed them to this cluster because we found a link with the morris park neighborhood. information the seniors say was reassuring. >> the fact that it wasn't contagious and that we didn't need to be so alarmed and the fact that there wasn't any cases in the last nine days. >> i'm on the look out to make sure that i don't get the symptoms. if i do, i will go right to the hospital. >> that is a point the city wants to stress over and over

a heart bleaking scene in -- heart-breaking scene in new jersey at a wake for evan murray who died after collapsing on the football field friday. murray, 17 years old, decide from massive internal bleeding after his spleen ruptured. here is eyewitness news reporter darla miles. >> reporter: this is a day the color of the football jerseys don't matter. >> i don't think there is anybody in there that isn't taking it very hard. it's a terrible tragedy.

uniform at the wake for evan murray at faith discovery church in new jersey. the number 18. >> when you walk inside there is a -- waiting online there is a basket with ribbons that are offered to you. >> reporter: the number 18. that was evans number. the start quarterback from warren hills regional high school was wearing it friday night when he took a hard hit to the abdomen rupturing his spleen. >> i wanted to be here. i may come back tonight. he was a football player. i played at warren hills. >> reporter: one thing you hear over and over again is how evan murray was such a good guy. inside none of that is being discussed. in fact it's hard for anyone to say anything with such a tremendous sense of loss. >> emotional inside. a lot of people in there. >> murray's teammates wore blue shirts and black ties. a few came early but told that

attending the wake. that's the why some say evan would have wanted it. >> good to be a blue streak. you have this family wherever you go. >> reporter: darla miles, channel 7 eyewitness news. we have new video into the eyewitness news room. a frightening side on upper west side of manhattan. a big rig leaving a construction site and falling through a sidewalk on 65th street. it happened about 5:00 tonight. witnesses say thy heard a loud boom when high tide concrete gave way. it was obviously unable to support the weight of the truck. no injuries were record. amtrak finally putting the brakes on people bringing too much heavy on the trains. by the way, away for the nation's train company to make money. the $20 charge applies to passengers that bring too many or extra heavy very carry-on bags. people that check the luggage can avoid the fee. the fee is about space and safety on trains and not about money. >> we are completely against it. >> doesn't surprise me at all.

five days out, we are talking computer models. you tweed something out. >> i saw a comparison of computer models with sandy five days out. the majority of them, 95% have the storm way offshore and never hitting land. it gives you an idea why the models are trying to converge on the carolinas and mid- atlantic and that's where we are starting to lean our focus on a little more, there is so much that can happen the next five days. we have a lot of bounce in the camera.

wind out of the northeast 10 to 20. 69 the high after midnight around 80. warmest september on record. the totals coming into today, 2 inches below average. made up an an much and a third of that. there are the sunrise and sunset times. cool in milford and andover. all of a sudden you need the fall jacket. 70 belmar. we won't see 70s for a while. winds gusting out of the northeast 20 miles per hour. wind is something we will get used to. right now out of the north. coming days northeast and east piling water on the coastline. mainly cloudy overnight with a sprinkle here and there. during the afternoon hours, city south and east, lighter rains developing but no flooding rains. heavier rain friday as low pressure develops on the front and rides up. see this rain offshore here, that will back in on the area. it will be focused on the coastline and the northwest suburbs spared for the most part friday. they get a little rain but not

could see, an inch or two of rain. the heaviest likely to switch west on saturday. that is not related to joaquin. this is a separate storm and more of a nor'easter type feel with gusty winds, raw, rainy and minor coastal flooding that could become moderate. this is joaquin that may show an eye later tonight as it it's wobbling. you can see the reds circling around the center. that is the sign of a healthy hurricane. winds 85 miles per hour. here is the key time period. about 24 hours from no it is expected to make a -- from now it is expected to make a turn. there is a reliable computer model that suppresses it to the south and goes out to sea. we can't take that off the table. a lot of concentration on it coming north and heading to the

the track was adjusted to chesapeake bay. we would be favoring this part of the cone toward the carolinas and mid-atlantic at this time. it could be a category 2 hurricane as it approaches the east coast. look at the computer models and how they are focused on the carolinas here. five days out, long time to go. breezy and cooler tomorrow. heavier rain friday on the coast. north and west suburbs you may not get a lot of rain the next 48 hours. cooler and damp tonight. 55. tomorrow 62. a bit of rain in the afternoon, especially south and east. tomorrow periods of rain are heavier later into friday. friday is a nor'easter type feel, minor coastal flooding. in between rain bands saturday and then joaquin's impact sunday which if it stays well to the south, coastal flooding, bands of rain, still a
